So, I already know how to play Volleyball before this class. But what I improved is the underhand serve. Because we were practicing underhand serving with our practice. Also, learning how to collaborate with our team when we are having the “competition”. Even though the boys were cheating while the teacher wasn’t looking, my team were still very chill. Because we know, that winning isn’t the most important thing, it’s working together.
During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
Making observations, inferences and wonderings
Using photos and articles as evidence
Writing a CER paragraph
Asking and answering open and closed questions
Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was being a court reporter.
What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
We should care about the past because we can learn about the past and what happened in the past. We can understand the past and change the future. During the Otzi unit, I learned about what things were valuable in the past. I also learned about what scientists learned about the past, and what they did.
What worked well?
I am proud of the following work and introducing the Mock trial and make them into a newspaper. Because I have to get information from lawyers and witnesses.
I am proud of the work above because I wrote an article that introduced what happened to Otzi. And designed a newspaper for people. I did a very nice job interviewing the Lawyers and witnesses. I also took pictures of the mock trial and recorded what happened during the Mock trial.
What did not work well?
I found some of this work challenging because I might have trouble thinking of good questions to interview the lawyers and witnesses.
I found the work above challenging because sometimes, I can’t really identify if the question is a closed question or an open question. Sometimes, the question seems to ask me what happened, but it might just ask if it is it or not.
Personal Relevance
Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because in the future, I might be working with other people. I should collaborate with others so sometimes I have trouble doing my work. I can call for help, and we can fix the problem together.
I learned how to dribble the ball with my feet instead of kicking the ball straight forward. I also learned how to work with my teammates, that soccer is. ot just winning. It is how be collaborate.
What helped
Maybe when I grow up, I might become interested in soccer. This might help me in the future.
What is something I am very proud of
The thing that I’m very proud of is that during the game, I scored a lot of goals. And me and my teammates cheered up for each other.
What is something I can work on
I think I can work on to give more chance to let my teammates score the goal. Because I always have the ball, I should let them play too.
Me and my partner built a egg car using 4 wheels, 3 sheets of papers, straws, and tape to build the egg car.
What did I learn?
I learned that the egg car will only move if there is a force acting on the egg car, because that when me and my partner put the car on the slope, the car goes down. But, if me and my partner put the car on the ground, the egg car won’t move. I also learned about the Newton’s third law, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That means, if my egg car has more mass on it, then the egg car needs more force to push the car in the same speed, but if the force stays the same. Then, the speed woll go slower if the weight is more.
What worked?
What worked is our egg that’s in the egg car didn’t crack. Most of the things were still on the car after the car runs down from the slope.
What didn’t work?
So, at first, me and my partner couldn’t figure out how to make the wheel stick onto the car. But when we tape the wheels, the wheel can’t move anymore. And when the car roles down for testing, it almost jumped down.
Personal Relevance
The egg car is pretty similar to the rollercoaster. Because when the egg car roles down from the slope, the force is as same as the rollercoaster when the rollercoaster comes down from the slope too. It’s like the first law and third law.
Me and my partner built a balloon car. That there is a cardboard, and under the cardboard, there is 4 wheels that can make the balloon car move. And we used straws to connect the wheels. On the balloon car, there is a balloon with a straw in it. The criteria is to make the balloon car move, and weights.
What did I learn?
We learned about the Newton’s 3 laws, and how they act. For the first law, the object will only move when the other object acts on it. Just like the force of the balloon, when we release the balloon, the air will push the car to move. For the second law, an object is directly proportional to the net force that’s acting on it. And inversly proportional to its mass. It means that when there is more mass on the balloon car, then the force needs to increase. Or else, the speed and distance of the balloon car will decrease. Newton’s third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that when the balloon’s force is pushing the car, there will be an opposite reaction.
What worked?
What worked is that me and my partner made the balloon move. Me and my partner fixed the balloon, and we made the balloon release faster. So, there will be more force acting on the balloon car that will make the balloon move.
What did not work?
What did not work is that at first, we failed because the balloon is releasing very slow that there is not enough force to make the balloon car move. Me and my partner taped the straw too tight, so the air was releasing slowly. What me and my partner did was to make the tape loosen up a bit so the air can release faster. Then, there will be more force to make the balloon car move.
