Apprenticeship Activities Reflection

Creative Learner:
Making the 3D printed gift on the CAD platform sparked my creativity and it was a fun task to do. Being a creative learner is essential for exploring new ideas, solving problems, and thinking outside the box. Engaging in creative tasks not only enhances imagination but also encourages innovation and originality. The process of brainstorming, experimenting with different approaches, and embracing unconventional solutions is not only important for personal growth but also for inspiring others. Creative tasks are fun because they allow me to unleash my imagination, experiment with various mediums, and express myself in unique ways. The sense of freedom and possibility that comes with creative learning makes the process enjoyable and fulfilling.

Resilient:
The vision board helped me envision and motivate me to try to accomplish the things showed on my vision board and demonstrated resilience. Resilience is crucial for overcoming challenges, adapting to change, and bouncing back from setbacks. It involves maintaining a positive attitude, persevering in the face of adversity, and learning from failures. Cultivating resilience is important for personal growth and success in various aspects of life. While facing challenges may be tough, the process of building resilience is rewarding and empowering. It is fun because it presents opportunities for self-discovery, growth, and building inner strength. Each challenge overcome is a testament to resilience and provides a sense of accomplishment and confidence.

Critical Thinker:
The survival game sparked my critical thinking and was extremely fun to do. Critical thinking is vital for analyzing information, solving complex problems, and making informed decisions. It involves evaluating evidence, considering different perspectives, and reasoning logically. Developing critical thinking skills is important for navigating the complexities of the modern world and fostering intellectual growth. Engaging in tasks that require critical thinking is enjoyable because they stimulate the mind, provoke curiosity, and encourage exploration. The process of dissecting information, questioning assumptions, and arriving at well-reasoned conclusions is not only intellectually stimulating but also satisfying.

Skillful Communicator:
The Buzzfeed quiz helped me communicate my personality well. Effective communication is key for expressing ideas, building relationships, and achieving shared goals. Being a skillful communicator involves listening actively, articulating thoughts clearly, and adapting communication styles to different audiences. Developing communication skills is important for conveying messages effectively and fostering understanding. Engaging in tasks that require communication skills is fun because they provide opportunities for self-expression, connection with others, and the exchange of ideas. The process of honing communication abilities, whether through verbal, written, or nonverbal means, enhances interpersonal relationships and builds confidence in conveying thoughts and emotions.

Effective Collaborator:
Teaching Chinese to my middle school peers was a fun task to do since I got to engage and communicate well with the people below my grade, and it helped me practice my collaboration. Collaboration is essential for working effectively in teams, achieving common objectives, and leveraging diverse skills and perspectives. Being an effective collaborator involves fostering trust, promoting open communication, and valuing collective success. Developing collaboration skills is important for building strong relationships, fostering creativity, and achieving shared goals. Engaging in collaborative tasks is fun because they offer opportunities for synergy, shared learning, and collective problem-solving. The process of working together with others, pooling resources, and celebrating joint achievements creates a sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment.

AI commitments this year📲✨📺

My goal for this year is to always double-check important information from AI with a trusted grown-up or reliable source. Whenever I read information in AI I will search it on Google to see if any information correlates with the information I received. I will do this by putting sticky notes on my computer to remind me every time I use AI. Something that might stop me from achieving this goal is forgetting, or being lazy.

Digital Citizenship📲

When online, we should be mindful of our digital footprints and maintain a clean and transparent footprint. We should also be careful about what we say and do online since some information may be perceived in another way through editing and cutting. Additionally, we should keep our passwords to ourselves since there may be intentional or unintentional data leaks.

Library of Lore Reflection

Q: The Citation Cypher tested your ability to properly credit sources. Why do you think this skill is crucial for a scholar-adventurer?

A: Crediting sources is crucial since it practices acts of integrity and credit. Giving an author credit is a practice of integrity by saying that the work used doesn’t belong to the writer, and belongs to the original author.

🧡✨📀Middle School Reflections

Before I started middle school, I was scared of what it would be like. I imagined it as what I currently imagine high school to be like. I thought middle school would be full of homework and projects, but it turned out to be way better. I wish I’d known that middle school would’ve been fun and that it’s not the stereotypical “middle school: the worst years of my life.”

🧷💙💿TTGs

My strengths are communicating and collaborating, and I prefer to work with others on projects rather than by myself. Creative learning is an area of improvement for me, I can learn to use more creative strategies to evaluate and do different processes, and to execute ideas more clearly and consicely.

💌☁️🤍✨High School Excitement

I’m looking forward to joining clubs in high school and participating in things I like. I’m also looking forward to leaving campus during break in senior year. However, I’m pretty nervous about maintaining my gpa and grades in class and balancing my academic and personal life.

Cohort 2 Initiative Steps

Has your process begun the way that you expected?

Our project has not gone in the way we expected. We had a lot planned including a donation box to donate old tennis balls. However, after talking to Ms. Naomy, we learned that our project was more leaned towards being a service rather than a passion project. We decided to eliminate the donation box and instead mainly focus on the tennis ball prototype, which helps us learn more about our passion.

Have you changed your action plan going forward?

We got rid of the donation box plan and decided to focus more on other sectors of our project to make it higher in quality.

What are the next steps you will need to take on the project?

We have to finish our infographic and documentary, then transition to researching the anatomy of a tennis ball.

Any other observations or reflections on the project?

Getting passion projects and service projects confused is common, and we have to learn to adjust our project to fit under “passion project” instead of service project.

Passion Project Pitch Proposal Reflection

I received positive and useful feedback yesterday during my pitch proposals. The feedback was helpful and gave me new insights into how to develop and expand my project further.

I learned that I could create backup plans in case my plans don’t work since what I’m trying to achieve is a complicated process. I also received feedback on how I could split up my group’s workload because it can be very unbalanced and we want to make sure that everyone does a fair amount of work.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
