Math Unit 3 Proportionality & Percentages

Throughout this unit, I’ve did pretests, CFUs (Check For Understanding) and summative assessments. Comparing those pretests and CFUs to my summative assessment, I have grown a lot. I have understand the concept of calculating percentage in various ways, for example percent equations, percent change and more.

What new information do you have?

I’ve learned how to calculate different percent equations in simple ways like converting words into symbols makes it a lot easier to do. I’ve also learned how to calculate percent change, interests, using double number line to show work, discount, tax and tip.

What is interesting about this unit?

I found calculating discount, tip and tax interesting because in the past, while my mom and I went shopping, some places would say 8% discount. Before I learned percentages, I didn’t understand what it means. But after this unit, I’ve understand what prices are after discount, tip and tax.

What was tricky for you?

I found labeling the double number line tricky. It felt confusing because it was really hard for me to remember all the ways to use the double number line for 3 kinds of percent equation. But, I managed to remember them and be able to do them.

Social Studies Unit 2: Visual Presentation

In this unit, we were supposed to make a visual presentation about how topic to show/teach the audience what we learned. After making the visual presentation, we have to present in front of the class then to parents. As you can see, I have chose to do a board game as my visual presentation because in my opinion board games is a good way to teach the audience about something while its also fun. I learn best when activities are fun and not just informations shooting at you, then taking simple notes. Though sometimes I like to take notes, making it easy to remember things when just looking at simple words.

One thing I did well was to make my board game look okay and organized. I’ve colored the blocks with repeated patterns of colors so it doesn’t look plain and boring. I putted enough detail to make my board game be bold.

One thing I can still improve on is to manage my time wisely in class because I got easily distracted with exploring other peoples projects and chatting about what their next step was. I did that, as a result I had to take my board game and had to finish it during the weekends. So, I hope I don’t do the same thing next time and make my board game to the best of my abilities.

Social Studies Unit 2: Essay

In this unit, we wrote a essay about how technology have an impact on society. I chose to research about Helicopters. The process of me getting to write this essay was to research, fill in graphic organizers, follow standards to get a good grade and finally just to fix grammar errors.

One thing I’m proud was that I’ve focus during class, using class time wisely. I felt like because I was focused, I made less errors and followed the rubric to write my information about helicopters correctly also correctly formatted. I also made sure that my informations was correct and as detailed to my best ability.

One thing I can improve on was to make sure I don’t have repeating words. For example, in the essay I kept using the word “Helicopters” that one point I can work on. I can definitely improve more on being more concise/specific on my evidence. Also, I can include more details and informations on its significance or how it supports the claim on my reasoning part. Overall I think I did okay, I got all meetings but still can work on somethings to get to exceeding. Therefore, I would aim for exceeding on something like this assignment.

Language Arts Me as a Collaborator

Throughout this unit, I would rate myself based of my collaboration with others and sharing ideas in class as a approaching because me personally likes to listen to others instead of sharing my own ideas. Though I can work really well with certain people, share my ideas fully and listen to theirs. Another student would describe me during class as a quiet person but likes to laugh a lot. I like to socialize with people I’m comfortable with, I’m just really shy when it comes to your the only one speaking. For next semester, I would try to boost my confidence by giving myself the courage to speak up and share my ideas even if its not right, also to not try to feel embarrassed about myself.

Unit 2 Language Arts Summative’s Reflection

Throughout this unit, while comparing my formatives and summative, I have really improved from the formatives. I didn’t do well in those formatives, I realized what I needed to do, I did them and I have a significant improvement based on the grades I got. I’m really proud of how I work hard to improve, despite the grades I got on my formative. I mean formatives are for us to see where we are and where we can improve on to get a better grade on the final test. I’m also proud that I can have a clear understanding of all the round, dynamic, flat, and static characters. I found writing the CERER challenging especially the reasoning part, explaining how and why the evidence supports the claim. I have effectively used Ms. Devins feedback and continued to grow, understanding the concepts, following expectations by looking into the rubric. If I were to redo the CERER summative assessment, I would dig deeper into how and why the evidence supports the claim and understand what the evidence is actually trying to express.

For the upcoming unit, a advice I would give myself is that I should participate more in class. Sharing idea’s with peers not just being a good listener. I always give this same advice to myself but I wasn’t able to successfully achieve this goal. I feel like its just the lack of confidence so, I would continue to work on this. A goal I would set for myself instead of this is that working on reading everyday increasing my vocabularies.

These are my outline and my CERER summative assessment down below

PE Unit Reflection: Swimming

During this unit, I learned lots of artistic swimming techniques like floating on the surface and how big breaths helps us not sink into the water. Besides artistic swimming, we also practiced our strokes. I would say that I can swim all strokes at a advanced level, I just have to practice on my speed. Me and my friends have made a artistic routine, the process of collaborating with each other I’ve learned that collaboration is the key to succeed the whole routine. Because if one person isn’t collaborating for example not participating and paying enough attention, then it’ll be really hard to coordinate and we won’t finish in time, time management is also quite important. I feel like I can improve on time management because our routine was finished at the last second and we chose a song randomly in the locker rooms, speaking of which musicality is also important.

