Unit 3 Identity and healthy relationships

I learned that not all relationships are very good. I used to think that all relationships were the same, and that they all went through the same procedures. But after watching the movie twilight, i learnt that the relationship between Bella and Edward was not like everyone elses. Through health class, i learnt that this was because Bella and Edward had a toxic relationship, including verbal abuse, the act of controlling, and mistreatment. I learnt that an relationship that looks like this is not a very healthy relationship, and that i should never be in one like this, or if i see someone with one like this, i should stop it.

I learnt that when you are mad, you should take deep breaths, that way, it will calm your brain. I did this after having health classes about it, and it really helped me.

The last thing i learnt was that it is ok to be different genders. Since some cultures or religions think of being gay as a sin, some people are taught that being gay is not ok. i learnt that people come in all different types, so its ok to be different.

Health Unit 2 Portfolio: Reflection on Learning

I used to think that mental health was just a thing that was about the health that is happening in your mind. I never thought it was really important to me, and i didn’t think much of it. I think it was because no one in my family had any mental health problems, and no one really acknowledged mental health, and we didn’t talk about what would happen if any of us had a mental health issue.

But now i think that mental health really impacts daily life and how we think. For example, if you have OCD, you will have difficulties doing normal life stuff like eating, reading, and sleeping. And i know now that all of these mental health issue are stigmatized like how anxiety is stigmatized to be shown as something bad that happens to the worst of people. Instead of thinking that mental health is something that is not very important, i now think that it is very important as it could happen to anyone, and knowing the symptoms and the causes is very important. A thing that most surprised me the most this unit was that drugs and alchohol are the causes of dopamine, causing addiction.

WOOP Goal

SLEEP TRACKER

Hypothesis: I expect of see that i have in fact fallen asleep faster for the first couple of days, that i became more energetic because of the increasing hours of sleep i got. I also want to be able to see that i have woken up faster in the morning, due to me sleeping earlier.

Apparently because I haven’t been getting a lot of sleep lately, I have been very mean in the mornings and I didn’t really stay in a very good mood for the rest of the day.

I would also be really tired in the middle of the day and I would be kind of stressed at every little thing that happened to me. This is mostly because of my use tech use that has been causing me to not be able to sleep. But I don’t think that my tech is a very big impact in my life so I will be using this app to try to sleep better.

The app that i am using is called Sleep tracker, and i will have been using it for a full week.

On the first day, i went to bed exceptionally early at 9 30pm. I turned on one of the recordings on the app, and it started playing an audio of a person narrating a sort of story. I don’t think that it really helped since i wasn’t sleeping until about 10 40, and i just lied there.

this app helps helps me sleep and it’s not been very useful these past days since it’s basically just music that comes people down, but I don’t think it is right for everyone.

I used the music feature most because it had a lot of different music styles but the one music that I used most was the “nighttime wood” because I found it very calming, even though it didn’t really help me sleep. I didn’t get to use some of the music and some of the sleeping tracking part because that was the part where I had to pay, but I didn’t.

The app said that there would be a lot of free things that I could use, including sleep tracking things, but I found out that it was fake and that you had to pay for the sleep tracking and some of the music didn’t work because you had to pay. Another thing that didn’t work was the recording of myself sleeping, because you had to pay for that too.

I don’t think my mood got any better and I don’t think I was more lively in the morning because the music didn’t really help me and instead, I got kind of distracted in the night.

I think that the music kind of helped me be more calm, but that raised a lot of questions in my brain so I wasn’t really able to sleep well. I guess that some of the sleep tracking thing worked because I managed to go to bed earlier. My hypothesis was wrong as I was not able to sleep earlier or better.

The app didn’t really encourage anything weird but I guess that it did ask me if I wanted to record myself sleeping and that was kind of not very normal. The app is effective if you use it once when you’re really tired because sometimes if you’re calm, you can really fall asleep.

This app would actually not be very good as a sleep helping app, but it might be helpful for people who need to be calm down sometimes because it really calmed me down too.

The app had several different music types so I think that that encourages users to use it more. The app makes money by having to receive payment for sleep tracking and for some music.

I think that the app creates more dependency because it’s not very accurate or useful, but for some people, it might be kind of addictive since it calms people down.

ELA

My spark was the impeachment of South Korea’s Ex president

This subject connects to politics, as it is about the president, and it also connects to economics, as it impacted the economy of the whole world.

This spark is important to me because Im South Korean, and it was all over the news. My parents were really concerned because of this matter, so i was concerned too. This was a very serious matter because the president was planning to murder people, and he was tryin to take over some of the world, so it was bad. I think that this is important to me because this ight have impacted my life greatly, and i remember thinking that i was very thankful that i wasn’t greatly impacted.

