Math Unit 2 [Designing a Story Problem] Reflection

Full assignment:

1. Describe your story and what real-life situation it modeled?

My story is about a little girl, Genghis, that likes candy, selling lemonade to earn money in order to buy candy. My story models children selling lemonade to earn money in real-life!

2. What part of your project are you most proud of? Why?

I was most definitely most proud of the part where I had to answer the question I made myself. When answering the question, I really regret making a somewhat considered a complicated question. However, I decided to just go along with it and solve it. I am really proud of myself of spending my time trying to solve a problem that can completely be changed to be “easier”.

3. What was the hardest part of creating your piecewise function?

The hardest part of creating my piecewise function is the part I’m most proud of, solving my own problem. I thought that it was one of the parts that really required me to “think” (more). Additionally I had to show work/explain in a way that other people will understand how I solved the problem, which was really difficult to do.

4. If you could revise one part of this project, what would you improve and how?

If I could revise one part of this project, it would be that last part, explaining which form of equation fits in modeling the problem. I feel like the reasoning is a bit vague and short. I most definitely could improve it by specifying “why” which would make it longer.

5. What did this project help you understand better about piecewise functions?

This project was a really fun way of helping me understand piecewise functions better. In this project I practiced using piecewise functions using a realistic situation which really showed me how these things can be used in real life. Additionally, it helped me exercise finding domain, range, slope, and what these mean in context.

Mixed Media Self-Portrait Reflection

“A Square of Me”

Planning

Audience Insight

Through this art piece I want my audience to know what I like and that I am a sometimes messy complex and sometimes simple minded and optimistic person. I communicated this through the collaging (represents complex and messy) and the posterization of my self (simple minded). My pet dog and the color yellow(block of cheese) represents my optimism. My audience can see that my self portrait is split in half showing the “sometimes” in my message.

Risk and Experimentation

During the creation of my artwork, I took risks and experiments in order to effectively express my intended message because, I decided to change my plan along the way. As my plan shows, my first draft plan there was no collaging and my representing animal was a capybara to show calm but the I decided to change it into my dog(its not clear in my plan, but yes it is a dog) with a block of cheese to show optimism. Additionally, even with my final plan I didn’t completely follow it. I experimented with what I can do and in the end I added a 3D spring thing to my little character in the left bottom corner.

PE Reflection- Soccer

I think I did good in being the goalie and defending in soccer, since i did a few blocks from the ball going into the goal.

However I think I should work more on my shooting skills and passing skills.

PE Reflection- Water Polo

I improved since before this unit I did not know anything about water polo and after this unit I learnt the rules and how to pass and catch the ball with one hand.

I feel like I need to improve on my treading water because I had trouble with floating on water and treading which effected my overall performance.

Mini unit: Artistic Choices – Kool Koor

1. Cultural Influence on Aesthetic Choices

After meeting Kool Koor and learning about his artistic journey, how do you think his background in the graffiti culture of the Bronx influenced his aesthetic choices in the techniques and styles he demonstrated?

I think that Kool Koor was greatly influenced by the graffiti culture in Bronx through the key element: Artistic expression. In Bronx graffiti emerged as a form of self-expression and creativity, allowing artists to communicate their identities, thoughts, and messages through their artwork. Kool Koor’s artwork used bold and solid strokes and contrasting colors to show his own identity and creativity. His artwork drastically changed over time from a more messy style to a more focused and precise style. His art was also changed from graffiti art to studio art which might have effected his style to change since graffiti art is usually fast considering it is illegal. So Kool Koor would have to work fast and precise at the same time which possibly shaped his style to be a little “crazy”. As he changed to studio work, he should have more time so he could be more precise with every stroke and work slowly without pressure.

2. Environmental Impact on Art Creation

Considering Kool Koor’s shift from street art to studio work, how do you think different environments (like the streets versus a classroom) impact an artist’s creative process and choices? In what ways did you feel these environmental influences while trying out his painting style?

