Unit 4 Dystopian Fiction Reflection

What did I learn about Dystopian Fiction?

I learned about the characteristics of Dystopian fiction and I also learned how to give a good literature discussion. I learned how to validate others in a literature discussion, which can make other people feel included in this literature discussion.

How does Dystopian Fiction make me to think about real life?

It makes me think about real life by thinking the similarities between a totalitarianism community and real life. Also the differences, because in a totalitarianism community, it is very different from real life, since they get restricted access to things that we have today.

I enjoyed The Giver.

I enjoyed The Giver because it has many twists and unexpected moments that would slowly appear further out in the story. I also enjoyed The Giver because you would first think that the community is living in a normal and peaceful world. But, actually they are locked in a community, where everything is planned. Where no one can make your own choices, only the community can.

How have I improved my ability write academic paragraph?

I have improved by knowing how to write a good claim for an academic paragraph and add good examples to prove my claim. I also improved by knowing how to double check my work before submitting.

How am I better now interacting with others in a literature discussion?

I am better now because I know how to validate other people’s idea and also challenge others if they get something wrong, or I misunderstood. I also am better now by knowing how to give good examples for my topic, unlike having completely unrelated example to my topic.

PE Soccer Reflection

What did we learn?

I learned how to dribble properly and shoot with the right power and angle. I learned how to quickly stop the ball and how to pass the ball quickly anefficiently.

What helped?

I think the drills help me because I’ve never actually train soccer, but after I learned all the things, I feel like I’m really prepared for soccer matches.

What is something you are proud of?

I am proud of me knowing how to dribble properly and pass the ball without kicking the ball super hard just to pass. I’m also proud of my shooting skills, which I made a lot of goals in matches.

What is something you can work on?

I think I should get better at dribbling because sometimes I just charge into the player with a ball. The result is that person who was defending will steal my ball, so I would work on my dribbling skills.

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was expert witness
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because
  1. We can know how humans in the past have been developing
  1. This might be useful in the future if we know the past
  1. How the world was in the past
  1. The differences and similarities between the past and the present
  1. We can learn how Neolithic wo/men lived.
  1. They were resourceful, hunting for food, created clothes, tools, medicine from nature
  1. Started to grow crops
  1. Same as us

-conflict

-diseases

9. very innovative + resourceful

  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of making a good presentation for the mock trial and finding good and strong evidence to support my opinion
  1. I am proud of the work above because I put all my effort into this work and did a lot of research to help me get ready for the mock trial.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, which was having to make two slides as an expert witness, and I also had to do health problems. There were plenty of health problems that Ötzi had.
  1. I found the work above challenging because there were so many health problems that Otzi had which I didn’t have enough time to research.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because next time when there’s a problem, I can talk to my friends or teammates and solve the problem together.
  1. This is a photo of my work about
  1.

Bake Sale Reflection

What did I do?

We did baking sale for this math project. We had to convert the US system to metric system to use this information to bake food. We also had constraints which were ingredients can not be more than 10. My partner and I had to calculate the unit rate, unit cost, sell price and mark up in order to start selling the cookies.

What did I learn?

I learned how to calculate unit, cost, unit rate, and sell price. Also I now know how to convert the US System to the metric system. I also learned collaboration and how to work together to solve the problem.

What worked?

What worked was I worked my partner and we all worked together to solve the baking sale project problem.

What did not work?

What did not work was sometimes we get mistaken by each other, so we write the wrong answers. But we still figured out together, without arguing.

Personal Relevance

I enjoy this very much because it was really fun and exciting, also we get to work with friends. Which makes me and my friend get closer more, and also improve on collaboration and teamwork.

Swimming Reflection

What did we learn?

During this swimming unit, we learned how to snorkel and all the basic hand language when we are in the water.

What did I do well?

I did well on learning all the hand gestures and my swimming equipment check before I go into the water.

What did not work?

What did not work was sometimes I get distracted, so that leads to me not hearing the directions.

What worked?

What worked was me snorkeling because I knew the position for how I am supposed to snorkel.

Egg Car Reflection

What did I do?

We had to build a car that can safely go down the ramp and deliver the egg. The goal is not letting the egg fall, crack or your car rolling down the ramp.

What did I learn?

Newton’s first law is seen when the egg wants to keep on moving forward, but the walls around it stops it from moving forward. Also when the car hits the concrete block, the egg stops moving forward because of the concrete block. Newton’s third law is seen when the car hits the wall which is the action and the wall pushes back which is the reaction.

What worked?

We made walls around the egg and a roof that can close and open, so the wall and the roof can stop the egg from flying out. Another thing that worked was the tape on the wheels to reduce the speed, which can make the egg survive more likely.

What did not work?

What did not work was the roof because the roof was not stable and strong. After the cars goes down the ramp the roof opens and that lets the egg fall out.

Personal Relevance

I now know that our team should make a bigger crumple zone to have more chance for the egg to survive. Also, I think we should make a more stable and strong roof. The only reason we got DNF is because our roof wasn’t strong, so the egg fell.

Balloon Car Reflection

What did I do?

The Balloon Car was built using a balloon, straw, tray, tape, hot glue, and wheels. We used it to learn about newton’s 2nd law, Law of acceleration because we put more and more mass on the car and more mass equals to less distance the balloon car travels.

What did I learn?

Newtons 1st law says an object at rest will stay at rest and if the object is in motion it will stay in motion unless a outside force acts on it. We see this law in action with the Balloon Car when the air releases and keeps on blowing air out until there is no more air in the balloon.

Newtons 2nd law says force equals mass times acceleration. We see this law in action with the Balloon Car when the air releases and it keeps on accelerating then friction slowly stops it.

Newtons 3rd law says for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. We see this law in action with the Balloon Car when the action that is air releasing out, and reaction which is it pushes the Balloon Car forward

What worked?

The air releasing out making the distance travel far worked well because we put the right amount of air inside the balloon. We had to make it not too small, and not too big or else the balloon would explore

What did not work?

It was a struggle when the straw sometimes were loose, and that caused the balloon car to not go far. To solve this problem we put a lot of tape around it to make the straw stay there and not move.

Personal Relevance

The Balloon Car was like a real car in the world, when I released the air out and it went really far. I see Newton’s first law in real life when we drive a car and the engine is making the wheels spin. Learning Newton’s law is going to help me in the future because I would know how different things work.

I
My Canva Project

What was the task ? What you needed to do to be successful?

The task was finding a country and using Canva to show all the different cool stuff they have in that country. To become successful, I researched one specific thing and wrote it down with my own words.

What did you choose to research and why did you pick this country?

I chose france to research because I think France has a really cool culture and history.

Explain briefly what you mentioned in your project.

I mentioned about the gate when the soldiers would go through the gate as victory. And food because french food is amazing especially the bread like croissant.

What is the feedback the teacher gave you?

Good job Lucas. You researched about France and were able to reuse the vocabulary and the grammar in context to describe briefly the country. You also researched about some specific traits of that country. You could have written the date in French. It’s better to use Homme (men) and Femme (women) to mention the nationality.

What are you proud of? What are the areas of improvements?

I am proud of myself keep on getting better and better at french. Something I should work on is vocabulary words in french.

Art Reflection

Write about an artwork of your choice that you are proud of having made. When you write about it, share what the project is, how you made it, what materials you used, which methods you applied.

I am proud of my computer because I really put all my effort in my computer cardboard work. I used cardboard and I first found a big piece of cardboard. Then fold it in the middle to make it bendy, so I can close and open. I used hot glue gun and masking tape to stick and glue them together.
