Designing a Story Problem Reflection

My story was about a competition where human contestants have to sing for aliens that took over Earth, and if they fail to satisfy the aliens, they die. Whoever is the last one standing wins.

I am most proud of the story problem, since it was a unique situation that was fun for me to think of. I like the amount of creativity I used to imagine that scenario.

The hardest part of creating the piecewise function was the graph, since I had to redraw it a couple times and the title took a while to think of.

If I could revise one part of this project, I would improve the graph by adding labels that corresponded to the amount of people that died that day and the slope for each segment.

This project helped me understand how piecewise functions can be used to display real-life situations.

Identity and Health Relationships

The purpose of this project is to teach people the characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships. To conclude, unhealthy relationships don’t respect each other’s boundaries and often have mental and physical abuse.

I learned that healthy relationships include respecting each other’s boundaries and always asking for consent. For consent to be valid, the person has to be capacitated, you can’t use a threatening or harsh tone, and you can’t be forceful. I also learned the characteristics of unhealthy relationships, such as breaking promises, toxicity, and abuse.

Soccer Unit

When we started the soccer unit, I didn’t even know how to dribble let alone passing and shooting. Thanks to my teachers, I became average at the sport and did decently. I learned what offense and defense were as well.

Water Polo/Swimming

When we started the swimming unit, I wasn’t able to swim and tread in the water. However, as the unit progressed, I was able to do freestyle and tread for short period of time. I also learned how to play water polo and the different positions in the sport.

ELA Socratic Seminar Reflection

I picked this because it shows that I have a lot of room to improve in as a participant of a socratic seminar.

This shows that I lack the ability to communicate with others in an academic discussion.

I will improve by preparing more thoroughly and practicing with others.

Health Portfolio: Reflection on Learning

I used to think that mental health conditions were easy to treat and didn’t impact one’s mental health greatly. I thought that mental health meant how you were feeling mentally. Some misconceptions I had about anxiety was that “less stress would cure anxiety” and that “anxiety was just worrying too much”.

But now, I know that mental health conditions are a huge problem for many people and there are different types of each mental health condition. My perspective about people who have experienced mental health conditions has changed because I am now aware that having a condition doesn’t always look like a person in a dark, gray, scenic.

Semester 1 Active Learner Portfolio

My current goal is to not be nervous while presenting. I think that I’ve been gradually getting better at not fidgeting and using filler words.

I am most proud of my collaboration with others, since we all worked together effectively and got things done quickly.

My biggest challenge in this class is managing time, since sometimes I procrastinate with easier assignments before working on the more important ones.

I have demonstrated most qualities of an active learner. An area that I want to grow on next quarter is my ability to participate fully, since I don’t often answer questions and raise my hand.

Pomodoro App Analysis

Hypothesis on WOOP Goal Benefits

The Pomodoro app will help me achieve my wish of completing all my work early and not procrastinate on it by giving me a good method to quickly finish all my work.

3 Measurable Outcomes

  1. I want to be able to finish my work quickly by using the Pomodoro app.
  2. I want to be able to willingly use the Pomodoro app without being told to
  3. I want to be able to not procrastinate when completing work

WOOP Goal Image

Documentations

Day 1: Didn’t procrastinate as much

Day 2: Less stressed out about schoolwork since I completed all my work

Day 3: More willing to study

Day 4: Slept for longer than usual. Didn’t use for long since no time

Day 5: Got more work done than usual

Day 6: Tech use has gotten lower while completing work

Day 7: Attitude about using Pomodoro has improved significantly

Functionality

Core Features:

  1. Timer for work time
  2. Timer for break time

Features Used Most:

  1. Work Timer
  2. Break Timer

Features Used Least:

None

Comparison of the App’s Advertisement to Actual Experience:

The preview of the app on the App Store included pictures of services that you needed to pay for on the actual app.

Limitations of the App:

Many of the features in the app such as the calendar feature required a premium subscription to use.

Usefulness

Evaluation of Hypothesis:

My hypothesis was correct because I procrastinated less on schoolwork and I was less stressed out.

Analyzation of Unintended Consequences:

The Pomodoro app compelled me to use it more often so that I’d earn more tomatoes. You can earn one tomato for each session you complete, and the tomatoes roll around on the home screen of the app, which was quite fun to play with.

Design

Analyze of Specific Design Elements:

The general aesthetic of the app is a kawaii fruit vibe, and it suits the tastes of many people, which could boost the amount of users on the app.

Evaluation of Business Model:

The Pomodoro app makes money with “Pomodoro Plus”, which is essentially a paid subscription where you can unlock features that were unavailable without it. Most of the time when you open the app, there is an ad that pops up, displaying the features of Pomodoro Plus.

ELA Unit 1 Reflection

For this unit, I went further in depth about the parts of speech, connotations vs. denotations, and sentence structures. I also learned that words with the same denotation (literal meaning) could have different connotations (emotional association). Words with different connotations could could impact the emotional feel that readers get when analyzing writings. I believe that the alien paragraph shows my growth the best so far because it displays my understanding of the English language through me teaching AI English.
