Art Exhibition

Installation art

In this piece my group worked together to create a nostalgic bedroom with a tech free space. There are different textures in the bedroom with a CD on the floor as a entrance mat, some crochet, cardboard, and different fabrics.

Designing a Painting

In this painting I incorporated embroidering with flowers and a painted background. The different colors and flowers can mea different emotions and feelings.

Exploring Cultures

With this piece my group decided to take traditional patterns and prints from Italy, Mexico, and Brazil and incorporate them into one pattern. For brazil we took the geometrical shapes on the inside of the pattern. From Italy we took the lemon that is placed in the center of the pattern. Lastly from Mexico we took the outside zig zags. For the colors we each picked a color that represents our country, some colors overlapped which gave us a common color between the three counties.

Woop goal #2

Since I have moved staying connected with my friends from home has been one of the best things. especially because i am coming home so soon it was important for me too talk to my friends so we could keep each other updated on everything. My goal was to make sure i keep a stable relationship with all of those girl. My plan to so talk to all of my friends back home. My wellness compass goal is “I am satisfied with the amount of time I spend with the important people in my life” my wish is to text or call each of my closest friends. I did this not only with my friends but also my family back home because they are also very important people in my life. My outcome is that I will maintain a strong relationship with all of the important people in my life because they mean so much to me. The obstacle i had to face was first, the time difference, Not only is the time difference 13 hour time difference, but also a lot of my friends have after school activities, or are at school.

This is the scanned version of my WOOP goal

Some evidence of me calling some people who are important in my life.

one of these is a call with one of my friends from back home, and the other one is a call with my brothers.

Even just a short call or text, can build a closer relationship with people you care about.

Mental Health Summary

In this unit we learned about social media and its effect on mental health. After we learned about different mental health conditions, and the symptoms, stigmas, myths, and treatments about all of them. I learned that many of the conditions are linked to each other, and that all of these conditions are able to be treated.

I learned that some of the main ways people with theses mental health conditions get treatment is by going to therapy, or medication. For example many people who have depression also can develop an eating disorder, and anxiety.

There are many stigmas about mental health such as men can’t show their feeling, another stigma is that many people think that mental health is not real, or not very serious. these are very far from the truth, because men have the same right to show their emotions. Mental health is a serious thing that can have a huge impact on many people’s lives, being educated and knowing how to talk to someone that struggles with mental health can be a huge help for people because sometimes they just need to talk to someone.

many of the myths of mental health are that people are just in a phase and that this behavior will pass, but in reality all mental health conditions can be treated, but they can never go away.

each mental health conditions comes with its various symptoms for PTSD it can be things such as flashbacks and anxiety. Depression can be with constant feeling of sadness, loneliness, and being tired very often. Bipolar can be very extreme mood swings. Anxiety can be trouble sleeping, nervousness, and trouble controlling worrying. OCD doing things multiple times for example turning on a light swich a certain amount of times, unwanted thoughts. Lastly eating disorder can look different some may be binge eating and gain weight, some may look very thin, and some may have a change in face structure.

throughout all of these mental health conditions it is important to keep yourself educated, and if you notice you friends or family struggling help and talk to them.

App review

The app Daily Bean is an app used for journaling about your day. The way the app works, is by recording how you are feeling, your emotions that day, what stressed you that day, and a short reflection on how your day went. The app is easy to use because it gives you pictures of all of the different things you fill out to give you an example. If you sign up to become a premium member it only gives you a few benefits such as having no ads, a analysis done, and access on other accounts. The basic package comes with all of the features shown on the photos shown below.

My WOOP goal is for me too express my emotions, and journal my feelings. This app has helped me in really thinking about myself and the emotions shown on the app help me see how my feelings are in that month. It gives me an overview of my emotions. It improves your thinking because it makes you think about what you are feeling, and it also helps your writing skills by giving details about your day in each reflection of the day. This improves stress resilience by journaling which is one of the stress resilience strategies. It helps me develop a health relationship with myself by understanding my emotions, and it has also helped me with stress resilience by writing out everything that stresses you out. This app impacts your brain health by journaling your feelings and stressors, but also your body, this app also tracks your exercise so you could set goals for yourself.

