In this unit, we had to debate on the topic “Social Media does more good than harm”, and my team was on the pro side. We did very well on the introduction speeches, and went into the debate with a lot of preparation. However, even though we had a lot of information, I struggled with improvising on rebuttals, which is a huge part of debate, which is what I will be working on in future debates.
In this unit, we were given an AI generated story, and had to find mistakes and fix them. I successfully added on to the cliffhanger, and made the dialogues more detailed. What I could improve on is that I should try to have better pacing throughout the story, as the pacing was very uneven with the climax going by very fast.
In Math class this year, I noticed an improvement in my confidence as I started asking the teacher questions and participating more in class. I can compare this to last year in my old school, where I didn’t participate much in class and only asked questions to the people around me.
Another strength I bring to bath class would be learning quickly. However, i don’t use this strength as I get distracted easily and I always wait to the last minute to do the work.
A third strength I bring to math class would be that I’m able to sometimes help my classmates by explaining to them how to do the work.
When I was confused, strategies I used included moving on to other problems instead of staying on the problem and spending time solving it. It is also very helpful to ask the people around me instead of staying silent and figuring out things on my own. I learned these from past exams and tests as I never had enough time to solve the rest of the problems after I answered the one that took very long on.
Applying powers was the unit that I felt most confident learning, this is because I preview the most on this unit and always went to class prepared. This helped me learn that previewing can help a lot with understanding, and I will try to preview every unit in the future.
The unit that I felt was most challenging to me was Linear equations and Functions. This was because there were a lot points to memorize and I struggled to manage my time as I spent most of my time figuring out problems on my own. This is one of the reasons why I learned to move on and ask questions.
After working on the real life situation problem, I learned that math can be reflected on many things other than just numbers, such as graphs, which is a good way to represent math in real life. I would improve on communicating more with my partner because we struggled with talking to each other when it came to the step where we had to do things separately. This lead to our solutions not working well together.
In the notebook for semester one, my handwriting was clearly rushed, which lead to me not understanding my own handwriting. I tried to improve this in my notebook for the second semester by only taking down the main points and summarizing what the teacher said in class. I also improved by having better handwriting, which ensures that I can actually use the notes for reviewing. In the future, I could take notes more frequently instead of sometimes assuming that I am able to memorize important things the teachers talk about.
In the first semester of drama, we worked on acting Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. One of the first things we had to do was to annotate a script (the dialogues of each of our characters. For example, we had to label our facial expressions, our voice projection, our actions, and so on. According to the feedback the teacher gave me, I needed more body languages.
This is a photo of one of the small plays we did, and I played one of the main characters. I felt that I stepped out of my comfort zone after this play. According to teacher feedback, I successfully projected my voice clearly. What I can improve on would be my body language,
In VMM, one of the first things we did was to make a song of our own about our frustrated or sad feelings. It was the first time I wrote a song, but I found myself enjoying the process of the work. I could work on projecting the song louder so that the teacher could hear me better.
Me and my small group also created a simple melody to perform with our songs. We did really well on performing the piece, and the two pianists and the two guitarists in the group had different rhythms, What we would work on would be communicating, as we all practiced on our own until the teacher came over and told us it would be much better if we all talked.

This migration project helped me learn more about my father’s past life. This was vey important to me because his journey influenced my parents to send me to an international school to learn about western culture. Through this project, I was able to successfully present and talk about my father’s journey from Hong Kong to Victoria. I could improve on asking more specific questions to the interviewee as I had to keep going back and asking him questions as evidence for this project.
Evidence of Organization
The science notebook wasn’t as useful as it could’ve been because I rarely use it to take notes when the teacher doesn’t tell us to. My science notebook only includes worksheets and homework, which wouldn’t be as useful for reviewing compared to if I took more notes. I can fix this by being more attentive in class, and listening to important points the teacher talks about.
According to teacher feedbacks, I can improve on being more organized and doing my work more efficiently, instead of doing them at the last minute causing me to turn in overdue assignments. I am doing well on being able to show clear critical thinking through most of my work such as CERs and class discussions.
Three learner skills I have improved on throughout this school year would be that I am able to clearly and accurately communicate knowledge in class discussions. I developed skills on working through academic challenges. I am also able to improve in doing work with specificity and detail. One thing I should improve on is being more organized and turn in my work on time.
I wasn’t able to get 3s for some lessons that required a large amount of memorizing key points, I could improve by reviewing everyday after school to ensure that I am ready for sudden quizzes like 3 for 3s.

Out of the six standards, I improved most on writing CERs, this is because at first I didn’t know how to write the evidence part of the CER. I wrote in my evidence what I was supposed to write in the reasoning section. After teacher feedback, I learned that evidence has to have specific data. For example, instead of writing “the line in the graph increases” I could write the range of the increase. The “increase” part should appear in the reasoning section.

I refined an already written story by AI, I did this by adding on to the cliffhanger and changing the dialogue. I also slightly changed the story plot so that it isn’t rushed.