Math Unit 2: Proportionality and Scale Drawings

What do you understand about the topic?

I’ve understand the concept of calculating the scale factor and using different methods of showing if a question is proportional or not. I’ve almost know how s

What new information do you have?

I learned to determine whether or not something is proportional, the formulas for calculating the scale factor, the methods of calculating the missing length with the scale factor and learning new vocabularies like corresponding.

What is interesting about this unit?

I felt like finding the scale factor and using it to help find the length of a shape was interesting because it’s like solving a mystery with evidence given. Using the strategy/formula Ms. Ari has taught us, it made me feel like I’m really good at math (I’m actually not, it just felt like it).

What was tricky for you?

I found explaining my work with mathematical vocabularies tricky, explaining with clear and concise sentences to let the audience know what and why I’m doing this step is a bit confusing for me. Also, I feel like I can improve on paying more attention to the information given to solve the problem and checking my calculations, avoiding miscalculations.

Unit 2 Science Cell Blind Box

Essential Question and Standard Reflection

I chose to answer the essential question: How do our body systems work together when we play our favorite sport? Learning about the cell and body systems helped me by accurately answering the question. Also making it easier. Cells make up a subsystem and subsystems make up a body system. If we don’t have body systems in our body then our body won’t be able to do the things it can do when we have those body systems.

Learning Experiences

Throughout this unit, the way I like to learn the most is group work (VR or Cardboard Human body project, Microscope Observations, Connectors). I am those learner who likes to interact with other people, listen to other people’s ideas while also sharing my own. I just feel like group work can help me work on my socializing skills, at the same time learning different things and learning other people’s perspective on things. I also like modeling activities because me as myself learn better with physical things. Physical way of learning makes my understanding more clear and precise.

Improvements

For future learning, I can improve on my CER writing. I found reasoning challenging for me because I need to explain why and how the evidence supports the claim. I also have to work on checking the rubric expectations before submitting so then I can make sure I meet all standards in order to get a good grade.

ELA Unit 2 Formative #2 (CERER -Dystopian Characteristics)

What are you proud of?

I am proud of the improvements I’ve made since the last formative assessment. I had a clear understanding of the themes in “Harrison Bergeron”, especially on how it explores the alternative reality. I followed the rubric closely and aimed to reach at least a meeting level. I successfully met the meeting level on my claim, evidence, and conventions, I still need to work on my reasoning. Overall, I feel like my clam and evidence were well stated.

What were some challenges for you?

I found explaining how and why the evidence supports my claim challenging. I didn’t particularly follow the rubric requirements and I think thats why I got a 2 on my reasoning.

If you could redo the assessment, what changes would you make?

I would clearly summarize the evidence in a way that digs deeper into its significants. Also, defining how or why the evidence support the claim. I will pay closer attention to what the expectations are to get a exceeding or meeting. Next time, I will also read over what I wrote and make sure there are no errors. I done well at paying attention to the directions.

What will you do between now and the summative to ensure you meet standards

I would do the same thing as last time because I clearly noticed that it helps a lot and my grades are improving when I do those things (The thing I did was to go back to the slides and review what the teacher taught us in class 4 times a week and 30 mins to an hour each time). I would also make sure I meet all requirements by practicing to write more CERER and after each one, I would reflect on how I can continue to grow and what I did well. During the class period, I can improve on asking more questions about any confusions I have and participate more.

What advice would you give yourself?

I will advice myself to keep up the work and keep improving my grades by having to practice more at home. I would also advice myself that I should pay attention to what the expectations are to get a good grade, basically improving myself as a person.

Unit 2 Language Arts Formative #1

What are you proud of ?

I’m proud of trying the best in my ability, trying to get a good score and giving a lot of effort to this formative. Also, thinking deeply even if the way of my thinking isn’t quite right.

What were some challenges for you ?

During the process of writing the CER I wasn’t really clear on what mirrors and window are supposed to mean and what to include that the teacher is looking for instead of the claim, evidence, and reasoning. Finding the dynamic, static, round, and flat characters in a story is a little bit challenging but not so much. Understanding what the story is trying to tell the audience was also a challenge for me. Choosing the answer to the question in the front page was also difficult to understand.

If you could redo the assessment, what changes would you make ?

I would reread the story, determine what the author is trying to say. Having an clear understanding of what mirror and window means and to include the information that was expected to get a better grade.

What will you do between now and the next formative to ensure you meet standards?

I would review the slides after class and cover the questions I have during the class. To keep a consistency of reviewing the slides, I would review 4 times a week for 30 mins to 1 hour. Another strategy I would want to do is participate and asking questions during class. This can not just help me cover my questions, it can also improve my social and confidence skills.

What advice would you give yourself moving forward ?

Always do my best even if its not quite right. Read the question carefully. Pay more attention in class (take some notes?). Ask questions and improve on my social and confidence skills.
