During this unit, I brainstormed about the art sketchbook cover and I actually made the cover from the brainstorm (but the cover is not finished yet). In the sketchbook cover, I drew things that could express my identity and things that I like such as music, art, flower, stars and more. I think doodling will express myself the best because by seeing this artwork, others will know the things that I like and things that I am interested at. When I was brainstorming some ideas, I made different draft and selected some drawings that I like the best and that will express myself the best in my final artwork.
Today I will write a reflection about science unit 2! During this unit, I learned about cell and body systems.
PART 1:
The essential question that I chose to answer is “How do our body systems work together when we play our favorite sport?”. And the answer to the essential questions is when people play volleyball, the muscular and skeletal system works together by muscles contract to pull on the bones to produce movements; mitochondria and nucleus provide energy and controls our body. Some activities such as station activity helped me to learn more things about human body systems and cells, and to answer the essential question. During the station activity, me and my table group did some experience such as watching cells in the microscope. I also learned that body is a system of subsystems made up of groups of cells by watching videos and do a worksheet. It is because the basic thing that makes the human body is cells. First, a cell in our body is animal cell, and the small little cells in animal cell are cell membrane, nucleus, lysosome, cytoplasm, ribosomes, rough ER, smooth ER, Golgi body, vacuole, and mitochondria. When the animal cells are combined, it makes tissue which are connective, epithelial, muscle, and nervous tissue. The tissues make subsystems, and the different subsystems make different systems which are integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, circulatory, immune, respiratory, and digestive system. And these systems make a human body, with different systems, starting from group of cells.
PART 2:
Stations Activities and self-directed notes was the most impactful or memorable for me as a learner. Because for stations activities, I learned more about the focused topic and some experience that helped me to stay on focus. For self-directed note, it helped me to memory the key words and the functions about the cells or body systems (what we learned during unit 2). Other activities such as dissections helped me to see what does lungs, heart, and other organs looks like but I had a hard time on staying on focus because it smelled so bad.
PART 3:
If I could improve one aspect of my learning in this unit as a whole, I will try to achieve an L3 initially without the need for resubmissions. This also includes the CER paragraph because sadly, I didn’t reached L3 for both CER paragraphs for having some small mistakes. Feedbacks help me a lot of what I need to add and to fix for meeting the standard. But if I meet the L3 initially without resubmitting it, I will also know my strength on my CER writing, and maybe I can try for an L4 in the next CER writing.
In this unit, I understand how to solve the percentages problem using different models such as double number line and tape diagram. Now I also understand to solve the problem that asks for percentage or number.
N: What new information did you learn in this unit?
Some new information that I learned during this unit is about different ways to solve percentages problem, actual way to solve problem using tape diagram and double number line, and to solve real-life problems.
I: What was interesting in this unit?
Something interesting to me during this unit is I found out that solving percentages problem using tape diagram is a pretty easy way to solve the problem to me.
T: What was tricky for you in this unit?
There was some tricky questions to me and it was “(number) is (number)% of what number?”. In the first it was tricky for me, but now I can solve the problem with correct answers.
During this unit, I learned about peer pressure, healthy decide model, and about different substances.
Peer Pressure
Peer pressure is like a feeling that others can give you to do things that is not really necessary. For a example, peer pressure can give you a feeling that you must need to do that thing that others had ask for or you will be excluded. It is sometimes hard to decide what to do so we made a decide model for a best decision.
DECIDE Model
For the final project, my table group and I made a healthy decide model about a scenario when an older sibling ask us to vape and tell us that it is not a big deal. We defined the problem and worked together to find the best decision for the scenario. We used some resources that our teacher had gave to us to show our best learning ability. We also had a another sheet of big paper to show more “consider the consequences”. In the consider the consequences section, we added some more informations about vape and how to quit vape. We also added a Q&A for answering questions that teens might have.
Effects about different substances
Alcohol, vape, drugs and other substances can cause a dangerous impact on our body. For teens, teens brain hadn’t been fully developed so it will impact more. Different Substances can cause bad addiction, so when we are keep using the substances, our brains will be less healthier and our body will be weaker.
In this unit, our class did artistic swimming. During artistic swimming, we learned to scull, flood, lift, jumps, etc. We learned a lot of things to make a best perform as possible. For the final performance, our team chose a song that is called “Gangnamstyle” and we moved with the beat.
