PE badminton

What did I learn?

I learned how to grip backhand and also fore hand

What worked?

Using my own kind of grip kindof works better

What did not work?

The grip teacher told us did not work s well as my own kind

Personal relevance

One thing I like most about badminton is that it keeps me active and helps me stay healthy while having fun. I also enjoy playing with friends because we cheer each other on and learn from our mistakes together. Sometimes I get frustrated when I miss a shot, but I remind myself that every mistake helps me get better.

Dystopian Fiction- The Giver

The Giver

What did I do?

I learned about dystopian fiction by writing academic paragraphs and discussing topics related to the book

What did I learn?

I learned how to build my vocabulary, writing academic paragraphs, using transition words, and collaborative discussions.

What worked?

The summary paragraphs worked because they are long and also very specific and detailed examples from the book. This really help me understand the plot of the book. Here is a photo of my work.

What did not work?

I can improve on the comonlit assignment because I don’t know we have homework and I don’t like to check so I need to do it again.

Personal Relevance

I think this unit I did pretty good and this book will let me enjoy my life more because the community in the book has too many rules, living won’t even be fun. That is why there is something about release because it is so bad.

Roller Coaster L4 Lab and Model

https://padlet.com/saschina/rollercoaster-video-summatives-pd8rjo6cmvi4776/wish/L8KjW9qPzjllWJbv

In this unit, we wrote a lab report, built a rollercoaster model, took data, and also wrote a conclusion with CER. CER means claim, evidence and reasons. We started by completing an investigation to determine the relationship between potential energy and height. We also make a video similar to our lab report and the link is attached to the top.

Unit II – Ötzi Unit Reflection

What did I work on?

I worked on the Ötzi mock trail and the Ötzi cer paragraphs. A cer paragraph is claim, evidence and reasoning. Here is an example of my Ötzi cer paragraph. We also learned how to ask open and closed questions. At the mock trial, I was the lawyer on the defense team. Our claim is that Ötzi was not murdered. An open question is a question that needs you to answer it without only saying yes or no. A closed-ended question is a question that you only answer with yes or no.

What did I learn?

I learned how to be a lawyer in the trial and whether Ötzi was murdered or not. We also learned why we should care about the past. Caring about the past is very important because you won’t make the same mistake people made in the past and also learn from history. We also learned how to write a CER paragraph which is very important in the future.

What worked well?

One thing that worked well in this unit is the mock trial. I found the mock trial very interesting and, I was the defense lawyer, and a lawyer is not that hard. I think I am better at asking questions instead of answering questions. At first, I thought Ötzi was murdered but after the trial, also after asking so many questions and so many answers, I think Ötzi was not murdered.

What did not work?

One thing that didn’t work well is uploading the cer paragraphs. Every time I upload it, it shows a lot of codes but not my paragraph. At last, I noticed that I didn’t download it but instead I just dragged it on my desktop. One thing that also didn’t work is the part when we needed to write the questions to ask the witnesses. My parter talked too much so I didn’t have that much time to finish it, but I still finished it at home.

Personal Relevance

The three Ps of collaboration in 6th grade. Pausing, putting ideas on the table, and paying attention. Pausing means pause for a sec and think about what you are about to say. Is it hurtful, not meaningful, or is it useful. It can also mean stopping speaking when others are speaking. Putting Ideas in the table means sharing ideas with others or with your group. Paying attention means listening carefully and not interrupting others when they are speaking. Overall, I think I achieved the first two of the three Ps but I need to improve on the third one. I think I did a good job.

Soccer Reflection

What did I learn?

I learned how to dribble a ball and I learned about being a goalie and how to shoot.

What helped?

I learned this by dribbing a ball around the cones and then also learned about handball. We catch the ball and we can’t move and then we pass it to your teamates, this can inprove our soccer skills.

What is something you are proud of?

i am very proud of my soccer skills because I am very good at being a goalie ans also very good at dribbling and also attacking.

I can work on shooting a little bit more and also being a goalie because I still didn’t shoot or save some balls.

Egg Car

https://saschina-my.sharepoint.com/personal/melissa_kirwin_saschina_org/_layouts/15/stream.aspx?id=%2Fpersonal%2Fmelissa%5Fkirwin%5Fsaschina%5Forg%2FDocuments%2FB1%20Egg%20Car%20Videos%2FIMG%5F0256%2Emov&referrer=StreamWebApp%2EWeb&referrerScenario=AddressBarCopied%2Eview%2Eb98f5c1c%2Dfd0a%2D45a1%2D83f9%2Dfaee75b4d7a0

What did I do?