This app is not a very addictive, it helps the brain heal with emotions. People are always afraid that people will judge them if they talk about their feeling, so this app can make people feel comfortable to talk about their emotions. It is a humane app. The long term effects of journaling on this app that that after awhile you get to know yourself better, and it also it one of the stress resilience methods so it can also help release stress.

PE

This year in PE I am showing consistency in my active learning, in the skill, and all around. What I did very well on was swimming strokes, and what I have to work on would be transitions in floor hockey.

Chinese

Artifact 1 – time test

In this unit I learned about how to read, write, and speak in chinese. what I did well in was recognizing and write characters about the time. i am also able to tell the time with frequency word which is IL level, and use a sentence with time, and an activity in a day to day schedule.

Artifact 2 – unit 1 homework

This is the homework from the first unit of chinese which was date, mixed with how to introduce yourself. This homework shows my growth in my ability to understand chinese.

artifact 3 – writing a paragraph

This paragraph shows my reading and writing in chinese, when I got tested on this I was able to show my understanding and got most of it correct on the test. These 3 artifacts show my growth in my chinese learning.

all artifacts

Art sem 1 and sem 2

Semester 1

Artifact 1 – How Textiles Communicate

in this assignment we had to look on a website and learn about a kanga cloth. I answered thoughtfully on every question. on this assignment I received an approaching because I forgot to submit the final reflection questions.

Artifact 1- Reflection

Artifact 2 – Clay

this reflection goes along with this unit and it shows my understanding of how textiles communicate, and how the textile i created communicates a message of family and spending time with them. I did this by using different symbols and colors that represent certain things.

in this unit about clay we learned different techniques of how to make a clay piece. we also learned about some of the backgrounds of clay, for example we learned about how clay was used in chinese culture before. In my pieces i incorporated some of those techniques.

Semester 2

Artifact 1 – designing a painting

this was the painting i created. I designed this by using the vision board with the paintings i made, the pictures i generated on AI, and my thumbnail sketches. i painted the background blue then embroidered in the flowers. i am very proud of how it turned out.

Design Tech

in the box project we had to document our process from start to finish. I learned many things in this project for example how to use a gantt chart, how to assemble a tissue box from scratch using a laser cutter, and inkscape.

Health

in health this year we have learned about stress resilience, WOOP goals, and about social media. In unit 2 we had to get an app and test it out for a week. this app aligned with what our woop goal was. My goal was to release my emotions. the app i used was called Daily bean, and it really helped me learn a lot about myself and my emotions.

App review

Passion Project

my passion for passion project is interior design. In this time i have taken a teachers room, and redecorated it. I have added and subtracted things from the room. I have done a lot of progress and there is more to come.

i have added this whiteboard in the classroom to make learning better by seeing the homework and learning target in the front of the classroom rather than the back.

Core Classes

Artifact 1 – What I Began With – WW1 Impact Essay

Artifact 2 – Semifinal Product – WW1 Impact Essay

Artifact 3 – final Product – WW1 Impact Essay

In these artifacts I showed growth by taking the feedback and suggestion that I received from my teacher, and applying them in the essay the second time around to receive a higher grade. the feedback I received was adding more details about how hyperinflation came to be in germany before, during, and after World War 1. In the second artifact you can see the edits I made to the essay showing my growth. Lastly in the final artifact you see how I grew as a student in my work.

Artifact 4 – Holocaust- Inquiry to Interest

Artifact 5 – Holocaust – Inquiry to Interest

In the first unit I learned how the holocaust took many affects not only on peoples physical well being but also mental well being. I showed in this project all of the mental and physical obstacles that holocaust survivors had to undergo in after this tragic event, and for some still to this day.

Science

evidence of organization

In my note in the beginning pages I have created a table of contents that helps me keep track on what is on each page of my notebook, and helps me keep track of all of my work that I have done in science so far in last semester and in second semester.

This is the first half of my table of contents this shows what I have done in my notebook for the first 3 units of the year. I have learned about the fossil record of different animals like ducks. My group did a whole presentation about the fosiles of ducks. I also learned about weather and climate of Burgos Spain. In the current unit I am learning about what the impacts of humans are to our ecosystem, and about different food webs.

In the beginning of this table of contents i have done modeling, CER’s and notes from the 2 modules we have done in the playlist for this unit.

