Freshmen Semester 1 Eagle Apprenticeship Reflection

ASA Reflection (JV1 Volleyball)

The volleyball season has been a remarkable journey for me as a setter. Moving from a bench player to the starting lineup as the setter has been an incredible experience. At first, I felt nervous and unsure of my abilities. However, with hard work and dedication, I improved my skills significantly.

As the setter, I learned that I am the center of the team. My role is crucial because I set up the plays for my teammates, especially the attackers. I had to communicate effectively and make quick decisions on the court. This responsibility taught me the importance of teamwork and trust. I also developed my leadership skills, guiding my teammates and encouraging them during tough matches.

Throughout the season, I faced challenges, such as learning to read the game and adjusting my sets to different players’ strengths. Each match helped me grow more confident in my abilities. I celebrated our victories and learned from our losses, understanding that every experience contributes to my development as a player. Overall, this season has not only improved my volleyball skills but has also taught me valuable life lessons about perseverance and teamwork. I’m excited to continue growing in the sport!

Extracurricular : FTC Reflection

Participating in the FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) robotics tournament has been a transformative experience for me. When I first joined my team, I felt anxious about the selection process. I ended up with teammates I didn’t know well, and I worried that our team dynamics would be challenging. Initially, we struggled with cooperation due to different personalities and working styles, which led to misunderstandings.

However, I quickly realized that these challenges could become opportunities for growth. We had to learn how to communicate openly and find common ground. I discovered that listening to each other’s ideas, even when we disagreed, was essential for our progress. We started holding regular meetings where everyone could voice their opinions and contribute to our project. This approach helped us build trust and respect among team members.

As we worked together, we began to see improvements in our robot design and programming. The more we collaborated, the more effective we became. I learned that cooperation is not just about getting along; it’s about leveraging everyone’s strengths to achieve a common goal.

Reaching the regional finals was an incredible achievement and a testament to our hard work and determination. I’m excited to compete in a few months, knowing that our team has grown stronger through our challenges.

Critical Thinker

Completing a Survival Game

Completing the survival game worksheet was a challenging yet rewarding experience that showcased my resilience. The task involved ranking various items based on their importance for survival in a challenging scenario. At first, I felt overwhelmed by the number of items and the pressure to make the right choices. It was difficult to decide which items were truly essential. As I started to analyze each item, I realized that I had to think critically about the situation. I considered factors like the environment, potential threats, and the needs of a group. This process required me to weigh my options carefully and justify my rankings, which pushed me to use my reasoning skills. I also had to listen to the opinions of my classmates during discussions, which made me rethink some of my choices. In the end, I learned that resilience isn’t just about sticking to your initial thoughts; it’s about being open to feedback and adapting your ideas. The experience taught me the importance of collaboration and critical thinking in problem-solving. Overall, I felt proud of my ability to navigate through the challenges, and I gained valuable skills that I can use in future situations.

Learning a Magic Trick

Learning a magic trick for my first time was quite challenging. At first, I was excited but also a bit intimidated. The idea of performing magic seemed challenging, and I wasn’t sure if I could master it. However, I was determined to give it a try, so I chose a card trick that I thought would impress my friends. As I practiced, I quickly realized that magic is not just about the trick itself but also about understanding the mechanics behind it. I had to break down each step, analyze how the trick worked, and think about how to present it effectively. This process required a lot of patience and focus, as I often had to repeat the trick multiple times to get it right. Additionally, I learned the importance of misdirection and timing in magic. I found myself constantly evaluating how to engage my audience while keeping the secret of the trick hidden. Overall, this experience taught me valuable lessons about practice, perseverance, and creativity. I felt proud when I finally performed the trick successfully, and it inspired me to keep challenging myself with new skills and ideas in the future.

Utilizing System Framework to Solve Issues

Working on the System Framework to solve issues helped me think critically. At first, I felt a bit overwhelmed because the framework seemed complicated. I knew I had to break down problems into smaller parts, which sounded challenging. But as I started using the framework, I discovered how helpful it was for organizing my thoughts. The process made me analyze the situation closely, identify important parts, and see how they all connected. For example, when I faced a problem, I mapped out the causes, effects, and possible solutions. This helped me understand the bigger picture and consider different viewpoints. I learned to ask questions like, “What are the main causes?” and “How do different factors affect this problem?” As I continued, I became more confident in my ability to tackle complex issues step by step. It felt great to see how a structured approach could lead to clearer understanding and better solutions. This experience showed me that critical thinking isn’t just about finding answers; it’s also about asking the right questions and exploring different ideas. Overall, I’m proud of what I learned and excited to use these skills in future projects.

Resilience

Self-Reflection on Creating a Vision Board

Creating a vision board was an challenging experience that showed me how resilient I can be. At first, I was really pumped about the idea of putting my dreams and goals into one visual piece. But as I started working on it, I quickly realized that it wasn’t as simple as I thought. I had to think hard about what I wanted to include, which made me reflect on my future and what truly matters to me. There were times when I felt frustrated because narrowing down my ideas was tough. I wanted my board to show different parts of my life, like my education, sports, and personal growth, but figuring out what to focus on was challenging. Instead of giving up, I took a break to clear my mind and think about my priorities. This experience taught me that it’s important to keep pushing through difficulties and stay focused on what I really want. As I found images and quotes that inspired me, I started to feel more motivated and clear about my goals. My vision board became a powerful reminder of what I want to achieve and the effort I need to put in. Overall, this task helped me build my resilience and showed me that with determination, I can turn my dreams into reality.

