I learned about dystopian fiction by writing academic paragraphs and discussing topics related to the book – The Giver.
What did I learn?
I have studied words in the Giver book. I have already wrote some academic paragraphs and used lots of transition words. I also made some discussions with my friends about some events in The Giver book.
What worked?
I’m very proud of myself because in this unit, we’ve learn lots of hard vocabulary words and I can easily use it to make some short stories and use it correctly. I’m also proud of learning all those hard words at home and I can make sentences with them.
What did not work?
In this unit, I have some problems in writing some academic paragraphs and I need to improve them. I choose to improve my academic paragraph writing by some more summaries and paragraph and reading some text book.
Personal relevance
This learning can improve my skill of writing and summarizing. I can also improve my skill of analyzing and my text understanding. When I grow up, I’m will be more faster in writing an academic paragraph and be more skillful at using those transition words.
This is my health comic. This comic is talking about two different boys doing at night. The first boy played his phone to 3 am and still didn’t stop and the next day he wakes up at 8:00, he felt very tired and he even sleep on class. The second boy slept at 9:00 until 8:00 without playing his phone in midnight and he felt very energetic. So I think I should put my phone and electronics in my room to make me a better sleep. If I think that I’m affect by the blue light, I will tell my mom, my Ayi, my dad, and my grandparents. I think the most harm for teens are the distraction and the blue light because these are connect to the grades of the teens so it’s very important. I can protect myself by putting the electronics away and keeping it muted. I can also tell my friends not to send too much messages and turn on the “do not disturb mode”. At last, I can tell my mom to turn on the time limit and if I use too much, I’ll tell my mom to ban the app. The biggest learning in this unit for me is that I learned so many disadvantages there is on a tini-tiny phone.
In this unit we created a roller coaster and wrote a lab report. We then take the data and include it in our conclusion. Our conclusion is a CER paragraph where the C is the claim; the E is the evidence (the data); and the R is the reason.
I tried how to serve bump and set and also I learned how to work together with my teammate and beat the other team.
What did I learned?
I learned how to do a underhand serve, a bump and a set.
What worked?
In this unit, when I am playing some games with my opponent, I almost hit the volleyball and almost hitting it to the ceiling.
What did not work?
In this unit, I played games with my teammates by it kind of worked bad. This is because, my teammate always want to do a set and this blocks the way to bump the ball. Also, my teammate is bad at setting it(not that kind of mean).
Personal Relevance
This unit help me learn how to collaborate with my teammates.
In this unit, we worked on Ötzi the Iceman. We made some observations, inferences and wonders. Also, we wrote a CER Paragraph rather Ötzi is murdered or not. We also studied about how to write some closed question and open questions.
What did I learned?
In this unit, we learned about questions about why should we care about the past? To answer the essential question: why should we care about the past, in my opinion, people care about the past because for scientists to learn about the past, they can study about the techniques before to make things in the world in the world before. Also, learning or studying about the past can show people their culture and what has happened before. This is important because if people didn’t study about the world before, they wouldn’t be able to know things in the past, and they wouldn’t know what had happened before.
What worked well?
In this unit, I’m very proud of myself because when it is the day of the trial, I can ask lots of questions to the witnesses. Also, I made a perfect opening statement and kept a big space for my lawyer’s team to ask our witnesses open questions. I’m also proud of myself when we wrote the CER paragraph first draft. On that day, I noticed I got a three and not a lot of others got a three in that one, so I am very proud of myself because I got a three in my first draft.
What did not work?
Although I made a perfect opening statement on the trial, I can still improve my performance. When I was asking the questions to the witnesses, I had a few words that confused me a little. Next time, I should practice more of the questions and search up the words that are harder or even change them.
Personal Relevance
In this trial, I practiced my communication skills and collaboration skills a lot. I give a speech with a clear and loud voice to make the witnesses hear (I’m a cross-examining lawyer). I also practiced how to give a speech voice in the trial. I also give some space for my teammates to ask our lawyer questions. This made me a good cross-examining lawyer for my team.
