Unit 2 Math Portfolio Thing

I understand how to use percentages is many ways. I can convert between percentages and decimals and I can model percentages on both a double number line and also a tape diagram. I also know how to calculate percent increases and decreases and how to calculate simple interest.

The new information I have is that I now have learned more about percentages. I learned more about models than I used to know. I practiced using percentages in math more and made my brain bigger.

The interesting things about the unit is how you can split numbers with percentages and it is a way to show fractions and decimals. It is interesting to see how percentages and these model things work.

The things that were tricky for me was sometimes doing modeling and stuff and showing my work but then I learned it and now it has become untricky.

Unit 1 ELA Media Project Summative

My template thing

Creative Media Part
Presentation

I chose to make a film for this project because the instructions had the most freedom to include gaming and I like to edit videos and film stuff.

Having choice of what I want to do compared to just having a traditional assignment helped me reach the standards of the summative. I could be more creative and include all of the things I had to and be able to reach the standards.

From the beginning of the unit to now, I have improved a lot. I have learned the meanings of connotations and denotations and learned a lot about history of media and different types of media and propaganda.

I am proud that I managed to create a good film and include all of the specifications of the film thing. I am proud that I tried my best to include things from the standards like words with strong connotations and using persuasive techniques like camera angles and choosing to show only some specific things.

Some challenges for me is that I had to do a long and complicated process of filming, making the props, recording audio, getting images, editing everything together, and then waiting 1 minute for it to export to MP4.

If I could redo the assignment, I would probably spend a longer time writing the script and filming everything. I could improve the script and images a bit more.

The advice I would give myself for the next unit is to participate in class and pay attention.

Social Studies Unit 1: Media Presentation

A screenshot from a thing in my film that helps persuade the viewer not to sleep but to play video games instead.

I received feedback about how I should speak louder, clearer, and with more confidence. I tried to incorporate it into the second video of the practices and also into my presentations.

I am proud of my short film I created about why gaming is better than anything productive or sleeping. I am proud that I created a persuasive script and used techniques like camera angles and big text to persuade the audience of my topic.

Something that I could keep working on is my connotations because in my presentations, I couldn’t really explain the connotations of the words I had selected like “love” or “never” for “I love gaming! I never want to stop!”.

Bias is when someone leans more to one side because of some reason. For example, if someone saw a fight happen but one person was his friend, he would be biased against the other person because he doesn’t want to get his friend to get in trouble.

A positive outcome of people having the same perspectives is that any kind of issue can easily be fixed because everyone thinks the same way. So if something is blue but some people want to change the color, they can all agree to change it to one color like green and not have any issues.

A negative outcome of people having the same perspectives is that there is nothing to challenge so if everyone wants to paint the blue thing green, someone else could have a different perspective and want to paint it yellow. This could solve problems like if a group of people are making a system to stop robbers in houses, everyone would think that the robber will try to do one thing to get in to the house but if they would think differently then they can think that the robber can try many different ways to get in and secure everywhere.

My STAR Reading Test Portfolio Thing With Reading Goals

These are my 3 reading goals after seeing my STAR reading test results. I think my results are pretty good and above the Grade 7 benchmark.

Goal #1: I want to read at least 10-15 books in the year on my Lexile reading level.

Goal #2: I want to learn at least 30 new words while reading this year.

Goal #3: I want to increase my growth to starting in the high thing or farther up on the typical thing.

CPR Thing

We are doing CPR and learning about how to save people who are deaded. The things that are working is that we learned CPR and used it on the test dummies that everyone calls Bob. The things that are not working is nothing because everything is working. The personal relevance is that I can help people that need CPR and be able to do it.

Art Portfolio

What are we doing?

We are creating artistic pieces of art. We are drawing with charcoal and printing stuff by cutting it on linoleum.

What are we learning?

We are learning how to do shades with charcoal and printing stuff.

What’s working?

I made charcoal drawings and prints.

What’s not working?

Nothing.

Personal Relevance.

Drawing random stuff for no reason.

Unit 3 – How And Why Has Democracy Changed Over Time

What are we doing?

We are researching our amendment to the US Constitution and/or our article in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations. I am researching the first amendment and article 19. This is freedom of expression.

What are we learning?

We are learning about our amendment and article. We are learning about the causes (reasons) that our amendment/article were created as well as the effects that our article/amendment had on society after it’s creation.

What’s working?

We have researched a lot about our topic and we have filled up entire pages of information on our article/amendment in our booklets. We have also made note cards to help us remember information during our end of unit oral examination.

What’s not working?

For some topics, like mine (freedom of expression), the resources did not contain very much information about our topic and could not answer all the questions asked about our topic in the booklets.

Personal Relevance

This can help me when I need to know about human rights like freedom of expression. It is important to know that the government can not censor your speech in public.

Areas of Active Learning

An area of active learning that I was the best at was always being honest and never cheating or plagiarizing and I am always a positive digital citizen because I always cite my sources and don’t use AI for projects and I never play games or send people messages in class. An area of active learning that I could work on is giving my best effort because sometimes I don’t really care about class and just want to go home and play video games.

Design Technology Portfolio Thing (3D Modeling)

Ideate

Prototype

I don’t have a test because I haven’t printed my project yet

Something I did well in 3D modeling was thinking of ways to make my design work with the 3D printer. Something I should work on is making my designs more complicated. Something I improved on was making stuff in TinkerCAD.

Design Technology Portfolio Thing (Laser Cutting)

Ideate

Prototype

Testing

One thing I could get better at is my nodes in Inkscape because it was hard to do nodes when I needed to make it more complicated with a logo, it was hard to make my awezome J logo. One thing I am good at is making it good because it looked very good so I am good at making it good. I can improve by getting better at making the node things.

Science Test Portfolio

In this project, we chose a creative way to share about how the population of an endangered species has changed over time. I chose to make a Canva website about the endangered bonobo species, linked here.

In this image, you can observe the classic bro scenario. One has a phone playing video games and another is watching him playing the video games.

We learned about endangered species population is decreasing over time and, in particular, how to analyze graphs related to population. The sentence starters we use to analyze graphs are:

  1. This graph shows the relationship between [the population of the animal] and [the year].
  2. According to the graph, [compare data from the graph (numbers)]
  3. This means [what is means]
  4. This is because [the cause]

My Example (On the website): 😀
