My essential question for science is: How do our body systems help you when we play our favorite sport?
Learning about cells and body systems helped me answer this essential question because I already know how somebody systems interact when fore example using your muscles or when you are exercising, so I just had to make it specific to my CER topic. For cells, it helped because I already knew what each cell did, so I could just use the ones I think are relevant and add some research to show how they work together.
This relates to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems because the body is a system of like organ systems right? And then organ systems are made of organs, so organs make up an organ system which makes up the organism, so its basically a system inside a system. Then there are tissues inside of organs, and they are a system that makes up the organs. Then, cells make up the tissues, so its another system.
I think the learning experiences that were most impactful and memorable for me were the dissections or the review games. I think because sometimes when someone tells me something I can’t really imagine it so I don’t really get it, but with dissections I can actually understand more things because I can see it and feel it. For example, I never understood what tissues actually were until I saw the epithelial tissue that we peeled off the heart. Dissections are also really fun and memorable for me. Review games also help me a lot because sometimes I forget stuff or need to memorize stuff and its really easy to memorize information with these games. I also sometimes don’t want to full out study so I play the review games and they help a lot.
I think if I could improve an aspect of my learning, it would be for me add all the required elements of a model, because I always get points off my grade because i forget things in a model, such as descriptions or a title. Remembering this can enhance future learning experiences because if someone wants to look at my cell model, but I forgot to add labels, then they would be confused by which parts are which, but if I remember to put labels, then other people will know which part is which.
