Unit 4 Science Reflection

Considering your exploration of ecosystems throughout the unit, what factors do you believe contribute to pleasant pond turning green? Discuss what you learned about the 4 matter cycles and energy transfer.Mention Photosynthesis’ role in these processes

Fertilizer runoff causes algal blooms which makes ponds turn green. I learned how the cycles connect to photosynthesis like for example in the carbon cycle animals breathe in air and breathe out carbon dioxide and that is later used in photosynthesis. In the hydrologic cycle when precipitation occurs it is collected into lakes and photosynthesis also needs water to happen. I also learned that when theres a good amount of fertilizer it helps the ponds but when theres too much it can kill all the marine life.

Energy transfer is when the primary consumer eats the producer and only gets 10% of its energy. Like for example the producer has 1000kCAL then the primary consumer will have 100kCAL and the secondary consumer will have 10kCAL and the tertiary consumer will have only 1kCAL.

Think back to your ecosystem in a bottle variable change (you changed 1 variable in your bottle by adding plants, blowing into the bottle, or adding fertilizer). Did the prediction you make come true?

Our prediction was that more algal blooms would grow and because of that the dissolved oxygen in the bottle would be lower. We also predicted that when the algae would die the decomposers would use up all the oxygen in the bottle which would kill all the animals there. Our prediction came true because now there are algal blooms in our bottle but all our fish and tadpole died before we could see if the algae would kill them.

If you could improve ONE aspect of your learning in this unit as a whole, what would it be and why? Provide a change that could enhance future learning experiences.

I think that i would improve in keeping my notes more organized and to make better use of my class time. If I would keep my notes more organized I could understand the topic and unit more and if I didn’t understand something I would be able to find it in my notes. And If I made better use of class time I could finish a lot of things on time and would not have to do it at home.

Personal Narrative essay

I heard a loud knock and jumped out of bed I slowly walked over to the door looking at my roommate who was still in bed sleeping. As I got closer to the door the knocking didn’t stop. When I opened the door outside we two teachers standing holding clipboards.”It is currently 6:30am you have to be downstairs at 7 for breakfast which means you have 30 minutes to get ready” one of the teachers said. “Okay” I replied my voice sounding tired from the lack of sleep the last few days. I closed the door and began walking to my suitcase but before i could get there I found myself climbing back to bed saying “Wake me up when you are ready,” or at least I thought I said it. My roommate saw me getting back into bed and replied with “5 more minutes” but i already fell asleep. *knock knock* I jumped out of bed and slowly began walking to the door as the light from the half opened blinds shot straight at my face. As i walked to the door i checked the clock it said 8:43am, my heart stopped for a second and then it began pounding. Before I even got to my door i said “Um Mihika its 8:43….”. I opened the door wondering if it was a teacher standing there wondering where we were but it was only a lady, she started talking to me in Chinese and when I asked her to speak english she just left. I closed the door and ran back while saying “Mihika!!! WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE AT BREAKFAST AN HOUR AND 43 MINUTES AGO”. “Oh no! Hurry!!” She replied.

Unit 5 Language Arts reflection

What are you proud of?

Im proud of memorizing my entire presentation and not forgetting something while Im presenting and for finishing all my presentation slides on time. Im also proud of finding good articles and doing good research.

What were some challenges for you?

A challenge at the start for me was memorizing my lines but after i practiced more i memorized them. Another challenge was the timing because when i practiced presenting it would show different times and when I did my final presentation it was 1 min under the time. A big challenge for me was finding a primary source for my topic because I couldn’t find any and all the ones I found were about something different.

How effectively did you use the feedback?

In the formative i got feedback like for example i didn’t sound confident and that I should practice more and I used it by improving on my summative.

If you could redo the summative assessment what changes would you make?

I would time my presentation while i was practicing more so i could see if it was under the limit and if it was I would add more things.

What advice would you give yourself for future presentations?

To practice as much as I can and if im missing something to improvise.

Drama Unit 6

Who am I?

I am Clove the female tribute from district 2 in the hunger games. I am 15 years old.

Where am I?

I am in the hunger games arena in the Cornucopia waiting to try and kill Katniss.

When is it?

Close to the end of the 74th hunger games the 6th last alive tribute.

What do I want?

I want to kill Katniss and win the Hunger Games.

Why do I want it?

Because where Im from its considered an honor to survive the Hunger Games and if I fail i will die.

How will i get it?

I have to kill everyone with my ally and be the last one alive.

P.E Basketball Unit

In this P.E unit we did basketball. We learned how to dribble the ball, how to shoot the ball and how to pass the ball correctly. We played in small groups against each other and each team would have 6 people and they would switch. I think I improved in shooting and passing the ball since in our groups we had a lot of space in the gym. However I think I need to improve in dribbling because sometimes when i dribble I loose the ball, and I think I need to improve in shooting because a lot of the times I miss.

Math Unit 4: Algebra and Geometry

In this unit we learned about algebra and geometry in algebra we learned about equations and inequalities, two sided equations and how to solve equations with a variable. In geometry we learned how to find the circumference and area of a circle, we learned how to find the surface area, area and volume for different shapes and we learned about complimentary, supplementary, adjacent, vertical and right angles. The thing I understand the most this unit is how to solve equations with variables and angles. Something new i learned this unit were the geometry circumference and area formulas for circles. An interesting thins about this unit was that we can use it in real life if we are designing something. One challenge for me this unit was finishing everything on time because I had to go during lunch to finish my mastery tickets.

Health Unit 2 Project Reflection

I used to think that the date of publishing of videos or articles didn’t matter. However, I learned that if the video was published a long time ago it could be outdated.

In this unit I learned how to figure out if a health claim is correct or incorrect. We learned this by using the CRAAP test which stands for Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy and Purpose.

Something that helped me most to become more health media literate was to use some parts of the CRAAP test. Currency which was what time was the video posted and Authority does the creator have medical expertise or do they site reliable sources.

Unit 4: Historical Fiction Book Club :Setting Summative

What are you proud of?

Im proud that during the Socratic seminar I asked open ended questions, provided textual evidence and I maintained eye contact contact and agreed to let my partner know that I was listening. And I am proud that I got a four and met all of the standards in the socratic seminar.

What do you want to improve on?

I want to improve on showing how the historical setting affects the characters in the claim and I want to improve on the reasoning by showing how it affected the characters and not just all the people that it happened to. And lastly I want to go back to the story more in my reasonings.

SLC Reflection

How did SLC go?

I think my SLC conference went well because I mostly remembered what I was going to say for each slide and I didn’t speak too fast.

Application for this year

I will try to talk at a good pace and remember my lines if we have presentations. And I will try to improve on the things that I showed in my SLC.

Key Takeaways

I learned that at the start of presentations I usually speak faster and then I start to speak slower.

Plans for next year

I think I will try to finish my presentation faster so I’m not working on it until the last day and I will practice more so I can memorize what i want to say.