In this unit, we need to protect the egg in the egg car from breaking, using the Newton’s 1st and 3rd law.
What did I learn?
I learned Newton’s 1st and 3rd law and using them to create protection to them to make the egg not break or fall out of the car. I made a crumple zone and a seat belt for it not to go forward and fly out of the car.
What worked?
When the teacher drop the car from the rail I notice that it can go instead of sliding down the road and get disqualified. I’m also proud of only a tiny break is on the egg and it didn’t spill lots of liquid on the car
What did not work?
In the egg car challenge, my car didn’t protect the egg perfectly and breaks a little. I can improve that maybe by adding some more crunching pieces of paper as a airbag.
Personal Relevance
I think the best way to protect the egg, is to pick the egg that is strong enough and be at the last of the line because if people find out a strong egg, it will be use again and again. In this challenge, most people passed because there’s egg that didn’t break for like more than ten cars. That might help me with next time the stratagy of winning.
In this unit, we make Oreo cupcakes and we did a lot of calculations behind it.
What did we learn?
We learned using unit rates, percentage, and we also tried cooking. We use unit rates to calculate how much do each cake cost. We use percentage to calculate decimals and stuff.
What worked?
The part I’m proud of is that is that when we are selling the cupcakes, we sold all and made a lot of profits. Also I am proud of people saying that these cakes are amazing. That really made me happy and excited.
What did not work?
At first, we didn’t sell a lot of cupcakes, so I’m kind of unhappy because the stand beside me have already sold some food. However when people goes more and more, we can sell more and more. So it work well after.
Personal Relevance
This learning help me with work fast on calculating and cooking. This made me good at cooking and calculating.
I learned how to dribble the soccer ball, the rules in soccer, and also I learned how to collaborate with my team.
What helped?
Before the matches, I learned how to dribble the ball around the cone and that helped me in the games I played later. I can dribble the ball more easier.
What is something you are proud of?
When I was playing some matches, I was very helpful for my teammates and I steal others’ ball easily and passes it to my teammate.
What is something you can work on?
I also should be working on running faster since sometimes I was too slow and my ball get stolen by other and I have no chance to pass the ball.
The balloon Car was built using a balloon, some wheels, some pieces of tape, a piece of straw, and a styrofoam for holding all the things. We used it to learn about Newton’s 3rd law since the car is using the knowledge of action and reaction. Also we use this car to learn about Newton’s 2nd and 1st law because we tried to put weights on the car too. At last we also notice that even the balloon has a lack of air when it is driving, it still goes forward a little, that means there are inertia on the cart that makes the car go forward even if there’s no air in the balloon.
What did I learn?
I learned the first three laws which is the first, second, and the third law of Newton’s. Newton’s first law says that an object stays at rest tends to stay at rest and an object that moves tends to stay moving unless an unbalanced force is applied to the object. We see this law in action with the Balloon Car when the balloon has no air and the car keep moving also we can see Newton’s first law when the car is in rest. Newton’s second law says that the more something’s mass is, the more force it will take to move a lighter thing. We see this law in action with the Balloon car when we add some weights on the cart. We observed the balloon car’s distance it can drive when we add different amounts of weight and the same amount of force or air blown in the balloon. Newton’s 3rd law says, “every action has an equal opposite reaction.” We see this law in action with the balloon car when we blow air in the car and the car will go the opposite way of the way the air was blown.
What worked?
The Balloon car worked well because we make the car successfully and the car can easily to drive. We tries to make the car fast and light. We had to take off some of the tape and put tape again to make the car lighter.
What did not work?
It was struggle that our cart changes direction when it was driving. To solve this problem, me and my partner worked on changing the direction of the balloon. This did not work so we change the wheels a little bit and it goes well now.
Personal relevance
This balloon cart was like airplane in real life, when I was on the plane. The airplanes main force is from the thing on the side of the wing. This pushes the plane forward and make it to fly
