I think the most important safety behaviors online is to make sure that you are not telling anyone personal information about family and friends and yourself. And if someone is saying things you don’t understand, then you should go ask an adult.

my mom, my dad, my brother, my ayi, and a trusted guardian.

They make them unsocial and just stay there watching all the time. also they affect their self esteem because some people on social media use fake filters and it makes the teens feel bad.

ask a parent or guardian when not sure.

stay safe on the internet.

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was an expert witness
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because we can learn how neolithic people live. We also learned that back then, they were very resourceful. We also learned that they started growing crops back then. There were also diseases. And conflict existed. They were hunting for food, creating clothes, tools, and medicine from nature.
  1. I learned how to write a CER. I also took part in a mock trial; I also learned how to analyze images and articles. I learned how to collect evidence. I completed many drafts for the trial and learned how to list resources. I learned about controlling the court and creating open and closed questions and answering them. Lastly, I learned all about Otzi the iceman.
  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of my answering questions at the mock trial for the lawyers to take note of.
  1. I am proud of creating an entire sheet of open and closed questions and answering them on the sheet.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, like my flowsheet with all the open and closed questions for trying to predict what the lawyers are going to say. And memorize all of the Otzi content.
  1. I found the work above challenging because it was nearly impossible to predict what the lawyers are going to ask, and it’s also very hard to memorize everything you are going to say.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because it helps me communicate with people better and I can work with a variety of people without complaining and whining.

Math baking project

what did I do

I worked with my partners to calculate the sale price of a product that we will make and bake to sell on a bake sale. On day 1, we researched recipes and decide which one we want to bake, we also calculated the amount we need in the metric system using rates and equivalent ratios. On day 2, we calculated the unit price of each ingredient and also calculated the unit price for each cookie. On day 3, we provide a clear mathematical explanation for cost of 1 batch of the recipe and cost of each serving using scale factors. We also calculate the markup price and the sale price of our cookies. On day 4, we wrote a pitch about our progress.

what did I learn

I learned how to use equivalent ratios and rates in math to help calculate the amount of ingredients we need to make the cookies taste good. I also learned how to apply new strategies to help me calculate the amount like double number line or ratio tables.

what worked

We calculated exactly how much ingredients we need and baked them successfully. I. also calculated the markup price and made a decent amount of profit from the sold cookies. We also made sure that the cookies were not too expensive by using my newfound knowledge of rates and equivalent ratios to determine wether or not we should make the cookies expensive.

what did not work

We had to determine the sale price for the cookies multiple times because it was too expensive. So we lowered the sale price over and over again to make sure the markup price was not over the sale price but the sale price was cheap enough so people could buy it.

personal relevance

This project was really fun and taught me new ways to solve math projects, I think that the baking part and bargaining with the customers were both super awesome and enjoyable. That is why this project is relevant.

Balloon car reflection

What did I do

I built and modified a balloon car and raced with it. To practice Newton’s laws and put them to use on the car.

what did I learn

Learned about the Law of inertia and the law of action reaction, also applying the second law of acceleration. To make sure the balloon car reaches the end without turning around.

What worked

I successfully built and made sure that the balloon car went straight and fast.

what did not work.

I could not memorize the second law of acceleration and apply it to the car

Personal relevance

This activity helped me understand and act on two of the laws and also helped me figure out that the second law is.

egg car challenge

What did I do?

I built a egg car with my partner and the goal is to try to let the egg survive in the car when it hits the brick at the end of the slope. Our car had a small roof with a closed side to protect the egg and prevent it from flying out of the car.

What did I learn?

I learned about how the first law of inertia applied to the egg wanting to fly out when the car hits the brick. We also applied the third law of action and reaction because when the car hits the brick, the brick is also hitting the car.

what worked?

The car when it hit the brick successfully protected the egg and only had a small crack in it. We also successfully made the car roll down the hill fast but slow enough to keep the egg safe.

what did not work?

The car was a tiny bit small and when we tried to put the egg inside, it kind of fell apart a little but we taped it back. And also we had a little trouble making the axles for the wheels equal length so they can fit on the track and not turn sideways and tumble down the ramp.

personal relevance

I developed collaboration skills and also learned how cars work and protect us when we have an accident when driving. I also learned how Newton’s laws apply to cars and how they work.

Design Tech

This is what I did for my first unit. Graphic design. I designed a harry potter golden snitch keychain. These are the steps of doing it. I used the Lazer cutter to form the shape and color. I also learned how to draw and make cool creations on Inkscape. And used it to create a draft of our graphic design creations before we went to the Lazer cutting sections. I chose to design a keychain for my mom because I think it would look good on her bag and she is currently using it right now. I think I did really well at drawing and planning out my design on inkscape and draft paper. Even though the final result was not as good as I thought it would be, I think I still did pretty well. The main goal for this project is to help design something for your client.

These two photos are from my other unit 3D printing. I used a 3D printer to create a ice cream pawn for my group. Our main theme is desserts. And we made chess pieces that resemble those deserts.

Creative writing reflection

What are we doing?

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

what are we learning?

Theme (My purpose for writing this story and my message to readers), character development(creating believable characters with positive and negative traits), plot (The sequence of events in my story, Western and Eastern ways of storytelling), setting (The world that I create for my story).

what’s working?

I described my story very well and I think the foreshadowing that happens in the story with the upcoming events. My favorate line that I wrote in my story was “WHY!? AFTER EVERYTHING WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH TOGETHER! WHY DID YOU DO THIS!?” because it shows how and what the main character is feeling and his connections to his best friend.

areas for growth

I think I need to improve on some character growth because it is not that obvious but there is some. I also need to try and describe the setting a little more often whenever they enter a new place.

Personal relevance

I am very interested in writing more creative stories because I think its is fun and I can express my imagination infinitely. I would be looking forward to writing more of these stories in my free time as a hobby.

Indie cars and marble tracks

What did I do

I tested the indie robot car with different colors and what it did when it sensed them. I also tested different ways the marble can move through the blocks that I built.

what did I learn

Critical thinking is when we think about what we know and what we don’t know, then we use that information to create a sulotion

what worked

the paths worked as we constructed color paths for the indie car and built roads for the marble to roll down on.

what did not work

I did not use critical thinking strategy for most of the indie car’s levels. And some of the tracks that we built for the marble did not work.

personal relevance

today’s learning would help me understand critical thinking a lot better than before.

Unit 1 Olympic Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?

During this unit, Campaign for the Olympics, I worked on creating a presentation about why my city should host the Olympics and researching different Olympic sports.

  1. What did I learn? Why do global sporting events exist?

Global sporting events exist because they bring countries together and help people celebrate different cultures through sports.

  1. What worked well?

I am proud of these things because I presented broadly and proudly to the audience, and I had no filler words during the presentation. I also almost never read from note card and nearly all the time I was facing the audience. I think I did good with the different hand gestures toward the screen all the time when I was trying to make a point during the presentation.

  1. What did not work well?

I found some things challenging, like trying to memorize the script for the criterions and introduction. I had to look at the script during some parts of the introduction and the criterions. I could also improve on not looking at the screen. I sometimes during the presentation look at the screen. I need to try and face the audience more during my partner’s or my speeches.

  1. Personal Relevance

Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because I can always use those skills out in the world during competitions that require teams or team sports and at work too. I can learn to collaborate better in life, and it can help me achieve more things in the future too.
