Reflection

Creative Learner

The concept of the creative learner emphasizes the importance of adaptability, curiosity, and innovation in the learning process. A creative learner actively engages with new ideas, approaches challenges with an open mind, and seeks out diverse perspectives. This learner thrives in environments that encourage exploration and experimentation, valuing the journey of discovery as much as the end result. In reflecting on my own experiences as a creative learner, I recognize the transformative power of collaboration. Engaging with peers in brainstorming sessions has often led to unexpected insights and solutions. The willingness to take risks and embrace failure has also been crucial; each misstep provides valuable lessons that refine my understanding and skills. Moreover, the integration of different disciplines enriches the learning experience. Drawing connections between seemingly unrelated fields often sparks innovative ideas and unique projects. As a creative learner, I strive to maintain a growth mindset, continuously seeking ways to improve and expand my knowledge.

Critical Thinker

The role of a critical thinker is fundamental in navigating the complexities of today’s information-rich world. Critical thinkers approach problems with a questioning mindset, rigorously analyzing information and evaluating arguments rather than accepting them at face value. This reflective process involves breaking down ideas, identifying biases, and assessing the credibility of sources. In my journey as a critical thinker, I’ve learned the importance of perspective-taking. By considering multiple viewpoints, I can better understand the nuances of an issue and make more informed decisions. Engaging in discussions with others, particularly those with differing opinions, has sharpened my analytical skills and expanded my knowledge base. Additionally, I recognize that critical thinking is not solely about skepticism; it also involves constructive reasoning. Formulating coherent arguments and supporting them with evidence is essential. The ability to synthesize information from various sources into a cohesive understanding is a hallmark of effective critical thinking. Moreover, self-reflection is vital. Regularly assessing my thought processes helps identify any cognitive biases that may influence my conclusions. Ultimately, cultivating critical thinking skills empowers me to make reasoned judgments, fostering a deeper engagement with the world and promoting informed citizenship in an increasingly complex society.

Resilient

Resilience is a vital quality that empowers individuals to navigate challenges and setbacks with strength and adaptability. As I reflect on my own experiences, I recognize that resilience is not merely about bouncing back from adversity but also about growing through it. Each challenge I’ve faced has taught me valuable lessons, shaping my character and influencing my perspective on life. One key aspect of resilience is maintaining a positive mindset. Embracing optimism allows me to see difficulties as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable obstacles. This shift in perspective encourages me to approach problems with creativity and determination, fostering a sense of agency over my circumstances. Support systems also play a crucial role in resilience. Whether through friends, family, or mentors, having a network of encouragement provides the emotional strength needed to persevere. Sharing experiences and seeking advice not only alleviates stress but also cultivates a sense of belonging. Furthermore, practicing self-care is essential for building resilience. Prioritizing mental and physical well-being equips me to face challenges more effectively. Ultimately, resilience is about embracing life’s uncertainties and learning to thrive amidst them. This ongoing journey of growth inspires me to approach the future with confidence and hope.

Skillful Communicator

Being a skillful communicator is essential in today’s interconnected world, where effective dialogue can bridge gaps and foster understanding. Reflecting on my own communication journey, I recognize that clarity, empathy, and active listening are fundamental components. Clarity is crucial; expressing ideas concisely and directly helps ensure that my message is understood. I strive to use language that is appropriate for my audience, avoiding jargon or overly complex terminology. This approach not only enhances comprehension but also engages listeners more effectively. Empathy plays a significant role in communication. By considering the emotions and perspectives of others, I can tailor my responses to resonate with them. This emotional intelligence builds trust and rapport, making conversations more meaningful and productive. Active listening is another key skill. It involves not just hearing words but truly understanding the underlying messages and feelings. By giving my full attention and asking clarifying questions, I demonstrate respect for the speaker and create a safe space for open dialogue. Moreover, adapting my communication style to different contexts, whether in formal presentations or casual conversations, enhances my effectiveness. Ultimately, being a skillful communicator is about fostering connections, sharing ideas, and promoting collaboration, which are essential for personal and professional success.

Collaborator

Collaboration is a cornerstone of effective teamwork and innovation, reflecting the ability to work harmoniously with others toward shared goals. As I reflect on my experiences as a collaborator, I recognize that successful collaboration hinges on open communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to embrace diverse perspectives. Open communication is vital in fostering an environment where team members feel valued and heard. I strive to create a space where everyone can contribute their ideas freely, enhancing creativity and problem-solving. By actively sharing thoughts and encouraging feedback, I help build a culture of trust and openness. Mutual respect is equally important. Acknowledging the strengths and contributions of each team member fosters a sense of belonging and enhances overall group dynamics. I’ve learned that appreciating diverse viewpoints not only enriches discussions but also leads to more robust solutions. Furthermore, adaptability is key in collaboration. Projects often evolve, requiring flexibility in roles and strategies. Being open to change and willing to compromise ensures that the team can navigate challenges effectively.

