Health Portfolio Reflection Unit 1 (The addiction to the loss of sleep)

Some safety behaviors that I think are most important to me are to avoid strangers texting to me because I don’t feel safe under that kind of uncomfortable talking or conversation going on when strangers try to talk to me.

Some of my trusted adults in my life are my mom, my dad, my grandparents, and finally the school counselors. I think the social media and technology impact teens the most in my opinion by distracting them from work by those videos or posts that maybe leads to addiction. Some strategies that I could use to protect myself online is to delete the people trying to add me online, not to always look at videos, also not posting videos or other things that might expose my personal information. The biggest takeaway I had is that of all the hidden dangers online, also the bad things that might happen when you get overaddicted to videos or other things online.

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was the defense lawyer
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because the past could teach us a lot of things, such as how neolithic men, of course being resourceful lived. From hunting for food to growing crops, from creating clothes to making tools and even medicine from nature to cure diseases. Sometimes we could find astonishing things of conflicts and diseases that are very similar, or even the same to us.
  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work on my closed questions in the cross examination, the opening statement I delivered, and how I gathered information about Otzi.
  1. I am proud of the work above because I think I delivered all my questions well in the cross examination and being clear on the opening statement of what my team wants to prove, I am proud of how I gathered information of Otzi because I was able to find the most important evidence when I gathered information to prove that Otzi didn’t die because of the arrowhead.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, such as working out what questions I should ask that could prove how the arrowhead didn’t cause much damage to Otzi, also, trying to let the expert witness answer my question in way that I thought they would is such a challenging job! At last, though writing down the notes were easy, but trying to listen to the lawyer and the expert witness was hard since they were kiind of mumbling in some groups, which made it kind of like a hard time for me.

b.I found the work above challenging because it was hard for me to think of more questions and also predicting the answers of the expert witnesses. Trying to let the expert witness answer my question in the way that I thought they would is such a challenging job because they are on the other side, so that it wouldn’t be as easy for me to lead the words of admitting how the arrowhead didn’t really hurt Otzi. At last, though writing down the notes were easy, but trying to listen to the lawyer and the expert witness was hard since they were kiind of mumbling in some groups, which made it kind of like a hard listening time to me.

  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because it would be included anywhere in my normal life, sometimes it might be as easy as letting somebody do something for you, other times it might be in more serious things happening in life, so to me, its really much a kind of life skill.

Egg cars reflection

What did I do?

We made a car that could save the egg from cracking when it bumps into the concrete block.

What did I learn?

We dug further into newton’s 1st and 3rd laws, seeing it on the egg car challenge. Newton’s first law applied when the car bumped onto the concrete while moving in an equal speed down the ramp, according to newtons first law, an object that is moving won’t stop moving unless stopped by an unbalanced force, and that force applied to the car is enough to make the fragile egg crack, making it our job to stop the egg cracking while the car bumps onto concrete. Newton’s 3rd law also applies when the egg car bumps onto concrete because of the equal and opposite force applied onto the car again.

What worked well?

The crumple zone worked pretty well, and kind of stopped most of the force, and the teamwork between me and Ysabel was pretty well, as we had the same design ideas, and each agreed on some new ideas we had. We had to work really well as a team and getting clear jobs for each person in order for us to finish the cart in time.

What did not work?

Something that we struggled with is about the the paper we had leftover, we didn’t know where to put it at, so we had small disagreements, and because of that, we didn’t have enough time to improve all we could of the car. We tried to solve this problem, using the last minutes to build anything we could with the car, but that kind of problem solving solution, of course, wouldn’t be as effective or as well-planned as the kind of plan that we both had, so the finishing steps hadn’t been done so well.

Personal Revelance

I see what the egg cars apply to in real life, like seeing the airbags for safety on the car I’m in. The egg car investigation helped me learn both of newton’s laws and how, in the normal world the car could protect us from deaths if it bumped onto something.

Balloon Car with Newton’s Laws (1,2,3)

What did I do?

The balloon car we made helped us dig in into Newton’s laws, learning them not just on paper, but in real life. The balloon car we made used materials like the balloon, small car tires, and carboard pieces, we also used hot glue or tape to make them stick together. We used the balloon car to mostly investigate Newton’s first law.

What did I learn?

We learned how to identify the forces throughout the movement of the balloon car, Newton’s first law, an object that stays or rests in motion will not change unless an unbalanced force is applied to it. This also makes sense in the balloon car investigation because it is the air in the balloon that is creating the unbalanced force that makes the object, which is the balloon car move in a direction. The second law, F=ma (Force= mass times acceleration) applies to this investigation because it helps me identify how the weight of the car affects how the balloon is pushing it and how far it travels. The third law, every action has an equal and opposite reaction accures in this question because the balloon car is moving, which is an action, also, the friction is an opposite reaction as well as the

What worked?