Branching Question:

How did Korea’s government respond to this problem

Why did the president’s wife get arrested?

Health Unit The Teenage Brain Reflection

This unit in health, we made a presentation on how the teenagers brain develops.

Learning about brain science helped me learn that since the teenager brain is not fully developed until the age of 25, we tend to act rashly or take dumb risks more. i think that sometimes, i get a rush of anger or adrenaline, i usually do something dumb or unexpected, and it almost alway leads to me feeling bad or i get in trouble.

The most suprising thing i learned about the teenage brain is that the teenage brain can make someone reckless so that they can crash a car. The more teenagers in the car, the more likely you will crash a car. I think this is because the teenage brain isn’t developed enough so they make the dangerous decisions.

Understanding the teenage brain might help parents and children communicate better. The parents will start to understand why their child is acting or speaking in a certain way. This will increase the communication between the child and the parents, making the get closer and more loving to each other.

i honestly think that meditating without a screen is the best strategy to manage stress. Without a screen, your mind will get more peaceful and you will have more time to think about yourself, not other people. I think that then, you can cleanse your brain of thing you don’t need, and the things that bother you, and you can make a good schedule for yourself and follow that. I also think that maybe mindful breathing can be useful since sometimes, when you get mad because of the stress, if you breathe in a rythmic pattern, it might help you feel calmer.

Reflection on Table Tennis

The first unit in PE was Table Tennis. At first, i felt as if i was ok in table tennis, and as if i wasn’t that bad. At the end, i think that i improved a lot but i still need to work on controlling how strong i hit the ball and to not smash the ball. I think that maybe if i had had a more positive wind set, i would have done better, but sometimes, in the middle, i would get kind of mad because i wasn’t playing so well, and i didn’t benefit from it.

Probability Fair

Our game was called pluck a duck, and it was basically, you pick up one dock and there’s a number under them and depending on what numbers on the duck, it chooses what level of prize you are getting.

We worked for three days, but we didn’t really get a lot of work done since our project was pretty straightforward. Some conflicts were when we were counting the ducks we didn’t count the right way so we ended up having more talk that we needed.

Surprisingly, a lot of people came to our game. I didn’t think that there would be that much people, but there was. My teammates and I handled the situations very well and there was always one person that was working on the game when some other people were out playing. I would actually maybe make the probability of getting the first prize higher because I don’t think anyone got the prizes and I would get more second and third prizes because we didn’t have enough in the middle so we had to go buy some

I think that the experimental probability might have been at least 20% because a lot of people got the second and third prize is that we ran out of of the prizes so I think it might have been more than 12.5%.

Documentary Film Festival

Me and my partner, Sophie Lee started off with research about the Korean War and what happened during that time. Then we started writing our essay and we had to include historic words, and we wrote about the two pages including citations. When we first started making the film, we didn’t really know the order of stuff that we needed to put for example we didn’t know if we need to put videos first or pictures first for us to make a better impression. So we just ended up putting pictures first. After we made the film as a draft, we edited a lot of it so it would basically look totally different from our draft.

Me and my partner worked very well together, as we had distributed work equally. We had one obstacle in our way though, when all the videos and pictures from our documentary got lost. We had to find them all over again, and that took quite a long time.

Looking Back at Our Last Unit and the Year

The abuse of power topic that I explored was the Rwandan genocide. I learned that research process of an abusive power topic takes a lot of time and effort to write.

I thought that there would be a lot of sources about the genocide, but I found out that there wasn’t a lot.

I practiced my presentation a lot when I got home every day I would read a little part of it. Since this was a little bit different from all the other presentations I did before, I tried my best to make it sound normal and like I practiced a lot.

It was challenging for me to memorize all my script because I had a lot of information but in the end, I didn’t really get to memorize everything and I improvised a lot.

At the start of the year, I couldn’t really write stories that had to be written by myself and I couldn’t really talk to other people about books. As we learnt about socratic seminars and writing stories, i realized that maybe i could improve in these topics. So, i tried my best to communicate with my group about our book, and i tried to write the best story i could think of, and even though they didn’t have a very good grade, i still tried my best.

The top 5 books i read during the year was Sunrise of the Reaping, Divergent, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, The Outsiders, The dead Poets society.

The outsiders, because it really shows how even if you go through hard times in life, if you have good friends and family, then you can get through anything.

It was challenging for me to read divergent because during the middle of the book, it got a little boring for me, and so i kind of skipped through it, but i eventually read it again later, only to find out that there was a good part hidden in it.
