Unit 2 Reflection & Semester Check-In

Part 1: Unit 2 Topic A and B Test Reflection (Functions & Statistics)

A. Evidence of Your Best Thinking

Select two questions from your Unit 2 test that best show your thinking.

  1. I chose Question __5___ as evidence of my best thinking because I think that I was able to understand the question and I tried my best to describe the the association of the graph.
  1. I chose Question ___3__ as evidence of my best thinking because I think that I was able to write down all my steps and write down all of my thinking process, which is why I think that I did well on this question.

B. Skills Reflection

Complete each sentence honestly and thoughtfully.

  1. Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at statistics because I think that before I even learnt this unit, I didn’t even know what to do, and after this unit even though I still struggle sometimes, I think that I improved a lot.
  1. One skill from this unit that I still need to work on is statistics because, like I said even though I didn’t do so well at the summative, I think that even thought I learnt this without learning it outside of school I still understand the basic of this section of the unit.
  1. The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was trying to understand word problems because I usually only do equations so I sometimes struggle with doing word problems.
  1. One strategy that helped me on this test was writing out the steps so that I can recheck my work and try to reduce as much mistakes as possible.

Part 2: Goal Reflection & End-of-Semester Check-In

A. Looking Back at Your Last Goal

Last unit, you set this goal:My goal is to try to understand all the things that we learnt and also the things that I said that I had a hard time to understand. Some things that could get in the way is me being too lazy to try to review and also listening to the lesson and not asking questions and I feel like I need to review the things that we learned and I also need to try to review or task myself with harder questions.

  1. How well did you work toward this goal?
☐ Very well ☐ Somewhat ☐ I struggled with this
  1. What helped you make progress toward this goal? I think that I tried to review more at home and now, even though my math results might not be good, I think that my progress towards it is getting better.
  1. What got in the way of this goal (if anything)? Probably, being lazy and thinking that I don’t need to review, but now I think that I tried to review every time before a test.

B. End-of-Semester Self Reflection

  1. List three strengths you have shown last semester: Submitting my homework on time, trying my best in math classes, and progressively trying to work hard.
  1. List three areas you still want to improve: Understanding the unit better, not making silly mistakes like forgetting to write the units and continue to keep on trying to review each time a test comes.

C. New Academic Goal Moving Forward

  1. In the next unit I want to understanding the unit better, not making silly mistakes like forgetting to write the units and continue to keep on trying to review each time a test comes. In the next unit, I just want to work on the things that I’m lacking right now.
  1. What might get in the way of this goal being lazy and procrastinating my homework thinking that I don’t need to review.
  1. What will I do if I get stuck or need help? I will try to ask my tutor or my teacher or ask my sibling since they understand math really well.

Designing a Story Problem (Piecewise Function Project)

My story was about Bob wanting to open a pizza shop but he encountered a lot of problems for example, trying to offered the land, materials and ingredients to make his pizza shop popular. He encountered a lot of problems such as a hole in his roof and trying calculate the total of money he had.

the part of the project that I was the most proud of was probably counting the price of all the materials because for me it was really fun and I just really enjoyed calculating it making it seem more realistic.

The hardest part of probably trying to create a graph for the situation because I felt that it was super hard for me to find the write scale and also thinking of a problem so that there would be a decrease in his income.

I think that me and my partner did our best and I wouldn’t really change anything because I felt we tried our hardest to make this story sound as realistic as possible.

It helped me understand the different intervals, ranges, and slopes. I think this project was really fun for me and I wouldn’t find doing it again.

First Semester (Health)

Unit 3 was my favourite unit because we had more freedom what we could do because, it wasn’t just specifically about one aspects and we could do it about any relationship. For this unit, I did my relationship about Peter Parker and MJ because I wanted to focus on a healthy relationship and why was the relationship healthy even though Peter was hiding secrets from MJ.

Overall, I really enjoyed Health Class because we learned about different things that was very new to me and it taught me things that I didn’t know about. When I learnt how our society portraits specific things and how our body does things that we weren’t sure why, I was shocked to learn that and now, when I’m presenting or sharing a project, I try to stay calm because now I just know that it’s the FFF response and I could just stay calm when I take deep breathes. In the future, I hope I can learn new things that relate to health because it interest me how there are so much things about our body that we don’t really know or understand.

Mixed Media Self-Portrait

Audience Insight:

When the audience sees my canvas, I want them to imagine a very calm atmosphere and when they look carefully into the canvas, they can see things that I enjoy or a part of me. For example, when you look at my canvas from far, you can see a very yellow orange college, but when you look closer, you can see badminton, brown eyes, Malaysia flag, food, and a candle. Some of these symbols are the things that I enjoy doing or eating, while some of the symbols are just things that show who I am.

Risk and Experimentation:

For me, it was very hard for me to choose my image of myself, and I kinda of drafted my canvas when I chose my past image, so I had to adapt the change the style of the whole thing. However, at the end I really enjoyed my final product and I think that it looked better than I imagined. I think that I did really well on expressing who I am with this canvas and also including symbols that show what I like.

Unit Reflection (Soccer, Invasion games, Water Polo)

In the swimming unit, I felt that I tried my best while swimming and I also tried to be active while we played the games. I tried to touch the ball be a team player while being active. But I also feel like that I need to be MORE MORE MORE active while playing Water Polo.

In Soccer unit, I think that I didn’t really run but me and my buddy were mostly the goalie and we did our best to block the ball. In Invasion games, me and my buddy tried our best to run the fastest and tried to score a lot of points, and also catch/ touch the ball as much as possible.

