Math Unit 2 Summary

U:In this unit, I understood how to solve percentages and to find out the tax and tips.

N: I learned how to solve percent change in two different ways and to find out if its a decrease or an increase.

I: I think what was interesting in this unit was the project and putting the math into real life scenarios.

T: What was tricky for me in this unit was reading the questions carefully.

Social Studies Unit 2: Essay

For my essay, first, we had to choose a communication or transportation device to research, and after that, I had to find 3 articles to use to research that topic. After I found the articles about my topic, the telegraph, I annotated them and put the notes onto a graphic organizer. After finishing, I used the notes to write an essay. Then, Ms. Sawyer checked it and pointed out things I had to fix. After I fixed them, I wrote an introduction and conclusion, and I printed out the final piece.

One thing I did well in my essay was writing down the evidence with correct quotations.

One thing I still need to learn to do is to not repeat my evidence in the reasoning.

Science Unit 2 Reflection

My essential question for science is: How do our body systems help you when we play our favorite sport?

Learning about cells and body systems helped me answer this essential question because I already know how somebody systems interact when fore example using your muscles or when you are exercising, so I just had to make it specific to my CER topic. For cells, it helped because I already knew what each cell did, so I could just use the ones I think are relevant and add some research to show how they work together.

This relates to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems because the body is a system of like organ systems right? And then organ systems are made of organs, so organs make up an organ system which makes up the organism, so its basically a system inside a system. Then there are tissues inside of organs, and they are a system that makes up the organs. Then, cells make up the tissues, so its another system.

I think the learning experiences that were most impactful and memorable for me were the dissections or the review games. I think because sometimes when someone tells me something I can’t really imagine it so I don’t really get it, but with dissections I can actually understand more things because I can see it and feel it. For example, I never understood what tissues actually were until I saw the epithelial tissue that we peeled off the heart. Dissections are also really fun and memorable for me. Review games also help me a lot because sometimes I forget stuff or need to memorize stuff and its really easy to memorize information with these games. I also sometimes don’t want to full out study so I play the review games and they help a lot.

I think if I could improve an aspect of my learning, it would be for me add all the required elements of a model, because I always get points off my grade because i forget things in a model, such as descriptions or a title. Remembering this can enhance future learning experiences because if someone wants to look at my cell model, but I forgot to add labels, then they would be confused by which parts are which, but if I remember to put labels, then other people will know which part is which.

Health Unit 3 Portfolio Reflection

In health class, we are learning about how to make healthy decsision, and a way to do that is using the decide model

The decide model can help us make decisions step by step, first define the problem, then explore your options, consider the consequences, and identify your values, and evaluate your decisions. This can be helpful to us because it encourages us to actually think about our decisions before we just do something without thinking. We can decide if it is wise to accept or decline because we will think about the consequences.

I learn a lot about the different substances and I learned that a lot of them harm your brain, and that you will not be critical thinking if you use any of these substances.

Soccer Reflection

I learned more about soccer and about the game and how to dribble, and to work as a team better. Abigail helped me learn about soccer and showed me how a game works. I am proud of scoring one goal once. I think I can work on focusing and being a better goalie.

Swimming Unit Reflection

We practiced a lot of sculling, diving into the water, and working together for lifts and stuff. At the end of the unit, we choreographed a mini artistic swimming routine, using all the skills we learned. In our choreography, we used the pencil jump, we lifted people, and we did a floating pattern in the water. I think our team learned a lot about working together but we need to lock in these next few lessons to finish our choreography

Health Unit 2 Portfolio Reflection

I used to think that you could trust most influencers and the advice they told us, as long as there are a lot of likes and comments that confirm it. I assumed that most health content online was correct without looking carefully at the video. I decided on how to trust health advice by looking at the number of comments that confirmed it and the number of likes.

Now I think that I should be more careful in listening too the advice influencers give, and that I shouldn’t rely on likes and comments to decide wether to trust it or not. Now, I will check the influencers page for any credentials such as a Phd or a degree of some sort. I will also search up the influencer online to see if anything that is a flag for me pops up.

An example of that is before, If I saw a hack for a pimple, I would see the amount of likes and try it immediately, but now, if I saw it, I would check the account for credentials and then try it if I think its safe.

Unit 3: Volleyball Reflection

I focused on the ball and and that helped me bump and set in the right direction. When I moved faster it made it easier to be in time to bump the ball, and also when I couldn’t catch my teammates could catch the ball. I think I need to go faster because many times I don’t move and I can’t hit the ball. Sometimes we are out of formation, so we should keep in formation more as well.

Social Studies Unit 1: Media Presentation

Sophia Li Gold C1 Media Presentation.MOV

A piece of feedback I got was to add more connotations and to explain how the words I used influenced the audiences feelings, and in the end I added it in my speech.

Another piece of feedback I got was to talk more confident, and in my final presentation I spoke louder and clearer.

I am usually really afraid of speeches, so I’m proud that I did this one with confidence, and my voice was pretty clear as well.

I think I need to improve on staring at my notecards less, and maybe remembering some stuff by heart.

A bias is choosing a side and thinking that side is right, sometimes without realizing it.

A positive outcome of people having the same perspective is they will agree and there will be no arguments.

A negative outcome of people having the same perspective is that we might all think the same and there will be no diversity.