Self-Reflection on Paying It Forward

Participating in the “Pay It Forward” task highlighted my resilience. When I decided to buy lunch for a classmate who couldn’t afford it, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. I knew I wanted to do something kind, but I wasn’t sure how it would be received. When I approached the student, I was surprised by how grateful they were. Their smile made me realize how small acts of kindness can have a huge impact on someone’s day. In that moment, I felt a sense of connection and empathy that I hadn’t fully experienced before. It reminded me that everyone has their struggles, and sometimes a little help can make a big difference. This experience also taught me about resilience. It wasn’t just about helping someone else; it challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and take action. I had to overcome my self-doubt and fear of judgment. Knowing that my act of kindness could inspire someone else to pay it forward motivated me even more. Overall, this task helped me understand the importance of kindness and how resilience can lead to positive change in both our lives and the lives of others.

Creative Learner

Designing a New App

Designing a new app for my 9th-grade project was a great experience that really helped me explore my creativity. At first, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. The idea of creating something from scratch was a bit overwhelming, but it also made me eager to dive in. As I started brainstorming ideas, I found myself getting more and more into the process. I enjoyed thinking about what problems I could solve or what fun features I could add. One of the biggest lessons I learned was the importance of understanding who would use my app. I tried to imagine what users would want and need, which made me think more deeply about my design. This helped me realize that creating an app isn’t just about cool features; it’s also about making something that really helps people. Sketching out my ideas and designing the user interface was exciting. I felt proud as I brought my ideas to life. This task boosted my confidence in my creative skills and showed me that I can tackle challenges in fun and innovative ways. Overall, this experience has inspired me to keep exploring my creativity and to take on more tasked related to this one in the future.

Creating a Book Cover

Creating a book cover for my 9th-grade project was a fun and meaningful experience, especially since it was centered around basketball, a sport I love. At the beginning, I felt excited but also a bit challenged. I wanted my cover to reflect my passion for the game while also being visually appealing. As I started brainstorming ideas, I realized how much I enjoyed thinking about the elements that represent basketball—like the court, the ball, and the energy of the game. While designing the cover, I thought a lot about what would attract readers. I wanted to capture the thrill of playing and watching basketball. I experimented with different colors and fonts that conveyed excitement and movement. This process helped me understand the importance of creativity in making something stand out. Working on this project also made me appreciate the connection between sports and art. I realized that both require imagination and the ability to express feelings. Overall, creating this book cover boosted my confidence in my artistic skills and showed me that I can combine my interests in unique ways. I’m proud of what I created, and this experience has inspired me to explore more creative projects in the future.

Skillful Communicator

Interviewing A Family Member

Interviewing my grandma  was an eye-opening experience that really showed me the importance of being a skillful communicator. When I first approached her, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. I had prepared questions about her life in the 1950s in China, but I wasn’t sure how she would respond or if she would want to share her memories. As we started talking, I realized how important it was to listen actively. My grandma shared fascinating stories about her childhood, the culture of that time, and the challenges she faced. I found myself completely engaged, asking follow-up questions that helped me understand her experiences better. This made me appreciate the value of clear communication—not just asking questions, but also showing genuine interest in her answers. Hearing her stories made me feel connected to my heritage, and I gained a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and resilience of my family. This experience taught me that effective communication is not just about talking; it’s also about listening and connecting with others on a personal level. Overall, I am proud of how I handled the interview, and I look forward to using these skills in future conversations.

Library Session

Reflecting on the library session task I realized the importance of keeping note what I have completed. Although I don’t remember all the details of what we did, I know that this experience was meant to help us improve our communication skills. I now see that taking notes could have helped me capture key moments and insights from that day. Not remembering the specifics makes me appreciate how easily important experiences can fade from my mind. I should have written down my thoughts, feelings, and any lessons I learned during the session. This would not only have helped reinforce the skills I was developing but also created a valuable resource to look back on in the future. Going forward, I’ve learned that note-taking is essential for personal growth. It allows me to reflect on my experiences and track my progress over time. I plan to make it a habit to jot down important points during tasks or discussions, as this will help me become a more effective communicator. I hope to use this lesson as a reminder to stay organized and engaged, ensuring I can build on my skills in the future.

Effective Collaborator

T-Shirt Design

Working on the grade t-shirt design project for my 9th-grade class was a valuable experience that highlighted my skills as an effective collaborator. At first, I felt excited about the idea of creating something that represents our entire grade, but I quickly realized that it was more challenging than I anticipated. Collaborating with my classmates -Darryl- required us to come together and share our ideas, which was both fun and difficult. Everyone had different opinions about what the design should look like, and it was hard to find common ground. I found myself listening to my peers, considering their suggestions, and trying to incorporate various elements into our design. This taught me the importance of being open-minded and respectful of others’ ideas. When it was time to vote for the best design, the pressure increased. I wanted to make sure our choice truly represented our grade’s spirit. Ultimately, even though it was tough to agree on one design, the process strengthened our teamwork and made me appreciate the diverse perspectives in our class. This experience taught me that effective collaboration requires compromise and understanding. I’m proud of what we created together and the bonds we formed through this project.

Creating a Mini Program for the International Fair

Working on the mini program for the International Fair was an incredible experience that truly showcased my ability to collaborate effectively. Teaming up with two other seniors presented both opportunities and challenges. At first, I felt excited about the project because the International Fair is such a significant event for our school. I knew our program could play a vital role in helping attendees navigate the fair. However, as we began working together, we quickly faced challenges. We had different ideas about how the program should look and what information to include. At times, this led to disagreements, and I felt frustrated. But instead of letting these conflicts derail us, we decided to communicate openly. We set aside time to discuss our ideas and compromises, which ultimately helped us create a more comprehensive program. This experience taught me the importance of patience and understanding in collaboration. I learned that effective teamwork requires everyone to feel heard and valued. By the end of the project, I felt proud of what we accomplished together. The challenges we faced made our final product even more rewarding, and I gained valuable skills that I will carry with me in future group projects.