In this unit, I understand the meaning of scaled copy, scale factor, and scale. I also understand to solve different questions about solving scale factor.
N: What new information did you learn in this unit?
In this unit, some new information that I learned was scaled copy, scale, and CER. Scaled copy was kind of familiar but scale and CER in math was totally new for me. For CER paragraph, I wrote it for science, language arts, and social studies, but it was brand new for math.
I: What was interesting in this unit?
Something that was interesting in this unit was solving some questions about scale factor. There was different ways to solve the scale factor and it was pretty interesting. And the proportionality relationships that I learned in unit 1 also helped me to find the scale factor more easier.
T: What was tricky for you in this unit?
Something that was tricky for me in this unit was solving scale and writing CER paragraph. For the first, it was tricky to solve the scale for the map, but I think I got it now. However for writing CER paragraph, it is still tricky to write the evidence and reasoning, Sometimes I’m confused to find the evidence, so I’m going to work on it.
During unit 1, we learned about nutritions and healthy habits that we should have. And in the end of this unit, we made a 3 day healthy plate and we did a project called Master Chef when a group of 2-3 (can be individual) makes a healthy food(s) which includes nutritions and things that includes in the Harvard Plate. So today, I will write a reflection about this unit!
Photo of the Harvard Plate👇🏻
When we are choosing a balanced meal, we can choose some factors from the Harvard Plate in the top. For an example we should have vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy protein. Also having macro and micronutrients like carbohydrates, protein, and fat will help you to have large amount and growth. And I will introduce more about the 3 day plate. During this mini-project I made a 3 day plate for a student which includes vegetables, whole grains, fruits, and healthy protein. The 3 day plate is here👇🏻
During this Master Chef project Eileen, Amy K, and I made a Korean style fruit punch called hwachae. We added bunch of fruits like watermelons, blueberry, dragon fruit, shine muscat. For the drink base we added strawberry milk and passion fruit syrup made by my mom:).
Today, I will write a health unit 2 reflection about influencers and online health informations in social media.
Before this unit, on online I used to think most of the health informations that the influencers gave us were mostly true. I didn’t look on any informations about the influencers, date, comments, and more to make sure if the influencer was giving us true informations or fake ones. And sometimes, I though the influencer’s video was true or not by their amount of subscribers.
But after this unit, now I think some of the health informations that the influencers give us might be fake informations. Some new strategies that I will use to determine if the health information is reliable is to go look on the informations about the influencer, dates, comments, product that the influencer uses is safe and reliable. These kind of things are part of the CRAAP test. The CRAAP ( currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, purpose) helps us to find true informations about the video. So, I will approach wellness influencers and online health content differently moving forward by using the CRAAP test. To add, I also learned that the information in the influencer’s video might be wrong still if they have a lot subscribers. So I think everyone and I also need to be careful about that part.
The final project👇🏻
(CRAAP test myth vs. fact)
Photo of the peer feedback👇🏻
Some relevant supporting resources that helped me is my health folder, and some researching websites helped me to have and learn more informations that we need.
Some of the feedbacks that I received during the first presentation was the feedback that says my voice was hard to listen and my fluency was not that good at all. So in the second presentation, I tried to make my voice more louder and I tried to say the presentation more fluently than the first presentation. However, I think my fluency on the second presentation was also bad as the first presentation because I didn’t said the words that clean so I will work more on my fluency in the future :).
1 thing that I am proud of from this unit is I think I did a great job of making my own soap brand and soap product. I also think I did a great job on sharing informations about my brand, connotations, words, and more during the presentation.
Things that I want to keep working on is my fluency and my voice level during the presentation. During the presentation, I think my fluency was not that good and in the feedback from others, it said my voice was not that loud enough.
The meaning of bias is a preference for or against a particular person or thing, and usually in a way that is unfair or without any reasons.
1 positive outcome of people having the same perspective is there might be no argument of who’s right and who’s wrong. The reason why is sometimes there might be different perspectives from different person or people.
1 negative outcome of people having the same perspective is there might be some argument of who’s right and who’s wrong. This is the opposite of the 1 positive outcome of people having the same perspective because sometimes there might be different perspectives because they could have different viewpoints.
