Apprenticeship Activities Reflection

Creative Learner: Engaging in creative activities like baking and dancing has significantly enriched my ability to express myself and think inventively. In baking, I experimented with various flavors, techniques, and presentations, allowing me to explore my artistic side while also developing practical skills in the kitchen. Each recipe became an opportunity to innovate, transforming basic ingredients into delightful creations. This process not only enhanced my culinary skills but also encouraged a mindset of experimentation and creativity. Similarly, dance provided me with a dynamic form of expression where I could convey emotions through movement. It challenged me to explore rhythm, coordination, and the art of storytelling through choreography. Reflecting on these experiences, I realize that they fostered my confidence in trying new things and stepping outside my comfort zone. Each activity contributed to my overall growth as a learner, highlighting the importance of creativity in personal development. The blend of structured techniques and spontaneous exploration in both baking and dance has taught me that creativity is not just about the end product but also about the journey of discovery and expression. These experiences have become an essential part of my identity, shaping how I approach challenges and opportunities in various aspects of life.

Critical Thinker: For critical thinker, I analyzed media messages which allowed me to explore into the complexities of how information is presented and perceived. By questioning the intentions behind various narratives, I gained a deeper understanding of the media’s influence on societal beliefs and behaviors. This critical lens has become essential in navigating the vast landscape of information available today. Additionally, participating in strategic games like Gomuku pushed me to anticipate my opponent’s moves and develop adaptable strategies. These games required me to think several steps ahead, enhancing my analytical skills. The Survival Game further tested my problem-solving abilities in real-time scenarios, where quick decisions and resource management were crucial for success. Reflecting on these experiences, I appreciate how they have equipped me with the tools to evaluate information critically and approach complex problems with confidence. This growth in critical thinking has not only improved my academic performance but also influenced my everyday decision-making processes, allowing me to engage more thoughtfully with the world around me.

Resilient: Setting personal goals and creating a vision board have played a pivotal role in cultivating my resilience. By visualizing my aspirations, I developed a clearer sense of purpose and motivation that guides my daily actions. The process of identifying specific goals allowed me to break down larger objectives into manageable steps, making them feel more attainable. Tracking my progress has been instrumental in celebrating small victories along the way, reinforcing my commitment to overcoming challenges. Reflecting on this journey, I realize that resilience is not solely about facing difficulties head-on; it also involves embracing growth and learning from setbacks. Each time I encountered an obstacle, I used it as an opportunity to reassess my strategies and adapt my approach. This iterative process has strengthened my resolve and taught me the importance of perseverance. Moreover, sharing my goals with others has provided additional support and accountability, further enhancing my resilience. I now understand that resilience is a dynamic quality that can be developed through consistent effort and reflection. This realization has empowered me to navigate life’s ups and downs with greater confidence and determination, ultimately shaping my character and outlook on challenges.

Skillful Communicator: Participating in activities that promote effective communication has substantially enhanced my ability to connect with others and convey my thoughts clearly. Creating instructional guides, such as teaching people how to use Snapchat, required me to distill complex information into simple, actionable steps. This process taught me the importance of clarity and organization in communication, ensuring that my audience could easily follow along. Crafting persuasive emails further refined my skills in articulating my ideas convincingly while considering the recipient’s perspective. This experience highlighted the nuances of effective communication, particularly the importance of empathy and understanding the audience’s needs. Additionally, exploring the dangers and limits of AI through projects like Celebrity AI expanded my awareness of the ethical considerations in digital communication. These experiences collectively emphasized that effective communication goes beyond mere words; it involves engaging with others, fostering understanding, and building relationships. Reflecting on my growth in this area, I appreciate how developing these skills has opened up opportunities for collaboration and meaningful dialogue. As I continue to refine my communication abilities, I recognize their vital role in both my personal and professional interactions, shaping the way I engage with the world around me.