Personal Relevance
I don’t really have any personal relevance. But, I know one thing that is kind of related to the balloon car. It is the rocket. Because when the rocket start to fly, there is a lot of smoke coming down from the rocket. I think that is the force that’s making the rocket to go up. Just like the balloon that’s on the balloon car, the balloon is releasing the air to make the car move.
Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.
What are we learning?
Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers)
Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits)
Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)
Setting (the world that I create for my story)
What’s working?
The story elements that I enjoy writing and planning is the part that to make Elowen’s mom accept her to play piano. Because it is a very important part to the story. Because that element makes Elowen to do her speech and change her whole personality into a better one. And the elements that I’m very proud of is that when Elowen cured her grandmas illness. Because it is a very hard part to let Elowen’s mom accept her to play piano. And I thought of a lot of different conflict to let Elowens mom let her play piano. And curing her grandma’s illness from playing piano is the best one I can think of.
Areas for more Growth
Places that I want to improve is that to let my story’s elements change slower. Because some parts are just appeared suddenly, and that ,makes my story very random. Like no one could predict what will happen next. Example: Elowen’s grandmother suddenly got Alzheimer without any clues. And her grandmother just pop out from her story.
Personal Relevance:
Even though I’m not planning to be an author, creative writing might help me in. real life because sometimes. I just like to write when I have something popped out from my mind. It records my brain’s evolution every month or year.
What I already know is freestyle, back stroke, and the other one I don’t really remember the name. But the move looks like a frog. And I also learned scuba diving, and snerkeing already.
What I learned
I learned some hand gestures that is very useful. I also learned how to go to the beach properly and what we should do when we face the waves. Also, our coaches taught us about how to check things with our partners.
What I did is that I played with the Indi robot cars and also the gravitrax to strengthen my critical thinking.
What did I learn?
Critical thinking is to think what did not work and to fix the problem and think about how to fix and the problem I made.
What worked?
I thought critically when I problem solved to make the marble kept in the place and didn’t make it fall or drop.
What did not work?
Me and my teammates struggled by making the Indi robot move the direction we want it to be. Because sometimes, me and my teammates kind of made some mistake by letting the robot go to the wrong way, but then we changed the color of cards which has different meaning.
Personal Relevance
Today’s learning will help me know what critical thinking’s actually meaning. And also to think critically while learning, or even playing. The things we played today gave me an example of what critical thinking actually is. So, when I grow up, and if anyone’s talking about critical thinking. Then, I will know what to do.
What I learned is, big base, baseball, tea ball. I think these are the things I learned and also did well.
What I think I did well is that for the kick ball. I can kick far and run fast without letting anyone touch me or catch me. And also for fielding, I can follow where the ball is and try to catch it but I didn’t catch any.
What I think I should improve is that to be the fielder. So every time when I am being a fielder, I’m scared that I can’t catch the ball. Because if I almost catches the ball but I didn’t, my teammates might complain and stuff. Which makes me nervous and can’t concentrate.
My goal is to kick the ball better because sometimes, I can’t kick the ball too far and I have to kick the ball again.
During this unit, Campaign for the Olympics, I worked on I worked on creating and pitch and persuade script to convince the IOC to choose my host country, Tokyo Japan, to host the 2032 Summer Olympics. I worked on my presentation skills, and I learned script to help me memorize my script. I created a presentation using PPT and I used the SAS databases images. I use the SAS databases to complete my research about Tokyo, Japan. I used the class persuasive sentence to make my speech very persuasive.
What did I learn? Why do global sporting events exist?
Global sporting events exist because they bring people together and help people celebrate different cultures though sport. They increase the economy; they showcase hist country’s culture and are a positive influence in the world.
What worked well?
I am proud of these things that I can remember most of the important things from what I wrote from my script. I also collaborate with my partner very well on who goes first, and all the organization we did goes well.
I am proud of the things above because I learned a lot of new things like searching pictures and being brave to present to strangers. I also did very well on collaborating with my partner so then, we can work better without any conflict to each other.
What did not work well?
I found some things challenging, they were sometimes reading too fast that I even said some words wrong. Also, the persuasive sentences are not that persuasive to make the IOC want to host Japan.
I found the things above challenging because when I was presenting for the IOC, I found myself reading my script fluently but sometimes stuck. And also, when I am reading my script, I noticed that the persuasive sentences are not that persuasive to make the IOC want to host Japan.
Personal Relevance
Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because when I must communicate with others, I must learn how to collaborate. This is because I need to ask others and maybe persuade others from doing something good.
