Social Studies Unit2: Essay

To write this essay, we first annotated three articles, and put them into an organizer. We wrote this essay with all the key informations in it, and made some improvements with the feedback from the first draft.

☆I tried my best even though this wasn’t an easy topic to find articles on

⚐I should work on time management and finding more useful articles, and consider if their really helpful before choosing them.

Proportionality and Percentages

I understood how percentage works, and it is very useful in daily life. It can be converted to fraction or decimals. I learned that cross multiple method and discovered the formula of calculating percentage increase/decrease. The converting process and the convenience between different rational numbers was very interesting to me. Since the cross multiple method was new, it took me a while to get used to it and fully understand it.

Unit 2: Cells and HumanBody Systems Portfolio Reflection

Essential Question: How do our body systems work together when we play our favorite sport?

How did what you learn about cells and human body systems help you to answer this essential question?

How does this relate to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems made up of groups of cells?

What I learned is about body systems and organelles, cells, and tissues. These helped me explain and show how different body parts work together. There are systems, subsystems within them, cells which are part of them, and organelles that are within the cells. I learned about different body systems, and this helped explain that when we play our favorite sport, its not just the muscle and bones we see, but a lot more happening inside. Different organelles produce different cellular products in order to provide different kind of energies for different uses. The circulatory system speeds up in general, and oxygen gets plumped around the body in a more constant speed. This shows that every cell and organelle contributes for the tissue, and every tissue contributes to the subsystem, every subsystem contributes to the system. The body system isn’t going to function without any of the parts missing, this demonstrates how the body is a system of subsystems made up of groups of cells.

Which learning experience was the most impactful or memorable for you as a learner?

Teacher Mini-Lessons (Heart flow diagram, Direct instruction,
Explanation of Body System functions), because I was able to focus, and they were not as boring as regular research, and not as easy to get off task while working with partners. I work best when the task is not boring, but also not to a point where I get too distracted by the fun.

Also Independent research projects (Blind Box Project), because even though this is serious research, I definitely learned a lot while I was researching, and it was a very valuable project to me. For me, even though these kind of projects are not as entertaining to me, as long as I push through, I will be able to learn a lot.

Improvements

One thing I can improve on is try to achieve an L3 initially without the need for resubmissions, in this unit I have been just one step away from a L3, and even though I can still get a L3 with resubmissions, I will loose the opportunity for a L4. In order to improve in the next unit, I should double check my work to make sure it meets the criteria before I submit my assignments. Another thing I should do is to make sure I have enough time and not rushed while do an assignment, so I can improve the quality.

Christmas and Candies

The intended audience is everyone who celebrates Christmas. To spread the joy of Christmas to everyone.

Unity: different elements

Pattern: Red and green stripes, and red and white stripes.

Self-Expression and Persistence

How do your final clay piece and name drawing reflect different aspects of your identity (who you are) ?

For the clay slab, I added a lot of summer elements such as surf boards and sea shells, because I personally has always been passionate about summer for it is magical and full of memories. For the 3D clay project, I created a mash up of cottage core and dream core, they are my favorite styles, so I reimagined my room into a surrealism edition. The graffiti connected to me because I added elements such as ballet shoes and headphones(representing music) that I am passionate about.

How did you demonstrate persistence while creating these two works of art?

The clay kept cracking but I managed to keep the final project together at the end. The name drawing was so much harder than I had imagined, I thought it was just drawing, but I had to keep going back and changing my sketches because the size of letters were always different, I changed it around 6-7 times, and finally produced the final project.

Social Studies Unit1: Media Presentation

Noemie Chen GOLD C1 media presentation influencer video.MOV

I am proud of the creativity and effort that i put into this video, I added a lot of funny elements, and I also tried my best and used all of the editing skills that I can find in myself.

I should improve on my efficiency, because my schedule was a little tight at the end.

Bias is someone who lean towards one side, so the information that they provide are inaccurate.

If people have the same perspectives, there will be less controversies, and more peace. This will also lead to higher efficiency, because then there will be less fighting and more time spent on the actual work.

If people have the same perspectives, then there will less creativity, and problems will be harder to solve, because the solutions will be less diverse. Only having one perspective is arrogant, because nothing is ever 100% right.

Unit 1 Summary

What did I understand in this unit?

I understood the term reciprocal, and the meaning of proportional relationship and constant of proportionality.

What new information did I learn in this unit?

I learned proportional relationships and constant of proportionality(COP),the COP is the relationship between x and y. There are two ways of writing the COP: the COP itself and it’s reciprocal. This is because if the numbers are written in a table, and if the table was flipped, then the new COP will be the reciprocal of the original COP. So the COP really just depends on whether x is placed on the right or the left of the table.

What was interesting in this unit?

What I find interesting is that reciprocal is so useful: when calculating fraction divisions(multiplying the reciprocal), when calculating the two forms of COP(the original and when x and y has switched places), and a fraction multiplied by its own reciprocal makes a whole.

What was tricky for you in this unit?

I sometimes mix up the two different types of COP, and when the x and y are not given, I sometimes have trouble to determine the x and y.

Unit 1-Table Tennis P.E reflection

What are we doing?

We are practicing how to play table tennis, and we are playing king/queen of the court.

What are we learning?

We are learning about speed and trajectory, collaboration and how to play more effectively. We learned about the basic rules of table tennis, such as you have to hit the ball to the diagonal section when you serve. We also learned about forehand and backhand, and the techniques that help us play more effectively.

What’s working?

I can serve correctly and effectively, and I can hit the ball.

What’s bot working?

I cannot promise a 100% success for my serve, and even though I can touch the ball, I might not be able to hit where I want.

Personal Relevance

I have improved this unit by being able to serve effectively, and there is sill space for me to improve on preciseness of where the ball goes.

🫆My identity through art🖌️

I have a strong passion for French and Ballet, so the subject is Ballet point shoes dancing on a French flag carpet. I am Canadien, so I drew a small Canadien flag and my name in thick letters on top of the French flag for coverage and decoration. The lines around the subjects are for creating tension and leading the viewer’s attention the middle subject, and I added a few white lines for details. The colors i used are mostly bold and dark colors, in order to create a formal impression.
