Unit 2 Reflection & Semester Check-In

Unit 2 topic A and topic B check-in:

  • I chose question 2, slope, as evidence of my best thinking because before this unit, I didn’t know or understand anything about slope.
  • I chose question 3 as evidence of my best thinking because it demonstrates that I am able to understand a graph (part B) and determine whether it represents a positive or negative association (part A), even though I forgot to write down the trend.

Skills Reflection:

  • Throughout Unit 2, I made the most improvement in understanding graphs. Right now, I am able to figure out the positive/ negative assassination, outliers, trends, and whether it have a strong relationship or not.
  • There isn’t a specific skill that I need to work on because I understand what I’m doing. However, I do need to pay more attention to the question and what I’m writing. For most of the question I got a partional on, it’s because that I missed something that I now how to do.
  • The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was time organization. At first, I misunderstood what the slope question was asking, so I wasted a lot of time on it. When I realized that I might not have time to do the rest, I had already stared at the question for a very long time. This caused me not to finish my L4 questions on time.
  • One strategy that helped me on this test was when I realized that I wasted too much time on a question, or was stuck on a question and I couldn’t solve it, I skipped to the next one and went back to it when I finished.

Goal Reflection & End-of-Semester Check-In:

Last year’s goal: In the next unit, I want to focus more in class so that when we have a test, I won’t be too stressed and can get a good grade.

  • I did somewhat well on this goal. There isn’t really a lot of discussion or teacher-led lessons in this unit; it’s mostly a lesson in Amplify or videos. However, most of the time when I am working or practicing, I can focus, and when there is a test, I am still stressed but feel like I remember everything.
  • Something that helps me make progress toward this goal is that when I am tired, I drink water or just stop thinking for a bit, and then focus right back in. When I have a question, I ask my tablemate.
  • When I got back from winter break, I had jet lag, and I was very tired during class that time. It was the first class of the new unit, so I feel like I missed some important formula.

End of Semester Self Reflection:

  • Some strengths I demonstrated last semester are understanding what I am learning, finishing my homework on time, and making sure to check my answers. When I have questions that I don’t know how to solve to the correct answer after checking, I make sure I understand it before the next class.
  • Some areas that I want to improve on are still focusing more on mini-lessons. During a test, I want to check my answer before submitting it so that I can correct errors and make sure I don’t make silly mistakes.

 New Academic Goal Moving Forward:

  • In the next unit, I want to memorize all the formulas for topic A: volume. I need to practice using the formula to make sure I won’t mix them up. If I could memorize the formulas, I want to get exceeding and make sure not to make any silly mistakes in the meeting area.
  • There isn’t really anything that could get in the way of completing this goal, except if I weren’t trying or practicing (except for the exceeding part).
  • If I get stuck or need help, I will ask for help or just try how to do it by myself before the next class.

Math: Designing a Story Problem

This is a project we worked on during the 2nd unit about slope and function.

The story is about Snoopy running a cookie sale over the Christmas break. It shows his spending on supplies, an extra cost for boxes, a baking day with no money coming in or out, a period of steady sales, and finally a loss from having to refund a customer. The piecewise function tracks how much money Snoopy has each day, modeling how money can go up and down in stages during a short business project.

Creating a story that fit all the necessary parts of the function was the most successful element. The narrative provided clear reasons for two separate spending drops, a flat period (baking), an earning period, and a final loss, which matches all the needed intervals for the piecewise graph.

The most challenging part was finding the precise dollar amounts and calculating the correct slope for each segment. It required keeping all the spending, sales prices, and final cash totals consistent so that the pieces of the graph connected properly at the right points.

The section showing the slope calculations and function equations could be clearer. Right now, it’s kind of messy. Showing my steps and final answers on the laptop, and checking them on paper.

This project showed that piecewise functions are useful for modeling situations that happen in clear, separate steps. It required defining exactly when each stage started and ended, calculating a different slope for each stage, and connecting them into one complete model that tells the whole story.

Unit 3 Health: Identity and Healthy Relationships

This unit focused on how to identify a healthy relationship and establish an identity for yourself. Topics in this unit were gender stereotypes, how healthy relationships should have boundaries, consent, communication, and respect. We also learned about the red flag and green flag in a healthy and unhealthy relationship. Some green flags are that both sides have equal places and feel safe. Some examples of red flags are when there is too much control.

The project was about the song All Too Well (10-minute version) by Taylor Swift. Our team made a video storyboard. This song has an unhealthy relationship between the male and female and accepts gender stereotypes.

The main topic we wrote about was the ones mentioned before. These songs strongly have gender stereotypes, males have more control in the relationship, and females should be kept in the house. The male trapped the female and kept her a secret, and the male lied to the female and thinking that nothing had changed.

