Apprenticeship Activities Review

Creative Learner

As an SAS eagle, designing a t-shirt would be a normal spirit to celebrate our pride in this school. The aspect of this event showed an aspect on how I was being a creative learner. Firstly, designing the t-shirt with requirements to fulfill narrowed our opportunities and forced us to be creative in only a range, furthermore the online designs weren’t really meeting our requirements as it emphasized to be “original designs,” Though I didn’t really have clear design in mind I ended up designing something unique. This shows me as a creative learner as my design was unique and based on my own thoughts. However, through this experience if there was more alotted time, then the design would’ve been more perfected as its just a rough sketch. The second task to prove the reasons why a creative learner suits me is creating a Science fiction short story. There are reasons behind why this task proves to be showing the aspect of creative learner. Firstly, science-fiction is taken place in future world where technology is more advanced than now, the imaginations required to do such things can be called creative as your envisioning your own future world. Through this event I realized that science-fiction required basic or some knowledge about the modern world and a bit of research might be needed. Futhermore, I believe planning out and thinking about the idea is more rather important. These two tasks showcased me as a creative learner and showed how important creativity might be in life.

Effective Collaborator

As people get into jobs and work in places, collaboration is an important aspect of life. The purposes of collaboration between peers and to communicate thoughts is significantly helpful. However, the big question is how can you effectively collaborate between peers and friends. The first task showcases a good demonstration of a good collaborator as I was working with my friend we got things done on time and was able to be glad on the grade. The importance of that task wasn’t the grade we’ve got, rather than the collaboration and what worked well. The first thing that made our collaboration well was staying on task, the friend of mine were one task the entire time and we weren’t goofing off or being off topic. Secondly, we listened each other for any feedback and recommendations. This was able to make the project a success as we ended up finishing early in time. Another task that was effective collaboration is making a fitness routine. As a swimmer, I believe going to the gym with the correct workout is crucial and important. The workout consists working with other people and can showcase and build my skills as an effective collaborator, as I can collaborate with other people to build my experience. These two tasks helped to build an effective collaborator for me.

Skillful Communicator

Communication as a human being is a crucial part of life, as we need to do this every day. However, loads of people struggle to be a skillful communicator and they usually send messages that are not intended to be. As a result, they might not reach their objective in time. To show that I am proficient at communicating to somebody properly, I have completed tasks. The first task I did was presenting my shark tank pitch. The presentation didn’t go well as I thought, however from this I learned many skills while on the stage. Firstly, as a speaker on stage, the first dilemma with everyone is getting nervous. This may result in many people to talk with a faster pace, however, it is not advised to do that. The logic behind why faster pace is not advised is because the faster you talk the less enuniciation you are going to make, which eventually leads up unclear communication. As for matter of fact, talking slower in a comfortable pace is a better alternative. Firstly, you have time to think about what you are going to talk, this extra time can be reflected in better logic and enunciation. As a result, this will make the audience understand what you are talking about. Another trick I learned from this activity is don’t-use filler words when you are thinking or unsure what to talk about. These filler words make you sound unprofessional and will decrease a lot of aura and rizz. The better way is to think and don’t use filler words. Another activity that developed me as a skill communicator is creating a step-by-step guide on how to use an app, in this case I chose a common app used in China. The guide allowed me to think deeply on the details of wechat and made me discover all the details. Though, I eventually finished I realized that creating a step-by-step guide on this perceived “easy ” app in China and to introduce to foreigners can be quite challenging.

Resilient

As for many audience members I believe eating and resilience don’t have a direct connection. But thinking about the origination for the food may help you develop resilience. Firstly, the definition of resilience is to be able to quickly recover from sadness or toughness. Mindfulness perfectly suits this. This task was meant for me to think about where the food comes from, what happened before me eating it and more. This activity made me feel more calm and made me feel I was ready to do the things I needed to do. Another activity that showcased my resilience was creating a vision board. The purpose of the vision board is to look forward and see what to improve on affecting the future. We first had to take the 16 personality test to check the traits we lack on and write a reflection on how to improve and have other inspiring quotes and things. This can make me improve and recover quickly from unfortunate things that happen and may be the brisk of light I need to walk to the future. The two tasks above showcases the ability of my resilience as a person.

Critical Thinker

Thinking is crucial for humans and animals as it can help you make wise decisions. There are few tasks today that showcased my ability to do so. There was this one intriguing task I saw that caught at a glimpse of my eye, and it was a wordplay. This task basically needed you to create a language with only 20 words. This task required a lot of thinking as the purpose of language is to communicate thoughts, however many times grammar can be changed. Therefore, I chose many common daily words to fulfill this task. Another task that showcased me as a critical thinker was a game named “Gomuku”, this game was a Japanese game but I believe it is a very similar game that I played in youth in China. The objective of this game is to get five in a row first, this can be done diagonally, vertically, and horizontally. In this process the opponent can stop you from doing five in a row so tactics are required. From many games lost and won against opponent I came to a realization which the main tactic is to get three in a row without any blockage on both sides and is your turn. This is a 100% winnable position unless the opponent has that position, because no matter how the opponent blocks you will still win. This tactic shows how I am a critical thinker as tactics are relatively important to winning this game, the depth of thinking of tactics showcases me as a learner as a critical thinker. Lastly, I have done a survival ranking from 1-30, from most important to least important. The activity required me to think the human needs for survival and allowed me to make hard decisions of whether which is more important. This showcased the critical part of a thinker as ranking these items were very time-costly. The three activities I have done has correctly showcased myself as a critical thinker.

A Path to Future✈️

It was interesting to see many and distinct skits today at learning lab today. They were unique and intriguing but at the same time they were teaching us rules of technology usage. One of the presentation talked about a group doing their project at the last day due to procrastination. They found a fishy website and one group member wanted to check if it was credible and the other member disagreed. At the end, they checked as proved that it was not a credible source This shows the importance of checking multiple sources to see if it credible. This is important as it can be used in essay writing to check whether sources are credible, this applies in literature and many other courses. Additionally, this aspect shows our schools EUA or what I call TTG. It demonstrates critical thinker as if you need to think about whether if it is credible. Thus, showing the aspect of critical thinker. This unique activity makes me of the future of technology thriving and improving every year. But with great power comes with bigger responsibility. Although technology can bring good benefits, but lets remember the negative affects it might have to you.

Library of Lore Reflection 🥖

After the adventure of the library of lore, we can finally say we ended our long lasting journey. The AI Ethics Dilemma as challenged me, and has told me to utilize tools in a good way. In this I have learned the importance of academic integrity, plagiarism and more. The power of AI may make many evil, but remember with great power comes with great responsibility.

Life As a Freshman9️⃣

Time passes quickly, in no matter of time you are in high school. Middle school is was a great transition from elementary to high school. Middle school and High school have notably many differences. Firstly, middle school has the same amount of class offered in high school; however, high school offers more freedom. Such example include extended learning and learning lab where it gives time for you to do homework in school, adding on you can use your phone and more digital devices freely. Additionally, there are more clubs and extracurricular activities that you can do in high school. However, in high school it is the time where grades and GPA count in, in contrast with middle school where grades aren’t a major thing. After comparing high school with middle school, there are notable things that I am looking forward. As I mention above extracurricular and clubs offer many more options than middle school such as C.A.C., media council, MuAlphaTheta(MAT), etc. Additionally, there are many courses and high school offers distinct classes. Moreover, High School has better trips✈️, looking forward “The Nine 9️⃣” and more. All in all High school offers more freedom than Middle School and there’s a lot of hype🙌 coming in as a freshman.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
