Math Unit 3: Percentages

What do I understand?

  • I understand how to calculate tax and tip
  • I understand how to find the percentage difference between two fractions.

What new information do I have?

  • New formulas for finding percentage differences.

What is interesting about the unit?

One interesting thing about the unit was the ending project.

What was tricky for me?

One thing tricky for me was calculating commissions on tests.

Math Unit 2: Scale

  • What do I understand:
    • Scale factor and the formula to find it.
    • Using scale

What was interesting about the unit?

One interesting thing about the unit was learning about scale.

What was tricky for me?

One thing tricky for me in Unit 2 was figuring out scale factor.

Visual Presentation

The Visual Presentation was to support the speech we wrote, talking about our chosen technology. The Visual Presentation had to include what the technology was, the positive and negative impacts, and how the government solved the negative impacts. I chose to do a Roblox game format, as I really enjoy playing Roblox, and wanted to try something new.

One thing I did well was put short information that a viewer could read while I talked.

One thing I need to work on next time is my world-building, as it was quite plain and didn’t contribute significantly to the points I was making. I could also work on the pacing in the video, as it was too short.

Social Studies Unit 2: Essay

Before writing the essay, I first chose a Transportation technology, which was Horse carriages. I then started finding articles that talked about the impacts and history of Horse carriages. After I had a least one box full of information on each column, I then started using my information to write the paragraphs for each section. After I was done with the organizer, I moved all the text to the essay document and made some last edits.

One thing I did well with the essay was with the transitions, ending each paragraph with a line to relate to the next paragraph, so I could make the essay go smoothly.

One thing I need to work on is my time management, as I spent too much time on the essay organizer than on forming the actual essay.

Collaboration: LA

I work well with others at my table. I raise my hand routinely in class and can help put away the notebooks and folders. When I am asked to turn and talk with a partner, I have no issue discussing the topic. When I worked with a partner in Unit 2, I worked well and didn’t argue, adding all ideas and listening to my partner. When I worked with someone in Unit 1, I listened to my partner and checked in to see if we agreed on how we wanted it to look like. I would give myself a grade of Meeting. If a student were to describe my collaboration, I think they would say I am a good listener and suggest things. I don’t slack off.

Orchestra Chamber Music

In this unit we chose to either perform a piece, or arrange/make a piece. I chose to arrange a piece with Abigail, and we picked a song from EPIC: The Musical. The pieces name is There are Other Ways, and I made two sections, the vocals and the instruments. I did well on adjusting the number of sections, but I struggled on the vocals, as it required two chords. However, Ms. Ziegler helped me learn how to make them, and the rest of the piece went smoothly.

Design Technology: Clock Design

In this unit, we got a client(a teacher), and we had to design a clock that they liked and make it. I chose to design a clock as the logo of my client’s favorite hockey team, and finished changes and measurements on Inkscape. I struggled with spray painting, as the paint overlapped many times onto other colors, so I eventually used markers instead.

ELA Unit 2 Formative #2 (CERER-Dystopian Characteristics)

I am proud of my evidence, as I was able to find two direct quotes from “Harrison Bergeron” to support my argument. I am also proud of my claim, as it was direct but strong. I followed the rubric, but I struggled with the conventions, as I was unsure about the punctuation.

If I could redo the assessment, I would study the conventions more before the test, as I struggled in that area. I would also try to add more details and connect the evidence to the claim in my reasoning.

I will practice on my conventions and how I phrase my reasoning before the next assessment, as I fell short in these sections. I will review the slides on commas, parentheses, and where periods should be placed.

I would advise myself to practice more on subjects I am unsure of. I would also advise myself to go over my work twice to make sure my work matches the expectations.

Swimming Reflection

We practiced sculling, diving into the water, and learning some new skills, like the egg dive. At the end of the unit, we will be making a dance with our chosen team and choosing a song to perform to, using all the skills we have learned this unit. I could work on my oyster move, as I swallow water a lot of times when I try to use that move.

Formative #1-Unit 2

I’m proud of my ability to identify round and dynamic characters. For question 1, I was able to identify the round character successfully in the story. I am also able to find what kind of conflict is in the story by finding clues in question 2. Lastly, in questions 3,4, and 6, I can find evidence in the story to support my answer of whether the character is dynamic or not.

Some challenges I faced were that I got mixed up between two choices to support my answer that Amy is a round character in question 5. I also struggled to show how something is a mirror or a window for me.

If I could redo this assessment, I would double-check if I included why something was a mirror or a window. I would think carefully about the options in question 5 to figure out which answer was the correct one.

I will read books, and among them, I will write whether a character is round or flat, static or dynamic. This can help me work on identifying context clues.

I would advise myself to work on adding information to my CERs about windows and mirrors, so readers understand why it’s a window or mirror for me.
