Science U2 Reflection

I learned about how our body systems cooperate together when you’re sick. When we learned about cells and human body systems, it helped me understand what happens inside our bodies when we get sick. I learned that germs like bacteria and viruses enter the body and affect our cells. The immune system works to fight these germs by using white blood cells, which are specialized cells. Other systems, such as the circulatory system, help by transporting these cells throughout the body. Cells work together to form tissues, tissues form organs, and organs work together in systems to protect us. This shows that the body is a system made up of many smaller subsystems, all working together to keep us healthy. If one system does not work properly, it can affect the whole body.

The dissections were the most impactful for me because I learn best by seeing and touching real objects. Being able to observe the heart and lungs helped me understand how organs actually look and function together. Modeling activities also helped me because building a cell made it easier to remember the parts and their functions. As a hands-on and visual learner, these activities helped me understand body systems much better than only reading or watching videos.

If I could improve one aspect of my learning, it would be using a final checklist before submitting assignments. Sometimes I forget small details like labels, explanations, or checking the rubric carefully. Using a checklist would help me make sure everything is complete and meets the requirements. This would improve the quality of my work and help me achieve an L3 or higher more consistently.

DT

In this unit, I learned how to do 3D modeling and I 3D modeled parts of an RC car. Although the 3D parts didn’t come out, I could’ve done a lot better because my measurement settings weren’t centimeters, but inches instead. So, the measurements were off. Next time, I should change the measurements first.

CLOCK

In our clock unit, we were given a client to make a clock for. After that, we spent some time talking to them, asking them what they wanted and how they wanted it to look. After that, we built it after sketching it, and after that, we showed and gave them the clock, and seeked approval from them.

Soccer Reflection Thing

In this unit, we learned how to play soccer. We did this by doing drills to help us dribble, shoot and pass. What helped was how I got helpful comments from my peers and teachers. I am proud that I was able to pass the ball well. I want to improve on how active I am in-game.

P.E. Swimming Post

In this unit, we learned how to to tread water. This unit was mainly about autistic swimming. We also learned how to cooperate with others to make a routine and many new things useful in swimming.

I believe I did well doing the presentation and using all of the moves in it. We also did well on collaboration. We did well on practicing all the moves.

I think we need to improve on working together as sometimes we got distracted. We also need to do better with timing because we weren’t as synchronized as we could’ve been.

Math Unit 1 Reflection

In this unit, we learned how to find proportional relationships in graphs. I understood how to find the constant or proportionality with k = y/x. I learned the formula for the constant of proportionality this unit. I think it was interesting how graphs and tables can connect and become this whole idea. I had some trouble identifying x and y though.

Social Studies Unit 1: Media Presentation

In this unit, we learned how media can persuade and change people’s perspectives of something. After that, we tried to make our own media and do a presentation on it. We used words with connotations and tried to make our audience think one way and not the other.

Some feedback that I got and used were how I turned down the volume of my music, as suggested in the practice round, or how I spoke more confidently in the graded round, as suggested by my peers. Not only that, but I also added more transitions to make the visuals more engaging.

Something I’m proud of this unit is how I used a lot of peer feedback to improve my presentation. Something that I want to work on from this unit is how I didn’t really practice beforehand, making it hard for me to figure out what to say.

Bias

Bias is when you base something off of what you are told and your personal experiences, even thought they might not be right. It is used to convince someone to look a specific way by only showing one side of the story. Something good with everyone having the same perspective is how there will be less arguments. While something bad would be how no one would want to make change, and usually, change is good. This means that the world would never change how it is and things that are unjust would stay the same.

Table Tennis

Our recent unit was on table tennis, or ping pong. I think that my table tennis has gotten better since last year, being able to rally and hit low shots a lot better. I have also improved on my serving, being able to hit multiple low serves consistently. Something that I might need to improve on is how I return serves, making me hit back with good force, greatly improving my returning skills.

SS Unit 5-How did geographical and cultural barriers influence the economy of the Silk Road?

What are we doing?

In this unit, we are doing a silk road simulation and trading away goods and getting other goods and beliefs. There are also disease cards that you have to try to trick others and give them the card.

What did we learn?

We are learning about the silk road and how barriers such as mountains or deserts influenced the economy of it. We learned that barriers would make goods cost more because of the risk. We also learned that physical goods like gold or silk weren’t the only type of goods traveling along the silk road. There were also beliefs and religions that went along.

What did you do good at?

I think I did well at not falling for tricks. Some people would give you disease cards by using a blind box method. They would let you pick a few cards out of a deck that would almost always be disease cards. But I didn’t fall for any of them because I traded with people I trusted and I always checked

What can you improve at?

I think I can do better at bartering and making the trades more in my favor. I can do this by convincing others that my goods were better or more important than another region’s goods. This way, they may trade me more than one card.

How can this help you achieve goals later in life?

This can help me achieve goals in life by making it so we can buy more things with less money. This can also help because it gives me a look to the past, to what led the world to become what it is today.

Norms of collaboration

The three norms of collaboration are pausing, paying attention to self and others, and putting ideas on the table.

I am the strongest at putting ideas on the table because I gave my team many ideas and used them to help us trade away disease cards.

I need to improve on pausing because I tried to get a lot of gold that many people didn’t have, and I tried to make them get me the gold faster.

During the Silk Road Economy unit, the learning activity I liked the most was the simulation because it helped me understand what goods others had to trade and offer, and helped me improve my bartering skills.
