Roller coaster L4 Lab and Model

What We Did

We started by completing an investigation to determine the relationship between potential energy and height. We also made a lab report explaining our process and how we made the rollercoaster. Additionally we took two encore periods to make the model. Something I thought that was really time consuming was the CER conclusion. lastly I collected data for my video so i could explain how I got my answers.

Math project Bake sale

What did we do ?

today we sold Creme Brulee in the bake sale and earned a whopping 1100 RMB in profit. During our sale we had customers that brought friends over, which over time attracted many customers.

What did we learn

During the math bake sale I learned that if you use cheaper ingredients the product tastes worse but can sell for more. So next time I will use cheaper ingredients instead of thoroughly expensive ingredients.

What worked

Something that worked in the sale was our price well most of the time people wanted to bargain down but we bargained our way up to 30 as usual. and made a profit of 25RMB We also sold our hot chocolate for a reasonable price of 10RMB and made a profit of 8 RMB.

What did not work

During this bake sale one thing that didn’t not work was the amount of products we had. This is because during the sale we had a lot of customers but not enough products for example we sold out on hot chocolate in 10 minutes and sold out on Creme Brûlèe in the 1st hour.

Personal relevance

This will help me in life because it will achieve my goals as being a entrepeneur this is because I love to bargain and sell things.

Science Egg Car Challenge

What Did I do?

During this challenge me partner and I worked on a challenge named the egg car challenge. In this challenge the criteria was the car had to be less than 16 cm long and 6 cm wide and couldn’t contain parachutes or airbags.

What Did i learn

During this challenge I learned many things for example i noticed that all 3 of newtons laws took place in this challenge. Newtons 1st law takes place while the car is not moving. Newtons 2nd law takes place when the car is speeding up/ accelerating. Lastly Newtons 3rd law takes place while the car hits the concrete block.

What Worked

During this challenge something that worked was the design I made. I used many things like paper straw and wheels to help the car move. Because of my design I passed the challenge and my egg survived! One last thing that worked was my partnership.

What did not work

If i had to do this challenge again something things i would change it how fast my car went. This is because if the speed is to fast then the egg could crash. over all I think my design was a success.

Personal relevance

During this challenge I learned that seatbelts are very useful in cars. just in case you ever get in a car crash you should ALWAYS wear a seatbelt. Although there are very safe crumple zones you should be careful.

Creative writing collection

What are we doing?

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning

Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers)

Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits)

Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)

Setting (the world that I create for my story)

What’s Working:

What story elements did you enjoy planning and writing? (Explain why you enjoyed them)

I enjoyed my story elements because they were very interesting.

What elements of my story are you proud of? (Explain why) I am proud of my plot because I find the mysterious old lady creepy.

How did you get the idea for your story?

The Best Line from My Story: (Include your favourite sentence or phrase from your story and then explain why you like it) Press 1 if you would like in room dining press 2 if you would like to eat at the hotel resturaunt. i like this sentence because it leads to my climax.

Areas for Growth:

What story elements were challenging to plan and write? (Explain why you enjoyed them) I enjoyed writing my plot because it was challenging to finally figure out what it would be about.

How did you deal with these challenges? I dealt with challenges by just writing things over and over again to make the parts sound better.

What is your least favourite part of the story? i dont have a least favorite part if my story, it is beautiful Why does it bother you? Doesn’t bother me.

Personal Relevance:

How can creative writing help you in real life (even if you’re not planning on becoming an author)? Being a creative writer can help when writing essays for school because it will be easy to think of things to write about.

Do you enjoy creative writing – would you possibly like to continue using your imagination to tell stories that matter to you? I enjoy creative writing and would love to continue doing this.

Balloon Car Reflection

What did I do

The balloon car was built using many things for example cardboard, strings, wheels and styrofoam. We used it to learn about newtons 2nd law. After making these cars we raced them and measured the distance they would travel.

