U2: Linear Equations and Relationship

Part 1: Unit 2 Topic A and B Test Reflection (Functions & Statistics)

A. Evidence of Your Best Thinking

Select two questions that demonstrates my best thinking:

  1. I chose Question 2d as evidence of my best thinking because I explained my thinking, defining key words in the questions and showing my calculations clearly with precise math.
  1. I chose Question 3a as evidence of my best thinking because I described an association of a scatter plots using D.O.T.S. clearly, and I also demonstrated good understandings and explanations.

B. Skills Reflection

Complete each sentence honestly and thoughtfully.

  • Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at understanding and identifying functions. Also, I learnt a lot about residuals plots and plots overall.
  • I don’t have a specific skill, but something I still need to work on is choosing better vocabs, for example I should’ve used ‘points’ instead of ‘plots’, determining what vocabs to use where.
  • The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was finishing the L4 part in time, since there was a lot of places needed for explanations and justifications in words, it would be better if I could finnish L4 faster so I could have time to sheck and be more specific.
  • One strategy that helped me on this test was how I skipped questions that I didn’t know — I moved to other ones and I solved it later. It helps me since I changed a mindset doing the other questions, and I had more ideas when I went back.

Part 2: Goal Reflection & End-of-Semester Check-In

A. Looking Back at Your Last Goal

Last unit, you set this goal: In the next unit, I want to get a 4 on my COL. Something that may get in the way of this goal is lack of attention on details in the question. If I get stuck, I would find Ms Fisher for extra support, or review notes at home.

  1. How well did you work toward this goal?
☐ Very well ☐ Somewhat ☐ I struggled with this

Something that helped me make progress towards my goal is reviewing knowledge learned at home and seeking for help immediately when I am confused.

Something that got in my way for this goal is time. My goal was to get a 4 on the test, but unfortunately, I was working at a slow pace, so I was unable to finnish the last question on L4.

B. End-of-Semester Self Reflection

  • List three strengths you have shown last semester: I am a fast learner; I am always concentrated; I always try my best.
  • List three areas you still want to improve: do not make small mistakes; work faster; be more positive.

Complete all parts:

  • In the next unit I want to work faster and be more accurate. Something that might get in the way of my goal is how when I work faster, I would be less accurate. If there is any help that I need I will be reaching out to my teacher and practice more.

Designing a Story Problem (Piecewise Function)

My story is based on the real-life situation of people working in different jobs a day. It features a day of Kylan, where he works and earned money, and where he spends money for needs.

The part of this project that I am most proud of is how my text/explanations were clear with good mathematical precision and workings. I am also proud of how I arranged evidence and numbers in graph in an very organized way , using a chart.

The hardest part for me in the project was typing the workings down and thinking of problems. This is because that the symbols that are typed down is so different compared to the symbols written. Also, I’ve never had an experience composing problems based on my own graph.

If I could revise this project, I would make the graph more advanced, I would do this by changing the time, for example, I would use times like 10:24, 3:18, with more advanced numbers on minutes.

This project helped me understand piecewise functions better because I gained an better understanding of what piecewise functions are, and knew the potential questions that could appear with an piecewise function. I’ve also enhanced my graphing and explanation skills a lot during this project.

Unit 3 : Identity and Healthy Relationships

Project: Analysis of song ‘All Too Well’ by Taylor Swift. (First half)

The purpose of this project is to helps us spot relationships in media, and analyze it ourselves to apply what is learned in class to real practices. In this project, me and my groupmate analyzed the song ‘All Too Well’, we saw that the relationship between Taylor Swift and her Lover is unhealthy, where there were major red flags, including doing things without each other’s consent, crossing each other’s boundaries,a dn not showing respect to each other.

Project: Analysis of song ‘All Too Well’ by Taylor Swift. (Second half)

In this unit, I learned about how to express my own boundaries to people with a assertive way of communication. I’ve also learned about what is the difference between unhealthy relationship and health ones, being able to identify the difference between sexual harassment and flirting: Sexual harassment is unwanted, and someone feels ‘better’ than the other one, while flirting is wanted and two sides feels equal. Another key idea I learned is the difference between gender and sex. Gender is something referred in society and are shaped by culture. While sex is something biological assigned at birth for everyone, and is non-binary. Another thing I learned is how to break ‘stigma’ or gender stereotypes.

Health Unit 2 Reflection

I used to think that the phrase ‘mental health’ is a simple word that means the state of people’s mind, and their well-beings. A misconception I had is about how people with mental health acts different hugely, or they may harm others, where a lot of crimes are associated with mental health issues.

