Badminton Reflection

This badminton unit we learned about the forehand and backhand grip, and we also learned the forehand and backhand serve. We also learned how to dropshot and make the opponent trip up. We played a bunch of games, and we also did some rallying to just practice our skills.

I think I can mostly do all of these skills proficiently, and I can smash on other opponents. I can mainly win most of my games, and almost won king of the courts last class, but the time was up quickly so I lost to Louis. I think I need to improve on hitting my shots in ways the opponent can’t expect, as sometimes I keep smashing to one part of the court, which makes it easy to predict.

Overall, this unit has been pretty fun and I look forward to playing more games of badminton. I usually like to play badminton for fun a lot, so I enjoyed this unit of PE a lot. I learned a lot of new skills in badminton and I also had a lot of fun playing with a lot of my friends.

Vision Board/SMART Goal Reflection

I have made progress towards my goal of doing all my homework on time and early so that I get time to rest and do other things. I have mainly done this by always checking Schoology’s To Do list, which has helped me see which assignments I need to do. I also keep my papers in my computer bag so I can find paper assignments easier.

Somethings I have faced is when I have a lot of homework to do, which causes me to procrastinate sometimes and doesn’t allow me to rest a lot that day. However, I still usually complete all the homework on time and in good quality.

Some accomplishments I am proud of is never having any late assignments. I only have 2 late assignments and that was because I was sick and couldn’t turn it in but the teacher still counted it as late, which is a little unfair but it’s only 2 assignments. Still, I technically have no late assignments turned in.

I don’t think I need to revise my goal too much, even one semester later. It’s a simple goal that needs persistence to complete, and one which I have kept doing for the entire semester.

Based on what I have reflected on today, I think I just need to keep working and doing my homework as soon as possible everyday so that I can rest for a healthy amount of time after finishing my homework. I will try to procrastinate less on days with a slightly heavier workload, and I will still keep on doing homework on time.

Social Studies Unit 2: Visual Presentation

The objective here was to create way for people to learn about your form of communication and transportation easily and creatively. I chose to build my form of transportation in Minecraft. This is because I like playing video games and I like to build in Minecraft. I put all the pictures of my Minecraft rocket into a presentation so that I don’t have to fly around wildly during my presentation. During my presentation, I think I did okay, as I didn’t stutter a lot and refrained from looking at my flashcards most of the time.

Something I think I did well was covering all the aspects I talked about on the essay, like the negative and positive effects of the rocket, by building their effects in Minecraft. It was also very fun to work on.

Something I think I need to work on next time is to be a bit more confident during my presentation, as I was still very nervous during it and I think I misspoke a couple times and stuttered.

Overall, I think this project was very fun, and it helped me learn even more about rockets than I already knew.

Social Studies Unit 2: Essay

This is the essay I wrote for my Social Studies Unit 2 project about the rocket’s impact on global society. In order to write this essay, I filled out a research organizer. I used 3 articles, 2 from BBC and 1 from NASA to talk about the positive and negative impacts, the solutions for the negative impacts, and who was going to enforce the solutions.

This essay actually took me quite a while to write, as I worked on some of it at home, most of it at school, and I wrote the introduction and conclusion based off of the lessons in Schoology while in the hospital.

Something I think I did pretty well in my essay is that I managed to fill in a lot of information and write most of it out in my essay. This was mainly because I focused well on finishing the graphic organizer and it helped me write a good essay.

Something I think I need to work on was not using the word “us” and other informal words in my essay. I used the word “us” a few times, and since you are not supposed to use personal pronouns in the essay, I need to remember that. I also need to work on being more concise with my evidence, because I wrote a long chunk of it and the reader needs to wait a long time to get to my reasoning.

Overall, I really like my essay and I think it was actually pretty decent.

Math Unit 3: Proportionality and Percentages

What do you understand about the topic?

We learned how to calculate percent change, and also how to calculate interest. Some formula’s we used were Principle x Interest x Time=Interest Earned. We also used Change/Original=%/100 to calculate the interest and the percent change respectively. I feel that I understand percentages and proportions and how to use them in the real world.

What new information do you have?

I learned some new things like the difference between compound interest and simple interest in math, and how to calculate both. Simple interest is calculated by using the formula Principle x Rate x Time, while compound interest is calculated with a much more complex process.

What is interesting about the unit?

Something that was interesting in the unit was that almost all of what we learned can be applied to the real world, like banking would require knowledge about interest and percentages, and so would something like tipping the waiter.

    What was tricky for you?

While not much was super tricky, I needed to double check my work a lot and also had some trouble with parts of the project where you needed to explain your steps, as explaining took a long time as you need to be specific.

    Math Unit 1 Reflection

What do you understand about the topic?

    • I can confidently explain how to calculate proportional relationships with the equation y=kx, and I feel confident in determining if a situation was proportional or not. This is because I knew some of this information before, and this unit just helped solidify and build on

What new information do you have?

    • Some new information and strategies I learnt was using y=kx as an equation to find the constant of proportionality. I also learned what a constant of proportionality was and how to use it to find if the situation is proportional or not. I also learned how to determine or make proportional tables or graphs from lessons and mostly homework.

What is interesting about the unit?

    • Some interesting things I found this unit was that tables was that y=kx was actually a very useful equation for finding proportionality. I find it interesting that such a short and simple equation could be so useful in this unit.

    What was tricky for you?

    • Nothing was super tricky for me this unit, but I just need to read questions more carefully and triple check my work to make sure everything is right before turning things in. I have been having trouble with checking my work, even though I am usually double checking when I have time left over.

    ELA Effective Collaborator Reflection

I think I could at least get a meeting or at the very very minimum an approaching on my effective collaborator or active learner, because of the fact that I can basically work with anybody in projects, such as during some collaborative formatives, even if I didn’t know the other person very well, I would still work with them no matter what. Also, I would always work well with my partners and I always submitted work on time and according to the rubric.

For my active learner, I think I need to participate a bit more during language arts class and answer questions more. But overall, I don’t act out during class and I think I am a pretty good active learner, as I do all my work on time and finish it all. My friends also say this about me and that I need to collaborate just a bit more.

    Portfolio – U2 Summative

I think I did much better on the summatives compared to my formatives because of the fact that I got around a 2.5 on my formatives because of my lack of my first reasoning. After that, I went on the AI bot and practiced a ton at night before assessments, which helped me get much better scores.

Something I am proud of is getting a 4 on my story outline, which I actually thought would make a pretty good story and I am excited to write it in our next unit. I am also proud of getting a 3 on my presentation, because I am pretty bad at presenting in front of a large group, and I was really nervous but still pulled through.

Some challenges I faced was writing reasoning, because I really did not know how to write a long and convincing reasoning in the beginning. However, after I practiced a lot on the bot, I got much better and even got a 4 on my reasoning in my CERER summative.

I effectively used feedback on my reasoning in my formatives to know what to practice and managed to even get from writing reasoning at a 2.5 level to a writing reasoning at a 4 level as I mentioned before.

If I could redo the summative, I would’ve remembered to cite my sources, even if it isn’t a direct quote, which is the reason I got a 3 on my language part. I really felt like I could get a 4 if I practiced more and looked at the rules.

Some advice I would give myself for unit 3 is to practice will all the resources the teachers give us to remember rules and get better at writing. One goal I would give myself for my future work would be to read the rubric more carefully and also try to get above meeting on future summatives.

    Science Unit 2 Reflection

What Essential Question Did I Answer?

The essential question in this unit that I chose to do a project on was: What happens inside our bodies when we get sick? The things we learned about cells and body systems helped in answering this question because we have basic information on how organs function together, their purposes, and what happens if they fail, which is what happens sometimes during certain sicknesses. Learning about how sicknesses work together help to let us learn how the body is one large system by showing how when a sickness happens, how it affects multiple systems. For example, Parkinson’s disease affects the nervous and muscular system mainly. The disease kills neurons and makes it so that our muscles twitch uncontrollably due to the nerves not functioning.

I think writing self directed notes and making models helped me learn a lot, because I am a visual learner that likes when things are broken down into smaller steps and have labels. Writing notes helped me because writing words help me memorize things, and also making models helps me because I am a visual learner. I felt making the models were much more fun than writing notes however.

Something that I could add to my model was 3 dimensions. I originally had a clay model before it broke. If I could do it again, I would be more careful with my first model so that I can have a better model.

    Design Tech RC Car Project

    What did you do?

We built up an RC car and 3d printed some new parts to add to it to make it cooler. I changed added some new parts, and I mainly changed the front bumper so it had 2 spikes poking out that could hit other cars. It was very fun and making the 3d printed objects were very fun.

    What did you learn?

I learned how to create unique shapes in 3d modeling apps and also learned how to chamfer and fillet the edges of objects. This made 3d modeling easier and it was easy and fun to learn these new skills.

    What did you struggle with?

Something that was a bit hard was learning all the new skills. It was a bit hard but eventually I got the hang of it.

This unit was very fun and I liked building the RC car.
