L2 – WOOP Goal 2 Reflection

Introduction – Why and What?

My WOOP goal focused on having meaningful converstations with people close to me. My WOOP Goal specificaly focused on the statement “I am satisfied with honest conversations I am able to have with family and friends or others who are important to me”. I chose this statement/topic to focus on because of two main reasons, firstly I realised that I am not spending enough quality time with family and friends. And secondly I also rated it a 6/10 on my wellness compass, showing me that I needed to work on it.

Evidence – Examples of work

A peice of evidence of my progress on my WOOP goal was the conversation I had with my parents over the weekend. He touched on important issues with our relationships but we also talked about what was happening around us. In conclusion this conversation proves my efforts to progress through my WOOP goal journey.

Final Reflection – Thoughts , Process

In conclusion I am very happy with the way I approached this goal because I rushed into it straight away without hesitation which in my case worked very well. My wish is to continue to progress forwards in my goal, defeating any challenges I need to overcome.

Mental Health Unit Reflection

During this unit, I learned a lot about different mental health conditions. I found out what they’re like, how they’re treated, and when they might start. It was really interesting to see not just the facts, but also how these conditions affect people in real life. This helped me understand why mental health is such an important topic.

What I thought before the unit:

Before this unit, I had a pretty basic understanding of mental health conditions. I knew some names—depression, anxiety—but I mostly thought of them as things that just happened to people, without much understanding of the causes or treatments. I hadn’t really considered the depth of how these conditions impacted daily life for individuals and their families. I imagined mental health issues as something separate from physical health, rather than the intertwined reality I now understand.

What surprised me most was how engaging the study of mental health actually is. I initially expected a lot of dry facts and statistics. Learning about the different therapeutic approaches and the research into brain function sparked a genuine curiosity. I found myself wanting to learn more about specific conditions and the complexities of the brain, moving beyond a simple understanding to a deeper appreciation of the challenges and triumphs involved in mental well-being.

What I learned during the unit:

I discovered that mental health conditions can be really complex and vary from person to person. For example, I learned how anxiety can show up differently in different people, and that’s why treatments need to be personalized. I also found out about various therapies, like cognitive-behavioral therapy, which helps people change their thought patterns. It was eye-opening to see how much support is out there, from therapy to medication, and how important it is to seek help when needed.

I also learned about the different factors that can contribute to mental health conditions, like genetics, environment, and life experiences. For instance, stressful events or trauma can trigger anxiety or depression in someone who might be predisposed to these conditions. This made me realize that mental health issues aren’t just random; they often have underlying causes that can be addressed.

Conclusion/Final reflection

Overall, this unit opened my eyes to the reality of mental health. It’s not just a topic in a textbook; it affects real people every day. I’ve come to appreciate the importance of talking about mental health and supporting those who are struggling. This knowledge will definitely stick with me as I continue to learn and grow.

L4: Wellness App Review

Functionality:

How does the app work?

The app I chose for my WOOP goal was BePresent. Be present is an app where you limit your screen time in a fun manner. In the app you first chose your goal for how many hours of screen time you want to stay bellow, everyday if you stay under the screen time you build your streak and gain experience points. You can also place specific limits for opens on different apps and how long they can be oppened for. And finally you can also chose which apps to not count for the screen time or app limits. The app is very easy to use because it only requires around 15 minutes to set up once and then there is no need to even visit it during the day because it runs in the background. Some of the more advanced features include the groups where you can connect multiple people and keep eachother acountable for the group streak as well as the leaderboard.

How does it support my WOOP goal?

The app BePresent supports my WOOP goal by helping me limit my screen time and there fore increase sleep. In my WOOP goal I mentioned that screen time was one of the main issues surrounding my sleep therefore I found an app that limits my screentime but also is fun and makes me want to refrain from using my phone and not only restricting me.

How does it impact my mental health?

The app I chose can significantly impact our mental health as it has the ability to block apps that are not too good for us and it can also restrict our screen time to ensure more sleep and time spent on other activities that may improve mental health which are not on our phones.

