End of Year Art Reflection

The unit that interests me the most is the ceramics unit.

This is the individual artwork that I made during this unit, which is a plate that has elements of cheese around and on it, such as cheese holes and a small cheese in the middle of the plate. I learned how to use clay to make coils that decorate the clay artwork. I also learned about the different types of glazes that can be applied to a plate, pot, etc., and the various effects they cause.

How can I accomplish my goals

This shows that I had handed in all of my science hw on time, which shows that I had been trying to accomplish goal 1.

These are the math COLs that had been done during the entire 8th grade, and my score is all above 3, which accomplishes goal 3.

Science

Evidence of Organization

The two pictures are the before-and-after images of my notetaking skills. The ocean current convection notes are a bit messy, and there are no sub-titles. Most of all, there is no color coding. The improved notes is the one showing the information of the energy food web. There are sub-titles, color coding and it is more organized than my previous notes

Math Artifact 2

This artifact is the math quiz (COL) , and this represents the math skill linear equations. During this unit, we learned how to write an equation in slope-intercept form and what each slope and y-intercept means in the concepts of the question. We also learned how to apply real-life stories to the graphs and stories. This artifact shows that I already clearly understand the concepts of the unit since I got the meeting questions all correct., but if the questions are more deep and are combined ( eg. volume+linear equations), then I might not be able to solve them. I choose this artifact because this is the first time on my math COLs that I got all correct on the meeting questions, which again, shows that I already clearly understood about how to solve basic questions that are related to linear functions.

Social Studies Artifact 2

I chose these artifacts because during the debate section, I learned how to present a crossfire debate. I presented growth by showing that I can provide rebuttals to my oppents’ argument and presenting an argument with evidence and reasoning.

Art Artifact 2

For the challenges, I also chose the printmaking piece, because as I had stated in the previous post, I had never tried printmaking, so when it comes to carving it is challenging for me. I had overcome this by carving a little bit at a time when I am carving the thin lines, at the same time using a smaller knife. Even though it is slow, but it will make the final piece better. It is hard to get of some background pieces of the carving, so during test printing, I first put some paint on the piece, printed and see which parts of the background ahd been sticking out, and carve it off. Even though there are still some pieces in the background, but practice makes perfect. So next time when we are also doing printmaking, I will try to make my piece better than this one.

Area of Growth: Print making

I had never tried print making before, so I am happy to learn and make one of my own artwork. It is hard at first to think of a theme, but when I get started to draw, ideas started to grow, which leads to my final piece.

Math Artifact 1

This artifact is a part from the Option 3 of the Previous Choice Board, which is about Linear Relationships and Functions. This practice is about how to use Point-Slope form, which is a new strategy and information to me. This work shows that I already know and learned how to use Point-Slope form.

Social Studies Artifact 1

This artifact shows growth over the school year because through writing the essay, I learned how to include in-text citations. Before writing this essay, I only summarize/paraphrase the evidence without direct citations.

Mental health Conditions

Media Influence

  • On social media, teens can see people that post themselves as perfect. Ex: Wealth, Pretty, Relationships
  • When teens see these “perfect” people, they will think that themselves are useless or not successful

Stigma

  • People think that when you get depression or anxiety or eating disorder, you can control yourself and it is not a big deal, but in reality, these illness is not a thing that you can stop magically, these can be interfered by therapy.
  • We could reduce sigma by having lessons and presentations about these mental illnesses, and let people learn more about them

Why is it important?

  • I had learned that you can get multiple mental illness at the same time, many illness cannot be cured completely and they are hard to recover from. I used to think that it is hard for teens to have mental illness, but now I know that most adult that have mental health problems had symptoms when they are teenagers. So, teens should be aware of their mental health, communicate more, and be positive.
