Ötzi Unit Reflection

What did I work on?

In this unit I worked on the prehistoric iceman Ötzi, we did a mock trial, and we had to say if Ötzi was murdered or not, I was a reporter. What I had to do was to report what they were saying and write it into an article and we also worked on the open and closed sentences.

What did I Learn?

I learned about a 5300-year-old well-preserved mummy called Ötzi; I know that he had a lot of health issues and diseases, for example Lyme disease, Peptic ulcers, and bad teeth which caused him to have heart attacks, also we learned how to use open and closed sentences.

What Worked Well?

What worked well was that my article was very good and I had a lot of time to finish the article, and I wrote enough and the article was very clear. Also, the pictures that I took in the mock trial were very clear and can be used, and I had good text and information for my article.

What did not work?

What did not work was that in my article the picture of Ötzi was blurry. Also the pictures that I took most of them had other random people’s faces in the pictures. And I had a bit to much same pictures which makes the pictures all the same.

Personal Reverence

I practice how to report stuff, it will help me get more information. And is a very important role. It’s important for my future for when I’m writing an article I can go interview people that can know the subject a lot.

Egg car challenge

What did I do?

Me and my class did the egg car challenge, what we had to do was keep the egg in the car safe and not cracked after a ramp, we had the materials: tape, wheels, straw, and 3 sheet of paper, me and Fiona first we made the base which was a long paper, after we cut the straw to two small pieces and put it to the tires, after we use tape to stick it to the paper, after, we made a cylinder and put the egg in it and lastly, we added crumple zones.

What did I learn?

I learned Newton’s laws, for example when the egg car stops the egg in it doesn’t want to stop so it would fly out, but if we add a crumple zone then it would make the crash smaller, I also learned that if the car is moving then the friction force is smaller and the applied force is more.

What worked?

What worked was that the egg only cracked a little bit, also the speed worked our egg car was very fast which we achieved our goal on speed, also the wheels we removed the rubber thing which helped on the speed but also fixed the problem that the egg car would just stay at the top or stop in the middle and other problems.

What did not work?

What did not work was that our base was to light which is a problem because the washer and the egg would make it collapse, so the egg would crack a little bit, also our crumple zone was not good which didn’t help that much on the stop.

Personal relevance

I now know that we should add crumple zones and a good and strong base but as well as a good wheel because wheel can help on moving, but we also need to add airbags and seatbelts, I like this egg car challenge a lot.

Balloon Cart challenge

What did I do?

I did the balloon cart challenge where we use a balloon, 4 pairs of wheels, 2 straws, tape, and a plate, and we did tournaments of who’s balloon cart was built better and could go the farthest, but me and Jayden got cooked at the second round because the air was not enough and plus the air was coming out of the balloon which stopped at half.

What did I learn?

We learn about Newtons first, second, and third law, the first law was about an object that wants to stay at rest unless acted by something, Newtons second law is the law of acceleration, which is F=MA (Mass), Newtons third law is about a action reaction for example, when a car is moving the applied force is way more than the friction force but the gravitational force and the normal force remains the same.

What worked?

What worked was that after learning Newtons third law and second law me and Jayden changed our balloon cart we changed the small paper straw to a big plastic straw it helped a lot because we could put more air and the air wont come out that much, but after we started to add weights which is starting to short the length but it still go far.

What did not work?

What did not work was that when we started to add weight the length that it used to go shortened like 20 percent so me and Jayden are still trying to let it go farther even with 6 washers.

Personal Refrence

The balloon cart was like a real car in the real world.

I see Newton’s third law when in real life when I see a car moving

It is important to know these Laws because it helps people know what will happen if they see cars or even stuff in life.