I built a egg car and the goal is to build a car that can protect the egg from cracking and also falling out of the car.

What did I learn?

Newton’s first law of inertia, an object at rest tense to stay at rest and an object at motion tense to stay at motion unless an unbalanced force is acted upon it. This law is seen in the real life when the egg car hit the concret brick and the egg will fly out because it wants to keep going.

What worked?

We made a crumble zone and at last it did crumble and it worked fine. We also made air bags. We made it by ripping the papers and then put it in a pillow-like container. We made this design of car by the inspiration by Gru’s car. In the minions movie, Gru has a similar car with a sharp horn in front to it.

What did not work?

One thing that did not work is the crumble zone. We made the crumble zone too short and it did not disolve the force so the egg cracked. At first, we want to make the crumble zone longer but we don’t have enough paper. One thing that also didn’t work is the airbags. It didn’t really affect the car crush so next time we can maybe consider making a longer crumble zone and don’t make air bags.

Personal Relevance

I think I did good on this project because overall our egg just had a little crack so it is not that bad. This experiment is also very amazing because it is very satisfying to see the egg crack and it is also very fun to build the egg car. Overall, I think we suceed in this challenge.

Science Ballon Car

What did I Do?

The balloon cart was built using wheels, plates, and a ballon. We used it to learn about the three newton laws. We also drew a rollercoaster and labbled all the laws and what is the use of the laws on a rollercoaster.

What did I learn?

Newton’s first law says the law of inertia. We see this law in action with the balloon car when the air from the ballon makes the cart go. Newton’s second law is the law of acceleration. We see this law in action with the balloon car when the heavier the weight the ballon cart is holding, the balloon car will go slower and shorter. Newton’s second law says the law of action reaction. We see this law in action with the balloon car when the air let out in the opsite side and the balloon will go to the oppisite where the air is let out.

What worked?

The ballon rollercoaster went well because the ballon cart went straight and the difference when we put more washers on it is very clear that the speed and distances slowed down.

What did not work?

For a few times, the ballon went straight to the sofa so we had to measure it again. It was a struggle when the measuring wheel didn’t work but we soon figured out that we used the wrong side.

Personal Relevance

The ballon car was amazing in the real world because it related to the newton’s third law and I didn’t think it will work! I see Newton’s third law when you bounce on a trampoline, or your car crashed on a wall and the car bounced back. I see Newton’s second law in real life when you add more mass on your ballon car but the ballon car still moves with the same force. I also see Newton’s first law of inertia in real life when there is a car crash and a person didn’t wear his/her seatbelt and flew out the car from the front window. These laws are important because it helps people know what to do to keep safe.

Unit two reflection-Puberty unit

It is important to understand puberty because everybody gets puberty and you need to know what do you need to do when the changes started happening.

If you learn puberty, you will know stuff that you don’t know and you won’t get scared to death. You will learn what is appropriate and know what is going on your body. You will know if the information online appropriate by looking at the images and you will know if it is gross or not. You can find links on schoology or links your health teacher gives you.

Here is an example of puberty:

year 7 year 19

You will feel concerned when you get your period or when you smells. You will feel confident after you learned about puberty and you know what is happening to your body.

I will want to remember all the scientific words of your body parts because I can’t remember them.

Swimming Reflection

I learned how to use a snorkel. I also learned how to use flippers to improve my swimming skills

I did good on every swimming skills and I think jumping into the water is really fun for me. I enjoyed playing in my free time after each swimming classes. You might notice how your breath changes as you push through the water, how your arms and legs work together to move you forward, and how steady practice helps you get a little faster each day.

Unit 1 – Campaign for the Olympics Reflection

What did I work on?

I worked on the Olympic flag and my partner (Andrea) worked on the introduction for the Olympic presentation. We made a presentation about why Harbin is perfect to host the winter Olympic games.

What did I learn?

I learned about Harbin’s climate and food. We made a presentation with criteria of climate, Food, Geography, and Transportation. We researched on Britannica, culture grams, and our world in data.

What works?

The criterion of food works because food in Harbin is very unique, so you won’t have to say something again and you have a lot to write/say. It is also very easy because I have dialogy classes that is expetialy for speeking.

What didn’t work?

I don’t think the criterion of climate works because climate is just one simple thing and doesn’t need to be a criterion. That is why sometimes I repeated information or said something similar. 🙁

Personal relevance

I think the presentation still went really well but it was just some people laughing when Andrea said something weird. They are just so unrespectful. But others went really well although I got a meeting because I didn’t memorize the speech.

This is my olympic logo that I created.
