Dystopian Fiction-The Giver

What did I do?

I learned Dystopian fiction by writing academic paragraphs and discussing topics collaboratively. And, by reading a book about it.

What did I learn?

We build vocabulary words and used them for a test. In the test, we wrote a short story. We also had a lot of common lit assignments.

What worked?

I fully understand the book and I think that the book is very interesting. I also used every word I chose in the vocabulary word test.

What id not work?

I sometimes have overdue common lit assignments and in the common lit assignments, I also need to improve my paragraphs. Sometimes, I didn’t really hear what the teacher was saying so I don’t know what to do.

Personal Relevance

The book was really interesting, I would love to see the movie. I think I improved on my reading skills and know I want to read more Dystopian fiction.

Unit 1 Online Bullying

What safety behaviour do you think are most important for you.

I think that not piking up calls from random people. I think this is important because you might get calles from scammers.

Who are your five most trusted people.

Mom, Dad, Brother, Hayoon, Yian.

How does social media impact teens the most in your opinion.

Social media impacts teens amount of sleep.

What strategy can help you stay safe.

I think that not going to random website that you have never seen and it has a weird link is not safe at all so I wount go to random websites.

What would be the biggest takeway you have.

Australia banned a lot of websites.

Roller Coaster L4 Lab and Model

Roller Coaster L4 Movie.mp4

What did I do?

We started by completing a investigation of how the hight of the starting point of the roller coaster affects the success rate of it succeeding. We than drew a diagram of a roller coaster and shared it with our group members. We then started building a roller coaster using masking tape and foam tubes. The roller coaster cart is a marble which roles on the foam tubes. We then wrote down the data and wrote a conclusion using a CER paragraph.

Volleyball Reflection

What did I do?

I did volleyball activities and had a lot of fun.

What did I learn?

I learned how to do the underhand serve in vollyball and I also learned the rules of a vollyball compitition.

What did I do well?

I did well at the underhand serve.

What did I not do well?

I didn’t usually serve the ball in a competition.

Personal relevance

I learned how to compete in a friendly volleyball competition which we had in the end of the class.

Tasty Profits

What did I do?

I worked with my partner and sold lemons tart to different people. We wrote every thing down on a paper. The things that are put on the paper is the sell price, the thing which is sold and how much money we earn.

What did I learn?

I learned that earning a lot of money is hard and you have to make something that looks good too make more people to buy it.

What worked?

We did very well with our selling. We sold our product empty and earned about 300 fake RMB.

What did not work?

We should have made more lemon tarts because we sold it out and more people wanted it.

Personal relevance

I think that I did a great job with the bake sale and every thing worked out. I also learned that earning money is hard.

Unit II – Ötzi Unit Reflection

What did I work on?

I worked on a chart that had Observation, inference and wonderings. In the activity, we will see an image and then tell what you see, what you notice, what you infer, what you think, and what you wonder. Later in the lesson, we wrote a CER paragraph. We first wrote a first draft that wasn’t that good, and we used the help of AI to improve it and that was also the final draft. Then we learned about opening and closing questions.

What did I learn?

I learned that digging up the past is important because it can tell a lot about past tribes, and does tribes tell us about their culture. Learning these cultures are fascinating because you get to watch a lot of videos about these cultures. I also learned that an open question makes the person that is answering to answer a long and detailed answer while a closed question makes a person answer in a Yes or a No.

What worked well?

I worked well on the final project which proves that Ötzi was murdered or not murdered. I did a great job with my speech and had many good questions. I also did great at my CER paragraph. I know this because I got a high score on it and I just think that I did a great job.

What did not work?

Sometimes I was off task and didn’t know what to do so I ended up having some missing work and I have to catch up on it later. This will cause me to be in a hurry and do things poorly. I also sometimes do things in a hurry and do them a bit poorly. Next time I should do things more slowly.

Personal relevance

I really think that I improved with my social studies because before I didn’t have good scores but know I have good scores and I have more Exceeding’s. I also learned how questions can be opened or closed questions. I think that knowing this can help a lot in my future.

Soccer reflection

What did I learn?

I learned how to dribble the ball with the inner part of my feet.

What did I do well?

I did great at defending and blocked the ball from the strongest opponent several times.

What do I need to improve in?

I need to improve in scoring because I never scored yet.

Personal relevance

I learned how to dribble the ball and how to pass it to my teammates. I think that I really improved in soccer.

Egg Car

What did I do?

I builded a car with a crumple zone and a safety belt which was send down a giant ramp. The crumble zone is for decreasing the equal and oposite reaction. The safety belt is to keep the egg from flying out.

What did I learn?

I learned that modern cars has crumble zones for slowing down the car when it crashes. And, safety belts will keep the passenger from flying out because of newton’s law interia.

What worked?

Our car stayed together and didn’t fall apart when an egg is placed on it. We also had enough materials, we didn’t run out of it. I worked as a group with my partner. We shared ideas and thoughts.

What did not work?

The rubber on the tires cause the car to flip so the egg cracked. We also should have made the car in a different way.

Personal Relevance

I learned a lot about cars and a lot about newton’s laws. I also had a really fun time with the egg car challenge. I shared my ideas with my partner and I worked together.

Balloon Car

What did I do?

Me and my partner builded a balloon car powered by air. The materials used for the balloon car includes a paper plate, a ballon, two wheels, and some straws. We did all this for exploring newton’s laws and how they work.

What did I learn?

I learned about newton’s 3 laws. Newton’s 1 law states that an object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted by an unbalanced force. This connects to the balloon car challenge because the balloon car wasn’t moving at first. But when you let the air flow out it will start moving, the unbalanced force is the air coming out. Newton’s 2 law states that an object with a grater mass takes more force to move. This connects with the balloon car challenge because with the balloon car challenge, we also put washers on the balloon car to see how far the car travels. When the amount of washers are increased, the distance the car travels is decreased which shows newton’s 2 law. Newton’s 3 law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This connects with with the balloon car challenge because the air coming out of the balloon is making the car go forward which shows an reaction force.

What worked?

Our balloon car’s design was well designed so it traveled the fastest. I also collaborate with others well and share ideas to each other and that is how our balloon car worked so well.

What did not work?

Sometimes I get bored and end up thinking about other things. This will cause me to not understand the teacher. To solve the problem I will pay attention to the teacher no matter what.

Personal relevance.

I learned about newton’s laws which are the laws of inertia, the law of acceleration and the law of action reaction. I learned this by doing the balloon car challenge which was really fun.
