UNIT 2 COL/GOAL SETTING

Part 1: Unit 2 Topic A and B Test Reflection (Functions and Statistics)

A:
1. I chose question 1 as evidence of my best thinking because it shows my clear calculations for the question.

2. I chose question 6 as evidence of my best thing because I wrote a detailed explanation that showed my thinking.

B:

3. Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at calculating the linear function of a line.

4. One skill from this unit I still need to work on is understanding when a correlation coefficient is weak or strong.

5. The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was the critical thinking part because I wasn’t sure if my “instincts, what I remembered” were correct or not.
6. One strategy that helped me on this test was checking my work.

Part 2: Goal Reflection and End of Semester Check-in

A:

Last unit, my goal was to always double check my work.

12. I did somewhat – very well with my goal.

13. Reminding myself to check my work every time I finish something helped me make progress towards my goal.

14. Sometimes, laziness or time constraints got in the way of this goal.

B:

15: In this semester, I have shown strengths like active listening, good collaboration with peers, and always doing my homework.

16. Three areas that I still want to improve is having a more organized notebook, jotting down notes, and writing the learning target.

C:

17. In the next unit, I want to go for more exceedings.

18. Somethings that might get in the way of this goal not wanting to do it and not understanding how to do it.

19. If I need help, I can email the teacher or ask my parents.

Designing a Story Problem

  1. My story was about this person called Ryan, practicing his pickup lines and finally rizzing up the true sigma, Francis. It modeled the process of earning more aura then losing all of it.
  2. I was most proud of my CREATIVE story because it really showed what I have been saying lately.
  3. I think the hardest part about creating my piecewise function was typing all the calculations because it was really annoying.
  4. Something I could do differently next time is showing my answers in function notation, this way I could get exceeding for all three grades.
  5. This project helped me better understand how piecewise functions work, for example, each linear function is different for different places.

LA GUERRE DES JUMEAUX (ORAL)

In this unit, we had to read a short novel about two twins who have problems getting along. I think the short novel was a very good way to practice my vocabulary orally and in writing.

On quizlet, Ms. Inna made a set for us to practice the new words in the novel. I memorized the new words by first reading through the list of new words, then I use the match option to make sure I know all the words. This strategy works because matching is when there’s many different cards and I have to know what means what.

I needed to be able to use most of the words learned from the unit to retell the story using pictures. I prepared for it by first, at home making example sentences by myself. Then, reviewing on quizlet.

I think I did okay for the oral. The feedback was to read more fluently, not reading something. I think something I did good was being able to talk about something that makes sense at least.

Science: Semester 1 Active Learner Reflection

What are most proud of in this class so far?

I am proud of showing my deep understanding of what is taught in class through getting good grades on the assignments.

What has been your biggest challenge in this class?
My biggest challenge in this class is staying on task.

How have you demonstrated the qualities of an Active Learner?
I want to raise my hand more in class, but I am doing well on collaborating and staying positive.

Unit 1 Reflection and Goal Setting

  1. I chose question number 1, which asks you to describe a sequence of transformations for a shape as evidence of my best thinking because it shows that I understand how to use the rigid transformations.

2. I chose question number 8 which asks you to find the imposter triangle through mathematical evidence as evidence of my best thing because it shows that I understand when one triangle is missing a trait that the other triangles have.

3.    Throughout this unit, I improved the most at all the transformations.

4.    I feel that I still need to work on not making silly mistakes and determining if triangles can be proven congruent.

5.    This year my strengths are critical thinking, finishing assignments on time, and arriving in math class with what I need.

6.   I want to improve at making sure I understand the little details, checking my work precisely, and trying harder questions.

7. In the next unit, I want to aim for an exceeding on my project and unit assessment. I can do this by aiming to solve harder questions and getting out of my comfort zone. Some things that I might face are procrastination, not reading the prompt carefully, and not checking my work after I finish.

