Math Unit 2 Reflection & Semester Check-In

During Unit 2 of math, we studied linear equations and relationship. I chose questions 1 and 5 as evidence of my best thinking because I was able to explain my thinking and demonstrate my understanding. Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at understanding relationship. One skill from this unit that I still need to work on is interpreting slope and functions. The biggest challenge for me on this test was checking my answers and making sure that my answers were correct as well as showing my work. One strategy that helped me on this test was to include thorough explanations on the y-intercept and other vocabulary.

Last unit, I set the goal of turning in my work on time and making sure that it wasn’t overdue. I did very well on this goal and turned in all my work on time. Changing my organization system helped make progress towards this goal. Nothing got in the way of the goal, as changing the organization system made sure that I would turn in all my work on time. Last semester, I was prepared, actively participating and staying organized. I want to improve in the efficiency of my work, showing my work, and also learn to use the calculator better. In the next unit, I want to focus on making sure that I show all of my work. Things that might get in the way of this goal could be that I forget to show one part of the work. If I get stuck or need help, I will add reminders to try and make showing my work a habit.

Art Mixed Media Self Portrait Reflection

The key message about me that I want to convey with this artwork is my identity and interests, in which I communicated by adding multiple symbols and elements to my artwork to represent. There are multiple pieces of the mixed media portrait that reflect my identity, such as the four arrows representing constant change, which also is related to me moving a lot. I also communicated other interests and parts of my identity with other symbols, which I planned out before/in the early stages of making this artwork. The artwork was throughly planned out, with the only unplanned part being the background, which I created before making my self portrait digitally.

During the creation of my artwork, I experimented and took risks with the layout of the artwork, and the ways my symbols interacted with each other. These choices ultimately let me effectively express my intended message, as it would be difficult to improve my artwork if I just stuck with the first idea to everything. I also changed the layout multiple times after finishing my digital portrait and symbols, in order to find a way that all the elements would fit and interact in a way that made sense. In conclusion, I effectively expressed my key message about my identity and interests after experimentation and taking risks.

Art Kool Koor Workshop Reflection

In the workshop, we learnt about Kool Koor’s stylistic choices and we got to try out painting in his current style. We also watched two videos about his artistic journey, and took notes to write an analysis.

After meeting Kool Koor and learning about his artistic journey, I think that his background of graffiti impacted his current artworks as some of the shapes and values are still evident in his artworks to this day. Since a lot of graffiti has vibrant colors and values, that culture may have affected his current style, where vibrant colors are still included. His earlier works also included jagged shapes, which can be located in his current works. The culture of graffiti may have impacted his artistic choices, as similar traits from graffiti are still evident in the pieces he currently makes.

Considering Kool Koor’s shift from street art to studio work, I believe that the different environments may have impacted his artwork since street art is supposed to be created with speed, whereas when you are doing studio work, there is much more time that you can spend on a piece. Street art is usually temporary, when studio art may not. Many differences like these may impact an artist’s work, as these factors provide either limitations or advantages with an artist’s work, as well as impacting the audience that sees the work.

For my own mixed media self portrait, I think that I will incorporate aspects of my identity, by including things that I see on social media, as well as the media that I am used to seeing, as it shapes my artistic choices in my artworks, expressing my unique identity.

French Reflection: La Guerre des Jumeaux

During Unit one of french class, we read a short novel about a pair of twins not getting along. The twins keep disagreeing on simple things, but when their dog, Otto gets lost at the park, they have to learn to work together in order to save their family pet.

I felt as if this story was challenging but not too difficult at the same time. I was able to practice ahead of time, by planning out roughly what I was going to say, and then writing it down on my notebook for better memory. I also used Quizlet sets to enhance my vocabulary, by clicking learn, or starring key vocabulary to study them individually. I usually write the vocabulary down, as that technique works best for my personally.

For the activity, we explained the story by using illustrations in the story. It was challenging as I needed to prepare a lot before class. I received feedback to include more past tense, and I studied passé composé after the oral. I am proud of my preparation that I did ahead of time, and I think that I can use more complex sentences.

