In unit 3 of math, we learned how to calculate simple intrest, we also learned about percent equations, how to find percents, and more. For example, simple intrest is I=PRT, P is principle, the amount you start with, R is the rate the bank gives you, T is the amount of time.
Some new things I learned was that some people charge way too much for tips and how to compare prices.
Some challenges I faced were making my work clear and showing my work. I mental mathed way too much.
We had to make a project about a type of communication or transportation device and explain the positive and negative impacts of it. I chose boats, or more specifically, fishing boats. I chose to do it on Minecraft because I play the game and I know a lot about it, and I wanted to “legally” play games in school… I think that I should have used my time more wisely, because I had to sit down for 4 hours at home to complete it. I don’t know how those Youtubers do it.
I think I captured the main points of my project, although I did not really include how and who solved the issues of fishing boats.
Even though I didn’t include how people solved it, I made sure to explain it when I presented.
In this unit, I learned how to find reliable resources and websites. We had to annotate the articles we found and summarize the important information to put in our CER/essay. Writing this essay made me realize how much there really is about fishing boats.
I think I need to stay focused more and making better use of my time. I used too many parenthesis and used them wrong, making my writing confusing and hard to read. Something I did well was finding good evidence, and quite a lot of it. I missed some important parts and did not have the most information about solutions and how people solved them. The articles I found were mostly about positive and negative effects.
I think something I did well was making my article concise and included only the most important things.
I think I am a meeting because I participate and share my ideas often. During group discussions, I make sure that people are included and I also share my own ideas. I help my group clean up and take materials like folders or highlighters back. When asked to turn and talk, I usually make the most of my time.
I think my summative assessments were better than my formatives because formatives are supposed to measure where I am, and summatives, well, summarize my learning. I am proud of improving from my formatives to my summatives. Some challenges was the presentation, because I suck at presenting. I think I did not use feedback as well as I could have, as I don’t always listen in class. If I could redo my summative outline, I would put more work into it and add more detail.
I think the dissections were the most interesting because it was hands-on and a new experience. Because my essential question was about badminton and how the body moves. I learned that all body systems are essential for the human body to move and function. Subsystems are all made of different types of cells that help it move. I would improve my project by being more creative.
The decide model can be used to help make decisions because all the steps in “DECIDE” (Define problem, Explore options, Consider, Identify values, Decide what to do, evaluate decision) This can help prevent other people from pressuring you into doing something. The DECIDE model is to help people get through tough and/or awkward situations when someone is trying to get you to do something. If all the questions in DECIDE are answered and you are satisfied with it, you can most likely get through the situation without any major issues.
Effects of Substances
There are many types of substances that are addictive and harmful to children and adults alike. For example, nicotine, tobacco, meth, cocaine, alcohol, and more. Different drugs can affect people in different ways, such as how alcohol can make some people dizzy, or other vomit. There are many websites that are safe to use to make safe decisions of whether or not to take a certain substance. Even though it may be tough to sometimes to refuse, staying safe is always and should be someones top priority.
I learned how to scale things by using proportions. I understand that scaling is just how many times larger or smaller something is of something else like scale factor=copy/original. The interesting thing about the unit was how you could just multiply the result of the equation and did not have to do it separately. What was tricky was remembering all the equations.
I did not really follow the convention rules and my claim and evidence do not align well. My reasoning did not really support my evidence well and were about other things. If I could redo my assessment I would follow the convention rules and make my reasoning more clear. I would choose my evidence more carefully and to something related to my claim. I did not do anything well on my formative because everything was wrong. Between now and the summative, I will do the flint bot to help me write better claims and find better evidence to support it.
I am proud of my understanding of conflict and dynamic characters. Some challenges were my understanding of round characters, as I did not choose the best fitting answer. If I could redo the assessment, I would study round characters and the structure of CER too improve my grade, because those were the things that I missed on the formative. I will try to study the different types of characters more and try tp memorize the characteristics of all of them to help improve my grade. I would tell myself to not procrastinate as much because when I do, I usually do not get the grade I would like.