Evidence of active learner habits

In this active learner I set up goals for myself to grow as a student in science class. some things I need to grow on are prepare better for test. Another thing is asking more clarifying questions about what we are learning in class to make sure i have a good understanding of the materials.

active learner grades

In semester 1 i received all 3’s on my active learner, this shows that I always turn in my homework, I participate in class, group presentations, and more

Currently in semester 2 I have also received all 3’s on my active learning. in this semester I have done my homework, and participated.

One area of growth I need to work on are my 3 for 3s . One way I can work on getting better at theses are reading the questions thoroughly before answering the questions.

This is standard it was all about my weather project. I am really proud of the exceeding I received on my presentation, because I worked really hard on it.

English

Artifact 1 – Analytical Essay

In this essay I showed that I need to work on connecting my moral dilemma more to the stories chosen. A way I can fix that is by in the conclusion sentence I could take a second and really explain what makes this story connect to my moral dilemma. A few examples of some ways I glowed in this essay was by identifying the central themes of each story, and i used quotes that connected well to my moral dilemma.

artifact 2- AI narrative essay

In this story that was created with AI our group each took a section of the story and edited the story to make it to the leave of an 8th grade writer. The ways I could grow in this essay was going deeper into what each challenge was in the story by including more detail and going deeper. A way i glowed was by making the challenges interesting and creative.

Math

Artifact1- Unit 1 Transformation COL

In this celebration of learning the way I need to grow is by reading each question more deeply and really going back and checking each problem to make sure of any small mistakes that i made. A way I glowed on this test was by being able to determine the dilation,

Artifact 2 – Unit 3 COL

In this celebration of learning I was able to calculate slope correctly, and using different methods like the triangle method, the table, and the slope equation. one thing I need to work on is simplifying each answer.

Health unit 1 summary

Starting with the brain the prefrontal cortex is the last part of the brain to develop because it is at the front of the brain and the development goes from the back of the brain to the front.

The amygdala is where the FFF comes from. FFF stands for fight, flight, and freeze. this means that the amygdala reacts to stress and emotions.

Emotion comes from the amygdala. our brain does this cycle which are called thinking traps. What these thinking traps do is they develop a thought that constantly is going through your head, after that it becomes a continuous feeling that you feel. Later on it becomes a behavior that not only impacts you but also the others around you. The last part of the cycle is belif, this thought goes all the way into turning into a belief that takes over all of your positive beliefs and values. Thought traps are not only negative but it can also be in a positive way.

emotions are how we react to certain situations. When we go into a thinking trap it can cause our emotions to go off and react in different ways. For example in a happy situation you might react with a smile or laughing to show what you are feeling. whereas if you are in a stressful situation you might react by shutting down and keeping to yourself, crying because you are overwhelmed, or yelling or being sad because you are angry. Your emotions cause you to react differently in different scenarios.

stress is not always bad but it can also be good. Good stress can come in when you are in a competitive game and you want to win the game, it can cause you to lock in and focus on the game and nothing else. On the other hand bad stress can lead to many thing such as high cortisol levels, and impact the performance on something. For example on a test you may be very stressed out by it and cause you to go into FFF alert and maybe cause you to freeze on the test.

stress coping strategies can range from nutrition to have your brain move faster, just by having a healthy meal plan you start doing it in your daily routine and there will be a difference. Next is music like nature sounds, or hype music to get you into a mood, by putting on calming music while doing your homework can calm your brain down and focus. Another strategy is doing yoga to get your body moving and calm your mind and body, this goes along with exercise, it can help with focus and less tension, by doing yoga a few times a week to release stress will help. The next strategy that works is journaling, it can help you to really find who you are as a person and help get any negative or positive thoughts out. just by taking a moment at night and thinking about your day or week and jotting some highs and lows. The next one is sleep, sleep is crucial for calming the body, and brain. Sleep helps with things like emotion control, and to balance cortisol, by building a sleep schedule your body will feel a difference in emotions and more. Next is art therapy this can help with mindfulness and relaxation. The last stress resilience strategy to use in a time of stress is nature, nature helps with decreasing stress hormone levels and improves concentration. going on a short walk and connecting with the beauty and sounds of nature for a few minutes can go a long way while dealing with stress. By incorporating these stress resilience methods into your daily routine, it can help your body physically but also mentally.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram

Click on the images below to find a few helpful tips for creating your posts, adding media, and making categories:
