Effective collaborator:
Throughout the fitness routine and T-shirt design activities, I learned the importance of being an effective collaborator. In the fitness routine, teamwork was essential because I had to discuss which movement to pick with my friends and find the best one. Listening to others’ ideas can inspire me to do better.
In the t-shirt design activity, collaboration also played a role. Everyone had different ideas, which can be very inspiring. We also discussed some potential ways to draw it and rated other’s work. For example, one of my friend was struggling to come up with design ideas, so we discussed and talked about what to draw. I also saw my other friends drawing very different styles of design and largely inspired me.
Overall, these experiences taught me that being an effective collaborator means balancing sharing ideas, and benefitting everyone around you. Which means there needs to have teamwork, listening skills, and being open to different perspectives. From this experience, I understand that working together not only makes a task easier but also allows for more creative and well-rounded outcomes.
Skillful communicator:
Reflecting on my journey to becoming a skillful communicator, I recognize the importance of clarity, and creativity in conveying ideas. One of the tasks I did was pitching an object with a reimagined use. This exercise challenged me to think outside the box and present a familiar item in a completely different way. It forces me to structure my thoughts in a clear way, use persuasive language, and engage my audience.
Another significant moment was creating a tutorial on how to use Taobao. This required me to break down complex steps into simple ones, find the easiest and clearest language to explain every step, and use the clearest way to present my steps. I learned to anticipate potential questions and address them proactively, ensuring the tutorial was accessible to users of all skill levels. This task reinforced the importance of empathy and audience awareness in effective communication.
Lastly, presenting a book allowed me to practice summarizing key ideas and conveying their significance in a cohesive way. I focused on expressing my ideas to resonate with my audience, using examples and pictures to make the content relatable. These experiences collectively strengthened my ability to communicate skillfully.
Resilience:
Resilience has played a key role in my personal growth, and two experiences have really emphasized its importance. One of them was when I created a sculpture as part of my artwork. I put a huge amount of time and effort into making this sculpture. This activity required patience, problem-solving, and the ability to adapt when things didn’t go as planned. There were moments of frustration when the material didn’t behave as expected or when my vision didn’t immediately translate into reality. Throughout the process, there were obstacles that I stood upon, but at the end I managed to figure it out either by myself or with the help of adults. At the end I think it is a fun and meaningful activity. This experience taught me that resilience is not about avoiding difficulties but about finding ways to overcome them and grow stronger in the process.
The second experience was going on a mindful walk. At first, it seemed simple, but it became a very calming exercise for my mental resilience. During the walk, I focused on being present, observing my surroundings, and letting go of distracting thoughts. This practice helped me build emotional resilience by teaching me to stay grounded and calm, even when faced with stress or uncertainty. It reminded me that resilience is not just about enduring hardships but also about cultivating inner strength and balance.
Critical thinker:
Through learning a magic trick, completing the Gomoku task, participating in a survival game, and engaging in wordplay, I developed my critical thinking skills in different ways. Each activity challenged me to analyze situations, think creatively, and adapt my approach based on logic and strategy.
Learning a magic trick required me to understand the mechanics behind the illusion, anticipate how an audience would perceive it, and practice to make it realistic. It taught me that small details make can make a big difference in the outcome. The Gomoku task reinforced strategic thinking—I initially played randomly, but discovered a trick very soon, I began playing the game with a clearer plan in my mind. This shift in approach showed me how problem-solving can evolve through experience.
The survival game challenges me to evaluate priorities and make decisions even if its hard. Ranking the importance of objects for survival required logical thinking and the ability to defend my choices with sound arguments. Lastly, the wordplay activity tested my ability to think within constraints but develop my creativity using limitations.
Creative learner:
Through designing a 3D-printed gift and modifying a TikTok dance, I explored different ways to think creatively and adapt existing ideas into something new.
Creating a 3D-printed gift required me to think through my creativity to pick a design that will best suit my friend while considering its functionality as a pendant. The process involved trial and error, as I adjusted my design based on limitations and feedback. This experience taught me that creativity isn’t just about imagination—it’s also about the ability of problem-solving and coming up with ideas to overcome obstacles.
Modifying an already existed TikTok dance and learning how to do it involved multiple aspects of creativity. Instead of simply copying the moves, my friends and i had to analyze the plot of the dance, the rhythm, and overall style to create something fun and unique while keeping it fits the song.
Through these experiences, I realized that being a creative learner means taking risks, embracing mistakes, and pushing beyond conventional ideas. I will continue to approach learning with curiosity, flexibility, and a willingness to explore new possibilities.