Effective Collaborator: Engaging in activities that encourage collaboration has significantly enhanced my ability to work effectively with others. Developing a new fitness routine provided an excellent opportunity for teamwork, as I sought input and motivation from friends and peers. By sharing ideas and experiences, we collectively designed a regimen that catered to our individual goals while fostering a supportive community. This collaborative effort not only made the process more enjoyable but also helped us stay accountable to one another, creating a sense of camaraderie that enriched our fitness journey. Reflecting on this experience, I recognize that collaboration is essential for achieving common goals and drawing on the diverse strengths of each participant. Additionally, analyzing a cover version of a song with a group allowed us to explore different interpretations and perspectives on the original piece. This exercise encouraged open dialogue and critical thinking, as we discussed the artistic choices made by the artist and how they impacted the song’s message. Through these collaborative experiences, I learned the value of listening to others, embracing different viewpoints, and leveraging collective creativity. As I continue to engage in collaborative efforts, I appreciate how teamwork not only leads to better outcomes but also fosters a deeper connection with those around me.

Skillful Communicator – Task 15

AI’s voice-changing capabilities have advanced significantly, allowing for the realistic imitation of celebrity voices. This technology utilizes deep learning algorithms to analyze vocal patterns, intonations, and speech nuances, enabling it to generate convincing audio that mimics well-known personalities. Such powerful AI tools can be used in various applications, from entertainment and voiceovers to personalized content creation. However, this raises ethical considerations regarding consent and the potential for misuse, as the lines between original content and imitation blur. As AI continues to evolve, its impact on media and communication will likely grow, prompting discussions about authenticity and responsibility.

Skillful Communicator – Task 5

Reconsidering Homebase Check-Ins

Dear Mr Caskie,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my thoughts on the current homebase check-ins during our extended learning periods. While I understand the intention behind these check-ins, I believe that they may not be serving their intended purpose effectively.

Currently, the process of walking three floors to take attendance three times a week seems to be an inefficient use of our time. Many students feel that these check-ins lack meaningful engagement and do not contribute to our learning experience. Instead of utilizing this time for attendance, we could be focusing on our studies or engaging in productive activities that would better support our educational goals.

I propose that we reconsider the necessity of these homebase check-ins and explore alternative approaches that could enhance our learning environment. For instance, we could try a digital attendance system that allows students to check in from their current location IN THE SCHOOL.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I believe that by making this change, we can improve our overall learning experience and make better use of our valuable time.

Sincerely,
Emma Chen

I made a whole tray of cookies that had different candies and a number of different ingredients in it. A new idea that you could try is mysterious flavors and ask people to try.

Ingredients:

  • Flour
  • Vanilla
  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Different types of candies
  • Water
  • Egg
  • Salt

Critical Thinker – Task 4

The contrasting public reactions to Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi ad and Zappos ads show the importance of authenticity and sensitivity when portraying charity in the media. The Pepsi ad, which was meant to connect with social justice organizations, received widespread criticism for exaggerating important topics such as police brutality and systematic racism. By using a privileged celebrity as the face of activism, along with the statement that a soda might address and solve societal problems, came across as tone-deaf and exploitative. Zappos’ advertisements, on the other hand, emphasized genuine, tangible acts of kindness, such as random gifts or charitable partnerships, which were consistent, ensuring trust with their customers. Zappos promoted goodwill by avoiding controversial political or societal issues and in support of common sense principles of charity.

Resilient – Task 11 (1/09)

Over the past week, I had slept at 11pm every single day. Some obstacles that I had faced were the abundance of homework and studying sessions I had that prevented me to clear my schedule. I also struggled with procrastination which made it harder to finish everything before 11pm and get to bed on time. But when I did handle my time right and complete all my tasks and homework on schedule, 8 hours of sleep everyday provided me a clear and awake mind to school. I wouldn’t be half awake in classes and more often I would participate in discussions. Not only did this goal push me to get rid of my procrastination, but it also brightened up my mood every day when I have to get to school by 8am. By setting a schedule in my notes I cleared my crammed up list of to dos and was able to come to school awake and clear minded.

AI… ? (10/24)

Something that I would want to focus on for the next month is to be in the habit of verifying AI-generated information using multiple credible sources. To do so, I will take these three specific actions in the next month:

  1. Find sources that are verified and accurate with can support the info that AI had generated
  2. Check the date and author
  3. Gather multiple sources to make a final decision

To track progress in verifying AI-generated information, we can establish measurable indicators such as the number of credible sources identified, the percentage of sources with verified dates and authors, and more.
