Unit 2 Reflection & Semester Check-In

Part 1: Unit 2 Topic A and B Test Reflection (Functions & Statistics)

A. Evidence of Your Best Thinking

I chose Question 5 as evidence of my best thinking because it showed my understanding of scatter plots and residual plots and how they should be. I chose Question 2 as another evidence of my best thinking because it showed my understanding between the relationship of functions tables, graphs, and equations.

    B. Skills Reflection

Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at knowing how scatter plots and residual plots work and what correlation coefficients are. One skill from this unit that I still need to work on is working backwards from residual plots to scatter plots and identifying correlation vs causation in critical thinking. The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was graphing a scatter plot from the residual plot, but I got the scale wrong. One strategy that helped me on this test was checking my work.

            Part 2: Goal Reflection & End-of-Semester Check-In

            A. Looking Back at Your Last Goal

Last unit, I set this goal: Get a 4 on the summative. I worked somewhat towards this goal, by practicing more, but I was still unable to get a 4.

            B. End-of-Semester Self Reflection

last semester, three of my strengths were understanding the math, challenging myself, checking my work. Three areas I still want to improve on are: be more careful on tests, read the standards, manage time better.

                C. New Academic Goal Moving Forward

In the next unit I want to get a 4 on the assessment, but I may not be able to get everything right. If I get stuck or need help, I will ask the teacher to help me and sign up for teacher support during lunch or after school.

Math Piecewise Word Problem Design Reflection

In unit 2 of math, we learned about piecewise functions and were required to come up with our own word problem, graph it, and solve it. I worked very hard on this project and got a 4.

                  1. Describe your story and what real-life situation it modeled?
my story is about two twins, Eric and James, playing Genshin Impact. Together, they climb a mountain to investigate something and complete a quest.

                  2. What part of your project are you most proud of? Why?
I am the most proud of the graph because the scaling of it to be easy to graph and look at while fitting in my math notebook was hard and took a long time.

                  3. What was the hardest part of creating your piecewise function?
The hardest part was probably finding the slope intercept equations for each line because it required some calculating and got quite big.

                  4. If you could revise one part of this project, what would you improve and how?
Because I got a 4 and did many things very well already, I might just try and improve the story and make it make more sense.

                  5. What did this project help you understand better about piecewise functions?
This project helped me understand how piecewise functions were much easier to graph using point slope form since most lines do not contact the y or x-axis. It also gave me lots of practice finding slope intercept and point slope equations with limited information.

                  DT Unit 2: Robotics

In unit 2 of DT, we did robotics. To warm up, we made sumo bots, and my team added 2 extra motors for more torque and won. For our second and third challenges, we had to build gearboxes to make our cars go fast. We wanted to still include our 4 motor base, but our chassis ended up being too big and heavy, and we had to adjust our gearbox to increase the torque. Our car also wasn’t that straight, so our wall bumper code didn’t work either. For the final project, we had to make a stacking robot. We wanted to make a Huey, but we ran out of time and only had a fast chassis with a claw that couldn’t move up or down, but our car was fast and versatile, so we were able to get first even when unable to stack many blocks.

                  DT Project 1: The box

For the first project in DT, we had to design a tissue box for a theme and laser cut it.

In our process journal, I had to Emphasize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. My design movement was art nouveau, and I themed it on jellyfish. I was kind of rushed, so next time, I would definitely try to work faster, and give myself more time to actually laser cut and put together my box.

Health Unit 3: Identity and Healthy Relationships

In unit 3 of health, we learned about 3 main topics, gender norms and stereotypes, diversity, and healthy relationships. We learned about how society had expectations for how a gender should act, and how people had a gender identity, gender expression, biological sex, and sexual orientation that were each vastly different from each other. We also learned about the gender unicorn.

                  The Gender Unicorn

Finally, we learned a lot about healthy relationships, we learned about the importance of effective communication, respecting boundaries, and getting consent. For our final project, we had to analyze a relationship in media and what effects it could have on the people who see it and how it differs from real-life relationships. We decided to make a video on Lucy Gray and Coriolanus Snow from The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

                  The video:

                  https://saschina-my.sharepoint.com/personal/natalie01px2030_saschina_org/_layouts/15/stream.aspx?sw=bypass&bypassReason=abandoned&id=%2Fpersonal%2Fnatalie01px2030_saschina_org%2FDocuments%2FMS%2FG8%2FHealth%2FThe%20Ballad%20of%20Songbirds%20and%20Snakes%20-%20Coriolanus%20Snow%20%26%20Lucy%20Gray%20%281%29%2Emp4&startedResponseCatch=true&referrer=StreamWebApp%2EWeb&referrerScenario=AddressBarCopied%2Eview%2E357216f1-e2b0-4a39-bc30-9ce519fe3912

For our relationship, it was unhealthy because it involved the risk of death of one person and manipulation that removed lots of the trust. Snow kept many secrets and did not respect Lucy’s boundaries, and they were in 2 very different risk levels and society levels that pulled them apart.

                  PE: Outdoor invasion games(Soccer)

This unit we played soccer. We learned about transitioning from defense to offence, and how to dribble, pass and shoot.

We played a lot of games, and I was quite engaged. Throughout this unit, I improved my soccer skills. I was able to pass the ball to my teammates and defend other teams.

                  Health Unit 2 Reflection

In unit 2 of Health, we learned about woop goals, and stigmatized mental health diseases.

I used to not know much about mental health diseases; I though that it was mostly just people being sad. But now, I know about many different types of mental health diseases, their symptoms, and how it is very hard for people to control it.

A thing we did that really helped me in my daily life was my woop goal project. I found a great to do app that could allow me to keep track of not only my to do’s but also daily and habitual things. Link to that post: https://portfolios.saschina.org/Natalie01px2030/2025/10/09/theres-an-app-for-that/

I learned a lot about our mental health disease research project where our table researched about OCD.

We also got to see other group’s projects on other mental health disorders that increased my understanding about them.

Learning about this stuff helped me keep track of my work better and understand the people with mental health problems more.

Science Semester 1 Active Learner Reflection

This is an active learner reflection that we did in eight grade Science through self evaluation.

New Goal: 10/7: Currently in eight grade science, I am positive, ready and focused in class. In the future, I plan to become a better active learner, specifically in the area of “asks questions.” I would like to do this by pushing myself to speak up during group/class discussions at least once per class. I will also try ask the teacher if I don’t understand something.

Previous Goal: In eigth grade science, I plan to become a better active learner and participate more in class discussions. I will try to answer more questions in class

Previous Goal Status: I can answer question more in class discussions, but I do not do this consistently, and I tend to not participate much sometimes.

In this class, I am proud that I improved in speaking in class discussions as I started to not be afraid to share what I know. Although I have already improved on this, one of my challenges in this class is to improve on speaking more in class and being more confident especially in the realm of asking questions to the teacher and following up on missed assignments. I have demonstrated the qualities of an active learner by always coming to class on time with my stuff, and reflecting and participating when needed.

Math Unit 1 Sticker Project Reflection

As a kind of CFU for topic A of math, we had to design a sticker using transformations. I made a sticker of a Hylian Shield and got a 4.

Although my sticker did not resonate with a wide audience, and I did not win the vote, I am very proud of it because I put in a lot of effort, and I got a 4. I took a lot of time thinking of a design with shapes that could fit all the needed specifications, and I also spent lots of time adding stuff for a L4, so when I got a 4, I was really happy and proud. I think next time, I would want to plan my time better to not have to rush a bit at the end.