I think what worked well was my collaboration with my partner because we agreed on the same idea just when the time started and we worked on different things that was just what was needed for the cart. I and my partner also collaborated pretty well during the tests, collecting the data from the different weights on the car and how far the car moves. At last, we decided on which rule this car we built (When it moves) applies most to.

What didn’t work?

The thing we struggled with the most is about putting all of the parts together at last and trying not to pull the particles apart when we move the cart. Another thing we struggled with is with the tape we used to stick the balloon on the car. It wasn’t that sticky enough to hold the balloon and the straw onto the cart, which is a real problem since we can’t control where the balloon is shooting air from that much, and the almost falling off tape doesn’t help.

Personal revalence:

The balloon car experiment helped me with knowing Newton’s three laws better, experimenting in the real world. This helps as the most common fact that we should know and could also help us in actual life. With this, it would be faster &even easier to help us learn more knowledge for the future.

Creative writing reflection

What are we doing? Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me

What are we learning?

Theme(My purpose for writing this story, my message for readers)

Character Development (Creating believable characters with positive &negative traits)

Whats working? The elements of my story that I am proud of is how I described the princess killing Kaelis because of his arrogance and his direspect towards her

Areas for growth : I think my whole story is more of being written in a rush, so in a lot of parts, the characters are not described well, as well as their actions and how they are plotting against people in the story. Also, in some times, because it is written too quick, without a lot of detail, the story doesn’t make as much sense as the storys that are plotted out and written carefully.

Personal Relevance: I think that writing creative stories in life, though its not going to help that much, its still good for releasing out your imagination about things, and still good for your writing .

Critical Thinking with Gravitrax and Indicars

What did I do?

Critical thinking played an important role during the journey of playing with the Indicars and Gravitrax, I also think that this journey, from nothing to finally coming up with something though not astonishing, but containing all our hard work. We have faced struggles during this, which also tested us on how well we could collaborate together, a lot of times, when we face hard challenges, we need to bond up together and test out a way that might make something that did not work work, which also let us improve in our critical thinking skills, helping us perservere challenges throughout the activity.

What did I learn?

Now that I’ve been through the whole activity, I’ve had a new view about critical thinking. Critical thinking is how we think about something to do and decide on the most likely choice.

What worked?

What I think worked is after lots of times of trying, we finally came up with some ideas that are truly useful for our work, and a lot of times, what we thought, using Critical thinking is mostly right throughout the activity.

What did not work?

Sometimes, when we do the Indicars, we have met difficulties remembering about the colors and sides the Indicar goes.

Personal relevance:

I and the whole team had to think critically during the time when we did the Gravitax marble run, some of the time, it didn’t work when we tried to put the runway on the places to connect, or sometimes, it didn’t even work at all, even though we thought that it was the piece most likely to fit between the pieces. It’s sometimes like life, though with some problems but could get fixed. Critical thinking is also an important part to solving problems in life.

Unit 1 Olympic Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, Campaign for the Olympics, I worked on a presentation about why my country should be chosen to host the 2032 Olympic games in Paris, France, we learnt about the history of the Olympic games. We worked on researching our country by using the SAS Databases and locating evidence about our country. We worked on using persuasive reasoning to convince the IOC to select our country to host the next Olympic games. I created a script and a PPT using images from the SAS Databases and worked on practicing my script out loud and I used notecards.
  1. What did I learn? Why do global sporting events exist?

a.Global sporting events exist to

I: Unite different countries around the world

II: Rank the country’s athletic performances

III: Update sporting achievements

IV: Entertain people

V: Increase economy

VI: Positively collaborate

VII: Showcase new sports

  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of these things; how I wrote my persuasive sentences on my pitch and persuade, and the Olympic logo I designed
  1. I am proud of these above because I have never really designed any “logo” yet, which is a very new experience also using the AI Flint to help me. I am also proud of my Pitch and Persuade project because it includes a lot of persuasive language and fully explains all of my idea
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some things challenging, and the thing I found challenging is how I need to memorize the things I wrote in my pitch and persuade, which means I didn’t practice enough
  1. I found these things above challenging because the time that I practiced is not long enough I couldn’t really memorize in my speech.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communication skills are important in my future because it would help me with a lot of things, including some of the more “Important things” I need collaboration skills to help me.

This is a photo of my work about my Olympic logo

Reading Fiction – Character Analysis

What are we doing? Reading Ramose and the wrath of Ra and determining important character traits

What are we learning? How to analyze character traits (Chararcter’s Actions, Dialogue, Thoughts, and other Character’s reactions)

Whats working? How I figured some of the most important character traits that the character has during the story and provide enough evidence.

Areas for growth I need to use stronger words for the traits I’m going to describe, and use more sophisticated character traits in my paragraph.

Personal Relevance: The trait that Ramose has — believing in someone too much easily, which is sometimes made to the word “guliable” is also a trait I have that is sometimes really bad in my life.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:
  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram

Take a look at the images below to find a few helpful tips for creating your posts and using the block editor:
