In this unit, we practiced badminton, and specifically trajectory (where you place the shot; drop or long) and speed (fast or slow) with the correct hand placement.
During our badminton unit, I learned how important it is to control where the shuttlecock goes, not just how hard I can hit it. I got pretty good at hitting high, deep clears from the back of the court to push my opponent back and give myself time. I also feel confident keeping up the speed during fast rallies. The hardest part for me was the drop shot. My drops often didn’t fall steeply enough over the net, so they were too easy for my opponent to reach.
To get better, I really need to work on changing the trajectory and speed of my shots on purpose. Right now, I use a lot of the same powerful swing. I have to practice using a softer touch and a shorter swing to make my drop shots more effective. My goal is to get better at mixing up my high, fast clears with slow, sneaky drops to keep my opponent guessing.
