Health

What safety behavior is most important to you?

The most important thing to me is to never look at your phone after your bedtime. I think this is important because your eyes can get harmed really badly. You can also have headaches.

5 people I would go to if i had problems with my safety is…

  1. Big sis
  2. Mom
  3. Dad
  4. Ms. Green
  5. Max

How does social media impact teens the most?

I think that social media would harm teens’ eyes. It would affect teens’ mental health. I mean this by teens would have a different view of their own body wich can be harmful to their health.

List 3-5 ways you can keep yourself safe online.

Unit 4 Dystopian fiction

What did I learn about dystopian fiction?

I learned that dystopian fiction has many elements to understand. I think this is good for my reading comprehension because I would understand different types of elements. I think this is a new way of understanding books because in every book there should be elements.

How does dystopian fiction invite me to think about real life?

Dystopian fiction could be our life in the future. I think this could happen because AI could take over our world.

I enjoyed/did not enjoy The Giver?

I enjoyed it because I learned it before but in a different perspective. I learned it in the reader’s’ perspective, but STP read it to us and analyzed it to us in Jonas’ perspective.

How hove I improved my ability to write an Academic paragraph?

Now i know how to correctly write a academic paragraph. I think a academic paragraph is easier than a regular paragraph because it only needs a few parts.

How am I better now interacting with others with Commonlit or literacy discussions?

I was always good with collaborating with others though now, I can collaborate with new people like hayoon, landon and francis.

Social studies Ötzi reflection

Step 3: Answer Question 1 – What You Worked On

During the Otzi unit, I worked on finding out how Özi died. We mainly did this by reading lots of articles and finding the evidence in them that could support our reasoning. We each had a partner for the mock trial and my partner was Tony fang. Me and tony agreed that we both agreed that Ötzi was not murdered and died by natural causes

We should care about the past because we could learn about the origin of humans. We could also learn about their culture. We could also learn how there are differences and similarities of the life in the past and the life nowadays.

I am proud of working so well with my partner. I think we worked well because we were ahead of everyone on the first day! I think we could have studied the subject health issues more thoroughly so we could answer all of the questions the lawyers threw at us.

I think talking more is a very important skill me and my partner needs to develop because we should have talked more indicating that we thoroughly knew about our topic.

Math bake sale

What did I do?

We backed lots of cookies and sold them for 14 RMB. We also had to do worksheets to find out how much everything would cost. This was a project that lasted for 4 days. On day 1 and 2, we finished the worksheets. But on day 3 and 4, we made posters about these worksheets.

What did I learn?

I learned how to solve the problems to find the batch price and the serving price. I also learned how to make customers come to our stand. I also learned how to gove the change back to them correctly.

what worked?

We baked really well and we sold out just on time. We earned about 700 RMB for a few cookies! I think that this activity is a very big sucsees.

what didn’t work very well?

What worked not very well was that we sometimes could not decide who would do what and we would get into a minor argument.

how is this relevant for me?

I think this can help me in real life because I would know how to manage our money. I also think that this could help me with working with new people and not just our friends later on in life. I think this activity was very helpful to me and I think you teachers should do it again next year for the future 6th graders.

Egg Car

The criteria of the egg car is that you can only get two pairs of wheels, three pieces of paper, 1 meter of tape, the car must roll down the ramp, the wheels have to stay on the ground, and the egg must not crack.

Newtons first law can relate to this because the reason the egg would crack is because the egg wants to keep moving and hit the rocks even when the egg car has stopped moving. This can relate to Newton’s second law can relate to the activity is because i found out that the more heavier the car is the more momentum it has which also leads to more force to stop it. Newton’s third law can relate to this challenge when the car pushes on the slope and the slope would push back on the car.

What worked well was that in the test run the car rolled down and the fack egg did not even hit the rock. We also added some shredded paper to put on the egg so it would not fly out and crack.

What did not work that well was that we did not finish building it so we had to rush and forgot to add airbags and a seatbelt so it was not the safest car. We also failed in the real test because the egg was too much for our fragail car to handle.

I think this activity would relate to real life because when cars crash the crumple zones will crumple fragaily. The cars would push back on each other and the air bags would protect the human, or the egg. I also think that the cars will go through a training like this before getting released into public. I think this is because they don’t want the public having safety concerns about the car.

Balloon car

The point of the balloon care was for us to understand how things moved and why it stopped and didn’t keep on moving. We made this balloon car out of a foam tray, some wheels, a balloon, a traw ,and a lot of tape. We also tested the balloon car with weights and found out that the more weights it has then the more closer it will stop.

Newton’s first law states that if an object is in motion then it will stay in motion unless acted on by another force. We can relate to the balloon car because it would keep going until it hit the wall if there was no friction so it would usually stop in the middle. Newton’s second law states that friction equals mass and acceleration. We can relate this law to our balloon car experiment because the more weights there were then the smaller distance the car traveled and when there was no weights, then the car would go all the way to the other side of the room, or stop almost to the wall. Newtons third law states that for every action there is and equal or opposite reaction. This can relate to the balloon car because when the balloon car reaches the wall, it bounces off and rolls backwards a bit.

I think that we built the car really well so we almost won all of the competitions. We blew our balloon really big and it didnt pop once so we could get pushed farther and faster than all of the other cars. We could also identify how the car relates to the newtons three laws of motion.

The only problem in our car was that it would always go sideways when traveling and bump into chairs and tables that would stop it from moving. Sometimes our balloon would be too small and it didn’t go very far. Sometimes we connected wrong pieces of information to Newton’s three laws of motion.

I can connect this activity to real life because the cars use gas to move and our balloon car uses air to move. I also connected that a car is really heavy and needs more force to make the car move. I can see that the gravitational pull for a car is stronger so the car would need more force and in the balloon cars case more air in the balloon so that it would move at all.

Creative writing reflection

What are we doing?

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning?

Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers)

Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits)

Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)

Setting (the world that I create for my story)

What’s working?

I enjoyed planing how Jimmy would stand up for himself. I also enjoyed planning how Jimmy would show affection for Jessie. I am proud of myself for coming up with the plot and also typing up all of my ideas. I got the idea for my story when I thought of big bullies that bully people who are smaller and not better that them. My favorite like was “In the back his friend Jack, who was usually the center of attention, glared bullets at Jimmy. “

Areas for Growth

A time I couldn’t decide what would happen next so I just looked at my story planner and followed what was supposed to happen. My least favorite part was when Jessie came out of nowere and cleaned the blood off of Jimmy’s face.

Personal relevance

I think this is relevant to my life because sometimes I break up friendly fights that got out of hand. I like creative writing but I am not good at writing that much words and I feel pressured and the story doesn’t come out the way I want it to.

Indi Bot Critical Thinking

in the project Indi Bot I used critical thinking by analyzing witch color does what and made a track for it to get to the end.

I learned how to operate the Indi bot. Indi bot would move based on the colors he sees. Me and my team kept the Indi Bot moving until the purple one witch is the ending one.

We first had to memorize what each color would do and then we had to find the missing color for the Indi Bot to get to the ending

At first everything went smoothly, but on the level 13 one, we got stuck for a while figuring out were the Indi bot was supposed to go. Then we figured it out and the time was up and we went back to out own science class.