But now I think that mental health is not just basic sates, or well-being, it’s a broad phrase, which is people’ emotional, psychological, and social well-being, which affects how people think, feel, and act. My perspective of viewing people with mental conditions had also altered, I’ve realized that the fact that has been portrayed in movies hugely that crimes are related with mental issues are unrealistic, while people who have mental issues usually acts normal.

I believed that my thinking has changed mainly due to the studies of different mental health issues/cases, and through information about social media and misconceptions learnt in class. I now understand how people who with mental issues suffer alone, and how mental health issues are a serious problem.

“La Guerre des Jumeaux”

1. My Thoughts on the Novel
I found the short novel “La Guerre des Jumeaux” very interesting. It told the story of two twins with completely different personalities who did not like each other and fought every day. Their relationship was completely changed by a ‘dog-finding’ event, which finally turned them into collaborative brothers.

2. Vocabulary Practice and Techniques
To learn the necessary vocabulary, I used Quizlet. The technique that works best for me is using digital flashcards, and I particularly enjoy the matching game on the platform to test my memory in a fun and quick way.

3. Retelling the Story with Pictures
For the oral part, I had to retell the story using pictures. I prepared for this by first writing down key words and a full draft in my notebook to organize my thoughts. This preparation made the process quite straightforward, so it wasn’t very challenging for me.

4. Recording Submission

5. Self-Assessment and Feedback
I think the content and information I delivered in my oral were good. However, from the feedback I received, I noticed I was mispronouncing some verb endings, like “-ent,” because I was reading my text too much. I took this feedback on board and did a live re-test with my teacher, which resulted in a grade 4.

6. Strengths and Areas for Improvement
I am really proud of my writing skills, specifically my ‘introduction about myself’ assignment. I chose the harder prompt and used a variety of vocabulary with strong grammar, which led to an “exceeding” grade. An area I need to improve is my ability to catch ideas more easily during faster listening assignments.

The Activity and My Approach

The activity was a written assessment where we had to write a personal introduction. I chose to challenge myself by selecting the more advanced Topic L4. The task was to create a comprehensive and well-structured text about myself, which required using specific vocabulary and grammatical structures we had learned in class.

Feedback and Future Goals

My teacher reviewed my work and gave me very positive feedback. She mentioned that I did well and specifically praised my ability to accurately reuse the target grammar and vocabulary. She also noted my successful use of complex sentence structures, which demonstrated a strong command of the language.

I will focus on improving my spelling to make my written work even more accurate and polished.

Semester 1 Active Learner Reflection

My current goal is to get all 3s on 3 for 3s, where there would be no more 2s, to achieve this goal, I will listen carefully in class, pay attention to details, and consistency reflect on what is learnt. The progress that I’ve made recently is I reflect and review information learnt after school, and I would check Schoology if I missed classes, I’ve got a 3 recently, which make me step closer towards my goal.

I am proud of my efficiency in classes, where I produce quality works, and I collaborate with my table-mates together in stations activities.

I am prepared to learn, and I do my best in classes, collaborating with classmates, and asking questions, or finding the teacher when I miss-out.

Winter concert

During this semester, I’ve learnt four pieces that the orchestra would be performing in the winter concert: Overture to Lucillo Silla, Ice Sculptures, Greensleves and Winter with you.

In the most recent formative assessment on Overture to Lucillo Silla, I correctly demonstrated a Spiccato Bow stroke.

Unit 1 Reflection and Goal Setting

Select two questions from the Unit 1 Celebration of Learning that reflect your best thinking in this unit:

1.    I chose question 1 in level 4 as evidence of my best thinking because i clearly explained why two triangles in a complicate shape are congruent. I’ve identified and explained why their sides are congruent based on transformations.

2.    I chose question 8 as evidence of my best thinking because I identified the imposter triangle with evidence, and provided clear explanations on why.

Complete each of these sentences.

3.    Throughout this unit, I improved the most at using mathematical precision and being more precise.

4.    I feel that I still need to work on to read questions more carefully and check before handing work in.

5.    List three of your strengths so far this year. (transformations, dilations, angles)

6.    List three things you want to improve on in the next unit. (precision, harder functions meanings, mathematical word choice)

 7.    Create an academic goal by completing the sentences and answering the questions.

In the next unit, I want to get a 4 on my COL. Something that may get in the way of this goal is lack of attention on details in the question. If I get stuck, I would find Ms Fisher for extra support, or review notes at home.