PE: Unit 3 Soccer + Invasive Games

In this unit, we learned how to pass the soccer ball, and in invasive games, we learned how to catch the ball with a glove and throw. A challenging skill that I worked through in this unit is not being scared of the ball and participating. This skill was challenging for me because I don’t usually play soccer.

    PE: Unit 2 Swimming

In swimming this year, we learned the game of water polo, and we learned the eggbeater kick. We need to collaborate effectively with our groups when they might not be our friends. Something challenging is throwing and catching water with only one hand. Something that needs to be improved on is participating more, catching the ball, and passing it to a teammate.

    Unit 2 Portfolio: Reflection

I used to think that mental health issue mean when a person feels bad about themself and can’t control themself. They might have causes like a bad sleeping schedule, not being able to concentrate, or having bad eating habits. There are lots of misconceptions I had before about specific mental health issues. For example, about OCD and an eating disorder.

But now I think that mental health is more than that. People who have mental health issues can act like normal people, and nobody realizes. My thinking changed in the depression presentation. In the depression presentation, they talk about how they might act like normal people when there are people around them.

My perspective has changed. Before, I already knew that we shouldn’t laugh at them because they can’t control it. After looking at all the presentations and researching PTSD, I now think that we should help them, like encouraging them to do stuff they like. Mental health has become a huge part of our life today, and there are still lots of people that is scared to talk to people who will help because of all the misconceptions they have heard.

    Listening Comprehension in French

    a. Reflection on My Listening Assessment

In my folder, I found a listening assessment that I’m particularly proud of. Initially, I struggled to grasp the main points, but after redoubling my efforts, I was able to improve significantly.

    b. Uploading a Picture of the File

I will take a picture of this file and upload it as instructed.

    c. Description of the Activity

The activity was a listening comprehension exercise. At first, I found it challenging and didn’t fully understand the content. However, after redoing the assessment, I was able to grasp the key points much better. This experience taught me the importance of persistence and careful listening.

    d. Feedback Received

The feedback I received highlighted the need to listen more attentively, so I won’t miss any important information in the future. This advice is valuable, and I plan to apply it in my future listening activities.

    LA GUERRE DES JUMEAUX (ORAL)

    a. Reflection

I recently read the short novel “La Guerre Des Jumeaux,” a French story that captivated me with its exploration of sibling rivalry and identity. I found the characters relatable and the plot engaging, which made me reflect on the complexities of family dynamics. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and learned a lot of vocabulary from it.

    b. Vocabulary Practice with Quizlet

To improve my vocabulary, I practiced using Quizlet. Flashcards worked particularly well for me, as they allowed me to visualize the words and their meanings. I often pair the words with images or sentences to reinforce my understanding and retention. This combination of techniques has been effective in helping me memorize new vocabulary.

    c. Retelling the Story with Pictures

For the assignment, I needed to retell the story using pictures. To prepare, I wrote down key points and phrases I wanted to include, making sure to highlight the main events. Memorizing these key words was a bit challenging, as I wanted to ensure I conveyed the essence of the story without missing important details.

    d. Uploading My Oral Presentation

I downloaded my oral presentation from Schoology and uploaded it to my portfolio. This process helped me reflect on my progress and the skills I’ve developed.

    e. Feedback and Self-Assessment

The feedback I received was constructive and useful. I learned that I need to practice the pronunciation of certain words more to enhance my clarity when speaking. This insight will guide my future practice sessions.

    f. Pride and Areas for Improvement

I am proud that I incorporated a lot of the vocabulary we learned into my retelling. It showed my growth and understanding of the language. However, I recognize that I need to improve my pronunciation skills to communicate more effectively. This will be my focus moving forward.

    Science Active Learner Reflection

    PDF of my self-assessment

Current Goal: A goal I have right now is to make the most of the opportunity to improve from feedback and self-reflection. I often forget what I wanted to change and end up with the same mistake. To succeed in this goal, I will first look at the feedback from the teacher and paste it beside the task I need to improve, so that I won’t forget about it.

The progress I have made toward this goal is first looking at the feedback I got for all the assessments, and if I didn’t get the grade I want, I will change it. Making sure the new assessment I turn in follows all the requirements.

    Most proud:

I am proud that I understand what I am doing, and getting 3 out of 3 for all my current 3 to 3’s.

    Biggest challenge:

The biggest challenge I have in science is staying focused in class because we have a lot of articles to read, and it makes me tired.

    Active learner:

I demonstrated an active learner by turning in all my work on time and collaborating well with my tablemate.