What did I learn

During the balloon car challenge we learned what newtons first law was, second law, and third law. In this challenge Newtons first law was taking place while the car was at rest. Newtons second law takes place when the car was moving because of the acceleration. And lastly Newtons 3rd law took place hen we blew up the balloon and it traveled a long amount of distance.

What worked

Something that worked well was the distance my car traveled. A trick a learned while doing this challenge was not to fill our balloon up with a lot of air because it will not accelerate. This is because when the lower the air supply there is in the car the faster the car goes.

What did not work

Something that worked not as well as other things was our car traveling distance with weights on its back. This is because of Newtons 2nd law, the more force an object has the more force it takes to move. And in this situation the car has lots of mass so would need lots more force to push.

Personal relevance

This project will help me in life because it teaches me to persevere, and not to give up, this is because during the challenge, there were many times that our car broke down. But after all we would always end up fixing it to be back in shape. One last reason this will help me in life is because it taught me all 3 of Newtons law’s.

Proud project

This is your writing prompt: Write about an artwork of your choice that you are proud of having made. When you write about it, share what the project is, how you made it, what materials you used, which methods you applied. A project that I am very proud is my human head mask. This is because it was partially hard to make. My sculpture is made out of plaster, and was moulded from a body. I applied many methods, for example I made the surface rough and soft.

Progressing In Critical Thinking

What did I do?

I used my critical thinking skills to solve problems more efficiently, especially during challenges like building the strongest bridge to hold the most weight. In this challenge, I considered various designs and strategies to ensure the bridge remained stable and strong. This approach allowed me to explore multiple solutions and to how to make the strongest bridge.

What did I learn?

I learned that critical thinking means looking at information carefully and thinking about it before deciding what to believe. It helps us ask questions and find proof, so we don’t just accept everything we hear. Also, critical thinking lets us come up with new ideas and solutions by being open to different possibilities.

What Worked?

I thought critically when I problem solved to figure out the best ways to tackle challenges. During our critical thinking unit, I learned to break down problems into smaller parts, which helped me see different solutions. For example, when we built a bridge, I considered various designs to make it strong and stable. This process allowed me to choose the best approach and feel more confident in my problem-solving skills!

What did not Work?

I struggled at critical thinking because I felt a bit nervous about getting the right answer. This made me hesitate to share my ideas, even when I had some good ones. Instead of just exploring my thoughts, I was too focused on trying to be correct, which held me back a little.

Personal Relevance

Critical thinking will help me in my future life by making it easier to solve problems. I’ll be able to look at things from different sides and find the best answers. It will also help me make good choices in school and at work. Plus, being a critical thinker will help me share my ideas clearly, which is important for working with others and being a good leader.

Unit 1 Campaign for the Olympics Reflection

What did I work on?

During this unit some things that I was working on is my presentation, remembering my script, and my evidence. The hardest topic that I was learning was trying to remember my script although my other topics took extremely long time, I found that setting up my presentation was not that hard!

What did I Learn?

During this unit I learned many things, including the date of when the Olympic games started, why the Olympic games started and what city would be the best to host the Olympic games, which is London! Learning all these facts was not hard because they were just in all our SAS Databases.

What Worked?

Something that worked for me was speaking clearly and persuasively during my presentation my partner Dean also did a well job at presenting! 2 things worked Our partnership and our clear voices!

What Did Not Work?

During this unit, something that did not work as well as my other topics was finding the right criterion for London. As the due date for this presentation was coming up, I still had one criterion I had to fix. This made very nervous knowing that I might not get a great grade I had to go home and study to finally figure out what our last subtopic was going to be.

Personal Relevance

Some skills that are very important were having great collaborative skills and having a very loud and clear persuasive voice. I think this will help me in life by whatever job I have I will be able to work very well with others. After all, I have written, I think it’s ok to say that I did well on my presentation!

Analysing Character Traits

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:
  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