Social Studies Unit 1 Reflection

During unit 1 of social studies, I created a poster with research about a topic that I was interested in. I wrote 3 CERs (Claim evidence reasoning) about my topic and combined them to create an essay. I added the information to a poster, and added visuals. I am most proud of my research and how I managed my time, but I think I can improve on the reasoning part of my CER.

Math Unit 1 Transformations and Congruence COL

I choose question 4 as the question that shows my best work because I was able to demonstrate my understanding of how to describe lines of reflection. Although there is minimal explanation required in the question, I think it still shows how I am able to meet the standard.

I choose question 7b as another piece of evidence of my best thinking because it shows a lot of my thinking through thorough explanation. I also labeled line L on the picture to show the line of reflection.

Throughout this unit, I improved most at understanding rotations and how to rotate a shape around a certain point. In the beginning of the unit, I had minimal understanding of how to do rotations and at the end of the unit, I am able to successfully complete rotations independently, as well as locate the point of rotation.

I feel that I still need to work on my labeling of points on a shape and checking my work, because I mixed up the upper and lowercase letters in one of the questions. I can do this by checking over my work when I am finished and paying more attention when labeling.

Three of my strengths this year so far were being prepared, staying organized, and active learning. I would like to improve on efficiency, turning in work on time, and being more careful when solving problems.

In the next unit, I want to turn in my work on time and make sure that it is not overdue. This is important because this ensures that my teacher will have enough time to grade my work. However, I could forget about checking Schoology, which would get in the way of my goal since it might make my work overdue. If I get stuck on need help, I will add reminders and add the due dates to my notes.

Language Arts Unit 1: First Contact Reflection

During this unit, I learnt about the 8 main parts of speech and the ways they are used in a sentence. My task for the summative assessment of this unit is to teach an Ai bot of an alien the different parts of speech and correct grammar. I also studied prepositional phrases, which were also taught to my alien. Examples of different prepositional phrases included compound, complex, and both compound and complex. I learnt to identify what makes a sentence compound or complex, as well as how moving the preposition changes the structure of a sentence. Another part of what I had learnt in this unit was connotations and denotations, and how it changes what the audience will feel after reading the text. In the end, my alien was able to understand most of what I had taught it, but the final paragraph that it gave me was missing some parts of speech and could have been modified to be better. I annotated the paragraph the Ai generated three times, to check for parts of speech, prepositional phrases and connotations/denotations. Lastly, I was interviewed by the teacher.

In my opinion, the alien report for unit 1 first contact was the piece of work that showed most of my growth so far this year, since I was able to successfully teach my alien most of the parts of speech as well as sentence structure and shades of meaning.

Art Exhibition Reflection

At the exhibition, I was able to view many art pieces from different perspectives and angles. The different pieces of artwork reminded me of many different things, for example ‘The World’ reminded me of the world map and how different people view it differently. There also seemed to be a glowing sun in the middle of ‘The Waves’. The Paths to Modernity also reminded the people around me of history and geography, as well as how it affects the way that art can be spread around the world to different places. It also made me wonder what art would look like 150 years from now, and how art will change in the future.

I believe that the way that the curator organized the layout of the exhibition greatly impacts how people can understand the way that art has evolved over time, and the chronological order made the changes easier to understand. It made a lot of sense for paintings from the same time period to be placed together so that viewers can the change easily. It can also tell the viewers what kinds of art people were mainly making at that time.

In the art museum, I was able to watch videos and look at in depth analyses. These activities influenced my beliefs and experiences by changing my understanding on how art has changed over time. The exhibition also impacted my ideas of what art used to look like, and added to my understanding of what kinds of art were popular in different time periods.

PE Table Tennis U1 Reflection

This unit in PE, we learnt about how to grip a paddle, and the different rules of singles and doubles. We also focused on forehand and backhand strokes. Something I feel like I did well in this unit was collaborating with my partner. I feel like I can work more on not hitting the ball outside of the table because that was something I noticed that I had struggled on in this unit. Overall, this unit was very interesting and I learnt a lot of new skills.
