Unit 2 Math Reflection

U: What did I understand in this unit?

In this unit, I understand how to find scale factors, convert fractions, decimals, and percentages, and the proportionality of Scale drawing and diagrams.

N: What new information did you learn in this unit?

Some new information I learned in this unit is add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions. Another information I learned in this unit is converting percentage, decimal, and fractions.

I: What was interesting in this unit?

Something interesting in Unit 2 is converting fraction, decimal, and percentages. It’s interesting because all these different things can represent the same things. Like the percentage is how many over 100, which you can also represent with fractions. And decimals use one as 100%.

T: What was tricky for you in this unit?

Something that is tricky for me is converting fractions to decimals without using a calculator. The reason for that is because some fractions like 6/7 is hard to calculate using your hands.

Unit 3 Volleyball Reflection

How did I manage to control the ball during your two-hand volleys when the game was moving fast? What helped you stay focused?

You make your hand a shape of the looser sign but use all of your fingers. Then, your bent your kneese when you hit it and release it with a push.

Describe a moment during the game when you successfully used a two-hand volley to keep the play going. What did you do to maintain control?

When we are serving the ball, unfortunatly our opponent cached the ball and I must use the two hand volley to pass it to my partner to hit the ball.

Table Tennis Reflection

What are we learning

In this unit of table tennis, I’ve learned how to serve the ball, pass the ball, and spin the ball. These basic skills really helped me to develop my knowledge on table tennis like we can spin the ball when hitting to increase the ball speed or decrease the ball speed.

Something that’s working

Something that working is I am really good at serving since I am spinning the ball to increase the speed. Another thing that’s working is I can make the ball very low and hard to hit for the opponent. Lastly, I know the rule clearly so that the opponent won’t cheat on me.

UNIT 5 – How did geographical and cultural barriers influence the economy of the Silk Road? Reflection

What are we doing?

In Social Studies, we are learning about Silk Road and did many activities like Splendor, Mapping out the Silk Road and doing three rounds of Silk Road simulation to see which group have the most points. Splendor is a board game that is about getting different emeralds and using it to trade goods. There are different kind of points to choose to buy. Mapping out the Silk Road means that we get a world map and we need to label all the features of it, like mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans, and large bodies of water. Finally we did the Silk Road simulation which each country needs to trade cards with other countries and whoever get the most points wins.

What are we learning?

We learned about the geographical barriers located along the ancient Silk Road by creating a 3D map, where regions are located and what goods do it have, and how a region can change base on its goods, technology, and beliefs.

What’s working?

In the Splendor activity, something that’s working is I can win the most points in the least amount of time, the way to do that is just find the most worthing card and buy it. Do not buy a lot of low points card because that will decrease your pionts. In the Silk Road simulation, I can understand how to effectively trade goods we want and how to scan people in many ways, to trade goods you want, you need to have the goods the other people want so you need to get that first. And to scan somebody, you can hide a disease card under the card you’re going to trade them.

What’s not working?

In the geographical features part, I am not able to remember all of the features like the mountains, rivers, lakes e.x.

Personal relevance

Learning Silk Road won’t really help me achieve my goals in life. But it can help me improve my Social Studies test score so I won’t get a low score on my social studies class.

  1. The three norms of Collaboration is pausing, paying attention to others, and putting ideas on the table.
  2. I am strongest at paying attention to myself and others because I don’t want to miss all the information my team said and I can participate if I listen carefully.
  3. I need to improve on putting ideas on the table because I don’t share ideas a lot when I am in a group and I want to help my group to improve on out project.
  4. During the Ancient Silk Road Unit, the learning activity that I like the most is the Silk Road simulation because in that simulation, we have diseases and we can scan people.

How can Change makers improve our world?

What are we doing?

In Social Studies, we are studying about the Change maker we chose and created a MMR. Before we made the MMR, we studied completely about our Change maker. However, when we are creating the MMR, we decided to do something that is fresh, making it 3D.

What are we learning?

We are learning that our planet that we are living on is dying because of our action, and we will choose a change maker to study on for the rest of our unit. In the second lesson, I chose Jacques Cousteau as my change maker. At last, my partner and I created a 3D MMR about Jacques Cousteau.

What’s working?