Unit 2 Health Reflection

I used to think that mental health was just a disorder and it was really hard to get treatment and I kinda only knew there was different types of mental health and didn’t really know the details. I made the assumption that they were really hard to get treatment and I didn’t know that there was more treatment than just seeing the therapist, and that there were specific types of medications that you could take or just talking to other family members.

But now I think that you aren’t just born with mental health and a person can just adapt with mental health without their choice. Some new information that I learned is that I didn’t know that eating disorder could meant that your eating too much or your eating too less and some people would do really crazy things just to be skinny, like forcefully vomit or take a ton of medications.

One new vocabulary that I learned to “stigma”, I learnt that stigma what everyone thought a disorder was or what a diseases was like a stereotype when the actual person with a disability actually suffers a lot. Another thing that I learned is that in many movies people think that people without OCD are just people who need things to be perfect and people make a joke that “i have OCD” when people who actually have OCD don’t want it because it wastes a lot of their time and they always worry about the same things again and again without their choice.

In conclusion, I think that I learned a lot from this unit because there was a lot of things that I didn’t know and now I know. Like, people with this diseases actually suffer a lot, while people think that their just born with them while they actually adapt them throughout their lives, and they don’t have the choice wether they want to have this or want to do this. In addition, media and other TV shows have a lot of impact on them because it makes them feel different while we can help, cope, support them.

Art Kool Koor Reflection

1. Cultural Influence on Aesthetic Choices
After meeting Kool Koor and learning about his artistic journey, how do you think his background in the graffiti culture of the Bronx influenced his aesthetic choices in the techniques and styles he demonstrated?

I feel like his background influenced his choices and techniques a lot because at first he did a lot of thick and different colors artwork then soon he had a lot of smooth strokes with a lot of color that worked together AND included a lot of his DNA into his recent artwork. In past artwork, he didn’t really include a lot of his DNA and he was more of a newbie, like he didn’t really use his DNA and he acted more like it was a toy and he did a lot of sharp and quick fast artworks. In his past artworks, he has more sharp edges but now he has more smooth lines with but still has some type of color contrast. In the 80s Bronx Graffiti Scene, it first showed a sharp and quick art piece that evolved into his artworks now, but his more recent artwork is more a smooth lines but there is a sharp contrast and different types of colors.

2. Environmental Impact on Art Creation
Considering Kool Koor’s shift from street art to studio work, how do you think different environments (like the streets versus a classroom) impact an artist’s creative process and choices? In what ways did you feel these environmental influences while trying out his painting style?

I feel like the environment impacted or influenced his artwork a lot because when he was doing graffiti, there was a lot of past and sharp and contrasted artwork, while his artwork (in the studio) has more of a calm environment and he included a lot of smooth strokes and a lot of color that matched together, WITH HIS DNA! At first his artworks we’re in different environments usually in the streets, but now his artwork is more on canvas and he doesnt has as much rush as last time, since it isn’t on streets anymore.

3. Personal Reflection on Aesthetic Development
What aspects of your culture or environment do you think will influence your future artistic choices for your self-portrait mixed media artwork? How can you incorporate elements from your own background into your artwork to express your unique identity?

I feel like more of my culture will impact my artwork because I will include some shapes or colors that matches my culture. I also feel like I will include some of the colors that interest me or the colors/ texture/ shapes that kinda of represent who I am. Like waves or other shapes that looks like something I would draw or something that makes me feel like I have a connection to.

Semester 1 Active Learner Reflection

My current goal is still trying to put a lot of effort into my homework and work harder for formatives and summatives. I also want to try to read more comments and reflect on my past work to do better next time. I think that I’ve made a bit progress towards my goal because I think that I did quite good in recent assessments.

I am most proud of projects like the Meteorite and Meteoroid projects because I put a lot of effort into it and I really liked color and doing projects. I think that the biggest challenge in science class in probably trying to get the 3 for 3 right because I feel like I over complicate things and I overthink questions when it’s super straight forward. I think that in science class I need to answer or ask more questions when I need to but other than that, I felt like I have been positive in science class and showed good active learner.

Unit 1 Reflection and Goal Setting

Reflection and Goal Setting

Throughout this unit, I improved the most at the transformations because I think that I understand it clearly now and before this unit, I didn’t even understand what this unit was about and I knew nothing about translations.

I feel that I still need to work on trying to identify triangles and also the angles and sides because I’m still a little confused about it and it was very hard for me to understand the question when I encountered really confusing ones.

I feel like my strengths so far this year is probably doing transformation because I understand it a lot and I feel confident doing it. Which means doing rotations, dilations, translations and rotations.

I feel like something that I need to improve is trying to identify the angles and sides which become SAS, ASA, SSA…etc. Because, when I encounter these questions I felt like I need more help with it to understand it and I felt like in the test, I had hard time understanding the questions.

My goal is to try to understand all the things that we learnt and also the things that I said that I had a hard time to understand. Some things that could get in the way is me being too lazy to try to review and also listening to the lesson and not asking questions and I feel like I need to review the things that we learned and I also need to try to review or task myself with harder questions.

Unit 1 Celebration of Learning

I chose question 3 as evidence of my best thinking because it shows that I wrote down all the steps and I also used the right vocabulary.

I chose question 1 as evidence of my best thinking because I wrote down steps too and I also double checked, and I also tried to sketch the shape on the graph to double check myself.

Sticker project

I liked drawing out the sticker and also almost everything about the project because I felt like it was just a okay project and I understood the goal. I wished that we could have less time because I felt like we had too much time and I added a lot of things that I didn’t need to, to complete the requirement.