(His artwork drastically changed over time from a more messy style to a more focused and precise style. His art was also changed from graffiti art to studio art which might have effected his style to change since graffiti art is usually fast considering it is illegal. So Kool Koor would have to work fast and precise at the same time which possibly shaped his style to be a little “crazy”. As he changed to studio work, he should have more time so he could be more precise with every stroke and work slowly without pressure.) [from Question 1]

Different environments could limit artist’s creative process and choices. Kool Koor’s street art used limited resources in a short amount of time which affected his art to become a bit messy and “poor quality” (like in paint). The short amount of time limits his creative process since he doesn’t have enough time to think of ideas or to make every stroke, shape, or line perfect. On the other hand, when he did studio work, his materials were less limited and he had enough time to work on big projects and have them preserved.

I felt the good environmental influences of having the materials, like new brushes, paints and canvases while trying out his painting style. I also felt the benefits of having enough time to finish an artwork and have it preserved.

3. Personal Reflection on Aesthetic Development

What aspects of your culture or environment do you think will influence your future artistic choices for your self-portrait mixed media artwork? How can you incorporate elements from your own background into your artwork to express your unique identity?

I think that my culture or environment will NOT influence my future artistic choices for my self-portrait mixed media artwork a lot. Instead I think that my personal beliefs, values, and personality would.

For example, I value personal space so i possible will include a few bubbles in the background as in “personal bubble”

Another example, my personality is overall more complicated so i might add some random squiggles to represent that.

Science Unit 1 reflection

What are you most proud of in this class so far?

I am most proud of my deep understanding in class.

What has been your biggest challenge in this class?

My biggest challenge in this class is managing time when study or doing assignments for this class.

How have you demonstrated the qualities of an Active Learner — preparing effectively, participating fully, collaborating well, staying positive, and reflecting to improve?
I have demonstrated the qualities of an Active Learner by preparing effectively, participating fully, collaborating well, and reflecting to improve.
Are there any areas where you want to grow or improve next quarter?

I wish to improve my time managing skills

My Math Sticker Project

I liked that this project was a fun way of showing what you learned instead of normal worksheets or assessments. I wished that the instructions were more clear instead of just giving us examples and a rubric.

Math Unit 1 Reflection and Goal Setting

1.    I chose question 4 as evidence of my best thinking because I managed to clearly state the sequence of transformations that would map one shape onto the other shape. I improved from not knowing how to write each step properly to knowing how to write sequences of transformations properly.

2.    I chose question 7 as evidence of my best thinking because I correctly used evidence and reasoning to prove the shapes are congruent. I improved from completely not understanding how to write reasonings for the evidence to being able to write both evidence and reasoning for a problem(sometimes).

3.    Throughout this unit, I improved the most at solving dilation problems.

4.    I feel that I still need to work on writing a reasoning to prove that two shapes are congruent.

5.    List three of your strengths so far this year: 1. My note-taking 2. My organization 3. Understanding of content in class

6.    List three things you want to improve on in the next unit: 1. My homework completion 2. My precrastination(opposite of procrastination) 3. My participation in class (like answering questions)

 7.    Create an academic goal by completing the sentences and answering the questions.

In the next unit, I want to improve the things that I listed above.

What might get in the way of this goal?

1.My poor memory 2.My procrastination 3.My introvertness

What can I do if I get stuck or need help?

I can ask for advice from my teacher or my peers

ELA: Share your spark

My “Spark” is “Chinese animation becoming very popular recently”. I chose this topic because I enjoy watching animations, shows etc. This topic is connected to culture heritage and economy.

Branching questions:

What are the key Influences of Chinese animation popularity?

How did those influences work well?

This spark matters to me because I plan on going for a art major and a animation minor, so I want to learn more about different types of animations in general. I hope to know more about how animation was developed into a huge part of entertainment and cultural representation. Additionally I also hope to discover the differences of animations form different places and how they all represent a culture or a experience/story. I think through completing Independent passport I can learn about how Chinese animations is becoming popular.
