Design a Story Problem (Piecewise Function Project)

My story is about a group of turtles and how their population grew through 105 years. Just in 5 years, humans polluted the sea that the turtles live in and leading them to their deaths. This models the problem of pollution and how that effects the wild life around us. I am most proud of the fact that I was able to do the math because during this project I still had some difficulty using the point-slope for formula. I believe that creating the graph was the hardest part of the project because when we were first making the graph it looked completely fine, but then we found a problem and had to fix it. but after we fixed that problem a lot of other problems occured because of the graph being incorrect after the fix. If I could redo the assignment I would revise the final product many times because I have a habit making small mistakes. I would try to improve my habit because in a short term project it could be crucial to make a mistake. This project helped me understand better about how the piecewise function could be used in a real-world situation.

Design technology Unit 2: Robotics

We made 3 types of robots. One for the controller test, the block stacker, and lastly for the wall racer. Out of all the 3 we failed to do the wall runner because the code failed. For the controller test, we were able to run around the class room but we were very slow so we were around last place. While on the other hand, in block stacker we were able to get first place because we got the most points.

Also I improved in making the bot with special aspects such as the grabber to grab blocks and the engine that makes the wheel spin faster for more speed. During this unit, I improved in how to code the bot in order to make the robot move and enact actions.

Design Technology Unit 1: The Box

During this unit we were making a tissue box to improve hygiene. We were assigned different styles such as cubism, modernism, art deco, etc.
During this unit, something I learned is how to properly spray paint. I always thought that you were just supposed to hold the spray down the whole time. But actually you have to spray then let go and repeat the cycle over and over again unti l you have the color you want. Another thing I learned during this unit is how to use wood glue make it stick together. When using wood glue to connect the wooden pieces together you can’t do too much for thin parts because the wood glue might leak out and could ruin the whole project.

For the process, we first made a design in inkscape in order find out what we wanted to do for our design. We also got cards for what type of design we would get. I got art deco. After getting our style that we were going to do, we worked on making a first initial outline of the normal box. After that we made a 3D model of the tissue box on a website. Then we added that onto inkscape. We started to make the designs that we were going to use for the final design. Once we finished designing 3 different ideas for our boxes, I started to spray paint a 4mm plywood for my tissue box. It took a little while but one I finished, I lazer cut it.

Swimming/Water Polo Reflection

This unit we did Water polo, and to prepare for that we practiced swimming. During the swimming part of the unit, I think that I have improved in every form except butterfly because we didn’t do it. In water polo, I learned the basics but I still need to improve in treading so I could float without drowning. But while I improved a lot since the last time I swam, I think that considering everyone in the grade I am one of the slowest people. I could improve by asking for specific details on how to swim correctly for breaststroke.

Semester 1 Active Learner Portfolio Post (Science)

What are you most proud of in this class so far?

This year I am proud that I am capable of remembering the scientific words of science. During last year, I would probably forget the words and have to quickly search the words up and read the definition.

What has been the biggest challenge in this class?

For me I don’t have a thing that I have considered the “Biggest challenge” yet. This is because I think I am being able to follow along with the class without any problems.

How have you demonstrated the qualities of Active Learner – preparing effectively, participating fully, collaborating well, staying positive, and reflecting to improve? Are there any areas where you want to grow or improve next quarter?

I believe that I am doing a very good job in active learner because when we did the assignment when we had to show our parents our grades for active learner science, I almost got everything a meeting or higher. The only places I needed improvement is in studying and reflecting on comments made by teachers.

What is your current goal?

My goal for this year is to not to forget any assignments so I don’t have any overdue work unless there is nothing to send online.

What progress have you done to reach this goal?

I have failed this goal due to the fact that I had 1 or 2 overdue assignments because I either forgot or didn’t finish the work in time. While I have failed, I can still improve on this by learning on my mistakes make something that will help me remember and have more time to do the work in time.

Sticker Project

For my sticker project, the thing that I liked most about was that I was able to not perfectly but replicate the shapes on the demos graph. For me it was kind of the first time trying to create multiple shapes on a graph using multiple different and difficult equations. The thing that I wanted to change was to get a better topic that I would be more interested in. This i sbecause Pokemon was a past interest but right now I couldn’t think of a topic to create for a sticker project.

Unit 1 Reflection and Goal Setting

Select two questions from the Unit 1 Celebration of Learning that reflect your best thinking in this unit:

1.    I chose Question number 1 as evidence of my best thinking because I believe that I used a rather difficult use of reflection to show that I can properly use diagonal reflection.

2.    I chose Question number 2 as evidence of my best thinking because I properly described and explained why the answer was (1, 7).

Complete each of these sentences.

3.    Throughout this unit, I improved the most at dilating because this was a very new topic for me and I first got most of the dilation questions incorrect but now i got most of them correct.

4.    I feel that I still need to work on reading and comprehension skills because I got some questions because I didn’t read or understand the question properly.

5.    List three of your strengths so far this year.
· Dilation
· Rigid transformations
· Drawing Graphs

6.    List three things you want to improve on in the next unit.
· Don’t make mistakes because of misunderstanding the question
· Properly understand the topic
· Get at least a 3 and try to get a 4

 7.    Create an academic goal by completing the sentences and answering the questions.

In the next unit, I want to properly understand the subject and get a 4 for the unit test.

What might get in the way of this goal?
While I try to achieve this goal, other work such as extra curricular activities might be in the way and not be able to use all the time to use for studying. Other things that could be in my way for me to achieve this goal is that I could be just simply lazy and just tired that I can’t do work. So to put it simply it would be either the human limits or laziness. This is why I need to create a proper schedule for my studying my school work and others.

What can I do if I get stuck or need help?
If I don’t understand a topic or get stuck I can go ask my teacher or my parents which will probably be able to help with what I’m studying.

Unit 1: First Contact

The following is my final alien message.

During this unit I learnt how to teach an AI on many different parts of speech. The piece above is the evidence that I was successful in doing my work. While I was the one teaching I learnt something new. One example of this is connotation and denotation. Connotations are the implied or hidden meaning of one word, but a denotation is the words literal meaning. An example of denotation is if you say something got destroyed the denotation of destroyed is getting recked, but the connotation of destroyed could mean in immense danger.

PE – Table Tennis Reflection

During our table tennis unit in Grade 8 P.E., we learned several important skills that have helped improve our game. These skills included mastering the backhand and forehand strokes, as well as applying different types of spins to the ball, such as topspin and backspin. I practiced these skills regularly and felt that I became more confident in controlling the ball and placing my shots strategically. Compared to my classmates, I consider myself to be an average player, able to rally consistently but still working on accuracy and power. One area I want to focus on for improvement is learning to perform powerful smashes, which would help me finish points more effectively during matches.

Math Final Reflection

The game we created was Brainrot Acension (intentional mistake). The game we created was made in levels, the first level was a coin flip, the second was a find the tung tung tung tung tung sahur, the third game was ring toss, and the last game was spinner. My partners and I made the game by using cardboard for most things and printed paper for most of the design. During the making of our games, some people were uncooperative towards working once. We worked through that by forcing them to do what they needed to do. During the probability fair I think that the way we showed and telled the people who came to our game went well because they were all able to play appropriately. I think the quality of the games could be much better. The theoretical probability is 3 in 512 but the experimental probability was much higher than that because 500 people didn’t come and all of our prizes were gone.