I have a better understanding of an oceanography and its importance. I learned how to make a MMR with 3 layers. Furthermore, I got creative and make it with 3 different sides, it is very different compared to a normal MMR. For conclusion, I got all the criteria for a MMR.

What’s not working?

There is some little problem in this MMR project. Next time I will stick more interesting pictures to make it more entertaining for the viewer. Furthermore, I feel like we should have written the words better to it cooler.

Personal Relevant

I think is extremely relevant for learning about Jacques Cousteau because he is a good model for us to follow and be creative. I think it is very engaging to learn about an oceanographer because I love the ocean and wanted to protect it. As a result, we need to care for the ocean because is covered 73% of earth.

Drama Portfolios

What are we doing?

We are doing a play about an African story and the main character is Sandiata. The type of performance is Platform Theatre. He is a boy that doesn’t know how to walk when he was small but he slowly learned how to walk and became a king when grown up.

What are we learning?

We are leaning about many techniques like spatial transformation. and be more dramatic so that audience that are far away will understand your movements. These techniques helped us too improve our play.

What’s working?

I am able to move from space to space quickly not making clumsy moves. I have a loud voice and dramatic movements. In the play I am well organized and not making trouble.

What’s not working?

I need to work on to communicate with others so that people will know what they’re doing not just staring at the wall. I also need to pay more attention to my teammates idea so we can make the play even better.

Personal Relevance

Drama can help me achieve my goals in life if I become a drama person. It could also help me achieve my goals in life if I became a drama teacher so that I cam earn money from teaching kids.

Chinese

What are you doing?

I are writing a composition about our topic that we chose about Chinese intangible cultural heritage. I need to write at least 500 words and I have to use many techniques to get a high score.

What are you learning?

I am learning all about Silk, like how was silk made, the Silk Road, the history of silk, and the types of silkworms. Then we are learning how to write a good composition, you need to have a good vocabulary and writing techniques.

What’s working?

I am able to have a good amount of words written and I am not stuck on any of the things to write a composition. My vocabulary is pretty good so I know about 95% of all the words in the composition.

What’s not working?

I think I need to improve on writing words because their are a bunch of vocabulary I don’t know how to write.

Personal relevance

Chinese is my first language and when I am in my home town I need to be able to speak Chinese to communicate with others. This will help me not to be to annoyed from not understanding other people.

PE

What are you doing?

I am playing basketball in PE and learning passes and shooting.

What are we learning?

I learned many passes like chest pass, overhead pass, and bounce pass. I also learned about how to shoot in the basket. I have played basketball games with each other and improved.

What’s working?

What’s not working?

I think I really need to improve one shooting balls, because I only got very few shots in the basket from the game. I could improve the ability to shoot by practicing more and learning the wright shooting position.

Personal Relevance

Basketball might help achieve my goals in life because maybe I became a basketball player in the future and very famous. It could also help if I became a basketball teacher so that basketball would help me earn money.

I am proud of my ability to snap the ball from other people. I am able to be a good defender when playing the game and I can pass the ball accurately to my partners.

Semester 2 Goals

My strength

In my other school my greatest strength is math and science.

My weakness

I want to improve my English’s writing Speaking and listening. To do that, I need to be more concentrated in class and communicate more in English. But the most important way to let my English improve are reading books. It can help me improve my vocabulary and my structure on writing essays.

Using my strength to help weakness

I can improve my English by my strength by reading a book in English and my home language, because that will tell me what I’m missing and what I don’t understand in the book. This is a very effective way to study vocabulary because I not only read a book but also know in Chinese so when I read the second time I can use my memory on the Chinese book to guess the meaning of the word.

New study habits to try out to help me succeed.

To study, you first need to have a good sleep. Having a good rest will let you be energetic in the next morning, preparing you from school. Second, after having hard working in school, you should relax for one hour and go outdoors, that will help to not get stressed from learning. After playing outdoors, you should work for the rest of the time before getting to sleep.

Goal in Semester 2

In Semester 2, I will try my best to read in my personal time and do all of my homework in school. I will revise for tests to get a score that isn’t too low. Lastly, I will never play games or watch videos when we are not allowed to.

How could people help me accomplish my goal?

My mum can help me accomplish my goal by reminding me doing my homework or reading my book. My teachers could help me on posting the revising work online.