Task 2: Debate (60pts)

I stand firmly in support of the con position, arguing that procrastination can indeed be a catalyst for creativity and innovation.

Procrastination often results in a pressure-filled environment as deadlines loom. This pressure can serve as a powerful motivator, igniting bursts of creativity and innovation. When time is running out, individuals are pushed to think outside the box and come up with unique solutions. This phenomenon, known as “the creative rush,” is where some of the best ideas emerge under time constraints.

Procrastination allows for extended periods of subconscious processing. While it may seem like nothing is happening, our minds are constantly working in the background, refining and developing ideas. This incubation period can lead to more polished and creative outcomes once the task is finally addressed. The famous writer, Douglas Adams, once said, “I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.” This highlights how the pressure of an impending deadline can result in brilliant creative work.

In conclusion, while procrastination is often viewed negatively, it is essential to recognize its potential as a catalyst for creativity. The pressure of last-minute deadlines can spark new ideas, and some individuals perform their best work under such circumstances. Thus, we must not dismiss procrastination outright but rather understand its nuanced role in the creative process.

Takeaways: My key takeaway from this debate is that different people have different ways of studying. Some people just do everything and are done with their tasks, while others need to rest for a long time until they pick up their pen and write down their first word of the day.

Task 1: Practice a New Skill (60pts)

I love singing, and I learned how to sing the song “If I Ain’t Got You.”

I wanted to perform this song one day (which I did).

  • I learned some special techniques applied in this song, including breathing basics/support, articulation, and keeping an open mouth and throat.
  • The final product was interesting, and the performance was too.
  • One of the challenges I faced was a section of the song that was quite hard because the pitch is very high.
  • Anyway, I practiced for many days and eventually overcame the challenge.

Task 4: Thank You Card (15pts)

I want to write a gratitude card for my father

Gratitude card:

Hi Dad,

I have a lot to say to you. Thank you for your unwavering support since the start of my school career at SAS. I’ve learned so much from you. Whenever I feel lost in my growth, you guide me through my confusions and lead me to the right path.

I remember when you bought me a new computer after I begged you and my mom for months; Your thoughtful gestures, like buying my favorite food, sushi, always make me feel cared for and special. Thank you for supporting my hobbies, from collecting My Little Pony cards to indulging my interest in K-pop.

I am incredibly grateful for everything you do.

Critical Thinker

What’s going on with this picture?

In this picture, I can see six people, each likely from different racial backgrounds. A little girl is holding a microphone, suggesting she might want to sing a song. Everyone’s attention is focused on the television, which appears to be showing an animation. The weather seems hot and humid, as everyone is wearing minimal clothing, with some even shirtless.

Clarification

How might this AI-related goal connect to your current skills?

I depend too much on AI assistance tool, which my critical thinking skill got worse. I realized I need to stay away from AI tools and practise critical thinking skills.

Goal

Commitment

I will achieve my goal by

  1. Only use AI tool for brainstorming stage
  2. Avoid telling AI to generate entire passage of work
  3. Write my own script myself, then ask AI to help me improve the overall quality

Wise Global Citizen

Today I learned how to be a good communicator. Communication problems could lead to internal conflict between people. I know that my actions, both online and offline, affect my personal reputation as well as the representation of others, and the communities to which I belong. I should understand that techonology connects me to a larger community and realize that time spent on deviced should be balanced with face to face interaction that nurture my social-emotional well-being.

Middle School Reflection

• Middle School reflections: What do you wish you’d known?

I wish I’d know that procrastination is a bad habits. I came to SAS since 6th grade. My first year in SAS was really well in general. I made a lot of new friends, I worked hard in school, I hand in my homework on time, and I get a lot of 4’s (exceedings). However starting in 7th grade, things starts to change a little bit. I started to play mobile games, meaning that I can not dedicate all my time on school work anymore. In 7th grade, I started to procrastinate a lot. In the beggining, this was not a thing to me because there weren’t alot homework from 7th grade. However when I got into 8th grade, things started to get a bit overwhelming.

Your strengths and areas for improvement

In the aspects of academics, I wanted to improve my English in general. This is because I attended public school in 1 st grade. I came to international school since 2nd grade. Because I did not grew up in the so called “English Speaking” enviroment. Now still my English sucks. I always wonder whether that I just don’t have any talent in learning foreign language. This is real because, I always struggle with French and Spanish. Both languages are pretty similar in some ways, which I sometimes mix them up in class. In my growth as a person, i with I could improve on my efficiency in work time and become stronger as a person.

What are you looking forward to?

In High School, I am looking forward to see how I can improve as a person. In high school we get to have more freedom on the use of techonology. This can be good and bad for me in many ways. As I mentioned before I suffer from procrastination. SAS providing more freedom in the use of phone is dangerous for me. If i can not control my desire to touch the phone, I will probably fail in high school. Another things I am looking forward is how everyone else grow and do. High school is a special place. In elementary school and middle, you feel like everyone is the same because grades doesn’t matter that much. However when it comes to high school, GPA is important, and everyone one do their own stuff, preparing for college.
