Apprenticeship reflections:

Collaboration:

Task 9: In my first task, i created a new fitness routine. I decided to work on the bicep, shoulder, and more to prepare myself for the badminton tryouts. I wrote it down on canvas. From this task, i learnt the importance of planning, and writing thoughts down to create a comprehensive plan that can improve my life and make my path clearer.

Task 4: In my second task, i used paper to create a bridge (whose design i searched up online). I balanced a lot of pens on it and it was able to effectively hold enough 100g. Through this, i was able to learn the concept of research and implementation, as well as collaborating with jesse to find the fastest and most effective way to find results.

Creativity:

Task 17: in groups of 3, me patrick and jesse performed a skit on bullying. We explored the harms of bullying and how it can seriously affect the victim. We also talked about how to confront bullies and ensure that they learn their lesson to never bully again. In this task, I learnt how to effectively communicate with bullies and make sure that they learn their lesson.

Task 6: Me patrick and jesse discussed a possible new activity. In our new activity, each learning lab would vote for a sport/activity to play, and then during Friday EL, we would all meetup and play that sport. The goal was to spread collaboration and encourage bonds with everyone else in the learning lab. From this activity, I learnt how to organize wide spread activities.

Resilience:

Task 1: practice a new skill
Me and Jesse practiced basketball, as this is something that we had both done after school and something we both have a profound interest for. From this activity, i learnt how to transform a hobby into a interest that i can build and expand upon.

Task 6: mindfulness eating
I practiced mindfullness eating for a few days, eating healthy and exercising more as well. As a result of this, i felt healthier and more fulfilled. I will definitely do this more!

Communication:

Task 6: speech
I delivered a speech about badminton and why i thought it reflected my interests and was a very healthy sport that more people should participate it (i presented it to Ms. Harris). From this, i think i was able to generally reflect on what occurred and also improve my public speaking ability.

Task 3: Speed debate
Together, me jesse and patrick, chose to debate about the lifestyle choices of betas, sigmas, and alphas. Through this, i think i was able to learn how to effectively communicate with others, not just for the point of disagreeing, but also reaching a compromise and communicating well.

Task 8: perform a skit
Together, me jesse and patrick chose to debate about bullying and how to prevent it. We not only learnt the value of being nice and preventing bullying, but also how to effectively communicate a message through a short form video/skit.

Critical thinking:

Task 13: Wordplay
Through this task, i was able to learn the words that i really value and the words i truly cannot live without it. It helped me reflect on these aspects and i thought it was really valuable.

Task 3: ethical dilemmas
Through the trolley problem, i thought it really provoked my thought and was able to help me understand the value of life and the idea of tradeoffs. In the trolley problem, i generally thought in terms of utilitarianism – both the length and happiness of a life. It was overall a very thought provoking activity

Task 14: the survival game
Much like the first activity, this activity helped me learn what i truly value and was able to provide some much needed reflection.

Big Project

Extracurricular:

Resilience πŸ«›πŸ«›

Task 6 – mindfulness eating – 15 points

This week I ate mostly salad bars and sandwiches (with healthy fillings!). This made me think about eating healthy and living a healthy life. This also made me feel good about my choices. πŸ«›

The responsible use of AI πŸ€–

Commitment card – I will acheive my goal by the end of this school year

Clarification card – My goal to be independent connects to my current skills in 2 ways:

  1. it allows me to be a more independent thinker, a skill that is very applicable to all types of schoolwork
  2. It allows me to effectively use AI, improving my academic efficiency and speeding up my journey. This goal also allows me to use AI ethically and morally.

Goal card – I want to make an effort to do my own independent thinking before turning to AI

High School Experience πŸ“’πŸ“•πŸ“—

Middle school reflections: I wish I knew about how much harder high school was and the extra pressure since grades actually matter now. I wish I had curated better habits so I could be better prepared, and I wish I could have done some pre-learning/review so would understand the course material more.

Transdisciplinary Transfer Goals: I think my strength is that I can be decently effective at what I’m doing. I think a massive problem is procrastination and me just not wanting to do the work. I think if I overcome this, I could do much better. I would try to make a schedule and I think that will give me far more direction in my day.

High school excitement: I’m looking forward to the more opprutunites (such as clubs and teams), as well as the extra freedom that comes (extended learning, learning lab). However, I’m also nervous the far more rigorous course and extra pressure to perform on those courses.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.Β  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