Unit 1: First Contact

Alien Paragraph: “In the vast landscape of interstellar communication, I—an alien researcher—explore human language with profound curiosity, transforming grammatical structures into bridges of understanding. My mission transcends literal translation: when I select a word like ‘connection’, it resonates beyond its dictionary definition, carrying emotional depths that pulse with lived experience. Simple sentences reveal fundamental truths, while compound and complex structures weave intricate narratives that demonstrate how precise language can illuminate the subtle spaces between thought and feeling. Nouns become vessels of cultural memory, verbs embody dynamic action, and carefully chosen modifiers paint emotional landscapes that shift tone from clinical observation to deep empathy. Through meticulous analysis, I decode not just the words humans speak, but the profound, unspoken meanings that dance between syllables, bridging the infinite cognitive distances between different conscious experiences.”

This is the paragraph that my flint ai alien was able to produce after teaching it the parts of speech, sentence structures, and connotation and denotation. In this first unit, I learned about how connotations and sentence structures affect a paragraph. For example, the connotation of ‘researcher’ in this alien paragraph means that the alien is peaceful, not coming to cause trouble. This lets us know that the alien is not here to cause any trouble.

PE Table Tennis Reflection

What we did in this unit:
We learned different ways to serve a ball and practiced back hand and fore hand hits. At the beginning, we practiced rally with each other, and then we played 1v1s. After that, we learned the rules about 2v2s, and played against each other.

What I did good:
I learned to smash the ball which helped me a lot when going against others. I also learned how to spin the ball when serving.

What I can improve:
Sometimes, I hit my backhand shot too far which causes it to go out and give the opponent a point. I can practice my rally with my friends using only backhand shots.

Probability Fair

My group created a game where you drop a ball through a course, and see which cup the ball falls in. If the ball falls into cups 1,4,5 then you get candy. If the ball falls into cup 2 then you get a squishy. If the ball falls into cup 3 then you get the grand prize, a Nintendo controller.

Advertisement:

We shared jobs making the course and advertisement. If there was any conflict, we would vote it out. The probability fair went very well because all of the prizes were taken, and the game went very well, a lot of people came to play. Something that we could improve on next time is making the course more aesthetic.

Our game:

Experimental probability:

Around 67% chance of losing

Around 8% to win cup 1

Around 6% to win cup 2

Around 2% to win cup 3

Around 12% to win cup 4

Around 8% to win cup 5

Social Studies Unit 4: Documentary

In this unit, I worked with Ethan to make a Documentary about Chernobyl, the nuclear disaster. First, we generated ideas about possible topics to do. After that, we agreed on a topic. Next, from lesson 5 – 8, we did research on our topic with a research graphic organizer that is separated by different topic parts like how did the event unfold, what was the impact on people in the future, etc. Then, we spent 4 lessons organizing the research into a script/writing. After that, we found photos for our documentary, and recorded the script. We put the video together with the photos and the recording then we got feedback from peers and edited.

Something I did well in this documentary is controlling the time of the documentary, in 6:00 minutes. Something I could do better is controlling the volume of my voice when recording because there were some parts that were louder and some parts that were softer.

Unit 5 Science Reflection

Part 1: In the hydrogen cycle, the water can start run offs that can bring nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen into the water for the algae to grow faster, which in long term can cause algal blooms. Algae and other aquatic plants use photosynthesis to take in oxygen and release oxygen. However, for algae, when they die, a special bacteria consumes the oxygen and creates a place with no oxygen. In the nitrogen cycle, there is fertilizer use which is the main cause of algal blooms.

When algal blooms happen, they can stop the energy in an ecosystem from flowing. For example, when algae die, they consume oxygen which can cause aquatic plants not to be able to do photosynthesis. Because of this, the first level of energy is stuck and won’t be transferred to the next level causing the whole ecosystem to be disturbed. Not only that, but the energy flow can be unbalanced because of too many producers. This is the same effect for cycling of matter.

Part 2: The carbon cycle game showed us where each type of thing would go after doing something. The ecosystem in a bottle project was like a miniature ecosystem. We could observe how the producer would help the primary consumer, the crickets, and how the carbon oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen cycles could work. The stations activity taught me about how the energy and matter cycled through, for example, I learned about each tropic level.

Part 3: I could spend more time reviewing the L2 quiz, especially the nitrogen part because I was unsure. This also caused me to not get a 4 on my summative because I was unsure about nitrogen. An improvement for the teacher could be choosing the correct kind of dirt.