How does it build healthy habits?

The app BePresent promotes healthy habits by restricting screen time, which is vital for improving both sleep quality and duration. It motivates users to develop self-regulation and accountability by providing an urge to remain below the set screen time limits. The app also allows users to block specific apps, as well as socialize with other people in groups, which allows for a supportive environment that encourages less technology usage which leads to a better mental health.

How does this build stress resilience?

Moreover, by reducing screen time and fostering healthier technology habits, users can cultivate stress resilience. Less time spent on potentially distressing content, such as social media or news, allows for more engagement in activities that promote relaxation and well-being, such as exercise, reading, or socializing offline.

Does this use humane design or addictive design?

I think that this app is not very addictive but has some addictive aspects to it, like the streak sections of the app where you might be pulled into the app every day if you are very involved. On the other hand, the app is humane because it has many positive benefits for your life, including limiting screen time and app usage.

What could be the long term impact of using this app?

This app could help a person limit their screen time even after deleting the app as it could build healthy habits in our daily lives, this could lead to less time online and on phones. To conclude in the end with this app many people would be able to develop their world outside their phones as well as spend less time on their devices.

Artifact 2 for PE

Reflecting on my recent unit in basketball, I realized that even though I had played before, I forgot many important skills and rules. This really showed during our practices, where I sometimes felt confused about what to do. However, these moments pushed me to focus and work hard to regain my understanding. I practiced dribbling, shooting, and teamwork, which helped me learn not only the game better but also how to cooperate with my teammates. As I tackled these challenges, I grew not just as a basketball player but as someone who learns from mistakes and stays eager to improve.

Reflecting on my recent unit in water polo, I realized that although I had participated in it before, I had forgotten many key concepts and skills. This misunderstanding led to confusion during practice, but it was exactly in these moments that I grew the most. I had to work hard to relearn the rules and techniques, improving my understanding of teamwork and strategy. As I overcame these challenges, I developed not just as a water polo player, but also as a learner who learns from mistakes and embraces new information with enthusiasm.

Artifact 2 for French

WW1 Letter Reading – Practice

I focused on enhancing my pronunciation skills in French, which turned out to be an enriching experience. At first, I faced challenges with articulating certain sounds, often struggling to achieve the clarity I desired. However, as I participated in various pronunciation exercises, I realized the importance of consistent practice in developing my claritiy abilities. Furthermore, I discovered the value of recording my voice to track my progress. By listening to my recordings, I could identify areas that needed improvement and then I could relisten before resubmiting. This iterative process taught me that mastering pronunciation is not just about mimicking sounds, but about expressing myself confidently. In conclusion, by focusing on my specific goal to produce clarity in my speech, I was able to significantly enhance my skills in pronouncing French, making what I was trying to comunicate more clear.

Smart goal – Writing

I focused on enhancing my writing and organizational skills, which proved to be a transformative experience. Initially, I struggled with structuring my thoughts coherently in French, often finding it challenging to express complex ideas clearly. However, as I engaged with various writing exercises, I learned the importance of outlining my ideas before diving into the actual writing process. I began by brainstorming topics and creating mind maps, which allowed me to visualize the connections between different concepts. This not only helped in organizing my thoughts but also made the writing process less daunting. I also discovered the value of drafting and revising my work. By writing multiple drafts, I could refine my sentences and improve the overall flow of my writing. This iterative process taught me that writing is not just about getting words on paper but about crafting a narrative that resonates with the reader. In conclusion, because I worked on this smart goal I was able to develop my skills in writing specificaly in French.

Design workbook – Critical thinking

When I was working on this product, I really leaned into my research and critical thinking to help shape my ideas. The more I explored the information out there, the easier it was to design everything. I could focus on tweaking my concepts without getting stuck, which meant I wrapped things up pretty quickly while still making sure it had a good impact. Thanks to all the research I did, I was able to pick the best materials and approaches, leading to a product that really shines in quality. Overall, mixing solid research with a bit of creativity made the whole process fun and efficient, and I ended up with something I’m really proud of.
