Badminton – Reflection

What we learn:

We learned the how to do a back hand and fore hand serve. Also we learned back hand and fore hand grip.

What went well:

Something that went well was serving because I found that I could do it pretty well.

What did not go well:

What did not work well is that sometime when I try to hit the shuttle back I miss sometimes.

What helped:

Something that help is that my friends incourged me when I missed.

What do I want to improve on:

I want to improve me reciving because I am not that good at it.

Unit 4 Dystopian Fiction – Reflection

What did I learn about dystopian fiction?

I learned that it made use think a lot about the world that we live in and also maybe consider that how much better we live then in the people do in the book. It also makes us under stand a bit better about the world we are living in.

How does dystopian fiction invite me to think about real life?

It made me think about what our “feelings do”. For example, conflict can be caused by love because maybe a person has hurt someone you love and you want revenge. This made me realize that getting rid of love and/or feeling may be a good solution to end the war happening in the would. At the beginning of the unit STP gave us a “test” it was about and we learned about North Korean and how it connected with dystopian fiction.

I enjoyed/did not enjoy The Giver?

I enjoyed The Giver a lot because the dystopian characteristics were really creepy sometimes but after we thought a little it was clear that this would actually be preferred.

How have I improved my ability to write academic paragraph?

I improved on the amount of transition words I use in my academic pharagraph.

How am I better now interacting with others (Group Discussion)?

I can validate people by saying “Nice, I didn’t think of that.” I improved on my paraphrasing.

Volleyball – Reflection

I learned how to do underhand serve better. Before all my underhand serve went sideways and now I can mostly serve straight. I am proud of how I improved on my underhand serve and I do well with my team when I choose my team. Something that I can work on is my team work and collaboration with people who i don’t normally play with or choose to play with.

Bake Sale project-Reflection

What did we do:

Daisy and I did a bake sale project in which we baked different snacks and dessert. First we came up with a kind of food that we wanted to both make and we came up with mug cake. Secondly we had to list all the ingredients. Third, we thought of a name and came up with “Da Bakaree”.

We used math to do this by using what we learned with rates, like unit rate, and we also used converting like, tablespoons to grams. We also used things like markup price and markup percents to figure out what our price is. I learned how to make a markup price and how to calculate the profit that we made. I also learned how to make a mug cake.

What’s Working:

Something that worked well was we did most of the homework at school so at home we only needed to print at home. Also Daisy and I worked well together on this project.

Area’s of Growth:

Something that did not work well was when we baked at the last second. We should have planed before hand so that the baking would not have been so rushed.

Personal Relevance:

This is relevant because this project is fun and exiting to bake and work with Daisy.

Social Studies Unit 2 – Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on:
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was court reporter
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because:
  • We can learn the origin of humans and their culture
  • We can learn how prehistoric people lived – differences and similarities
  • Same diseases
  • Same human conflict
  • They were very resourceful, very innovative, and very skilled
  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work:
  • My CER paragraph
  • My observations, inferences, and questions
  • My newspaper
  1. I am proud of the work above because I think I did a great job and put in a lot of effort. I am proud of my CER paragraph because I think I put what I know into it. I am equally proud of my observation paragraph because I really thought of what I saw in the picture and made an inference based on my observation. I am especially proud of my newspaper because I think I did well in the pictures and what I wrote in the newspaper. The organization was good, and I also put in an “advertisement” to make it more believable.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging:
  • My CER paragraph
  • Inferencing
  • Being the “Jury”
  1. I found the work above challenging because sometimes it was difficult to not put what I already know into my opinion when I was being the “jury”. My CER paragraph was hard because the reasoning was difficult to think of / come up with ideas of why the piece of evidence is important. Inferencing was hard because sometimes when I observe something then I have no idea what is happening in the photo.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because if I have a question my communication skills will help me ask someone who knows.
  1. This is a photo of my work:

Soccer Reflection

What did I learn:

I learned how to pass and some rules of playing matches.

What help:

I think that my team helped and supported me.

What is something I am proud of:

I am proud of how my team and I collaborated.

What is something I can work on:

I can work on dribbling better because every time I’m running after the ball. Also I want to work on better aiming because sometime my ball goes in different directions.

Egg Car – Reflection

What we did:

We made an egg car with three sheets of paper, four wheels, two axels, two straws, and one meter of tape.

What did I learn:

Newtons first and second law is connected to the egg car. The fist law is seen when the car stops but the egg wants to keep going like the law states an object that is in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by another force. The third law was seen when the car bounces back like the law states that every action has an equal and opposite force.

What worked:

What went well for our egg car design was that The egg was not cracked when it hit the brick. Also it fit most of the criteria but the wheels of the car was not touching the ramp all the time.

What did not work:

Something that did not work was that the wheels did not stay on the ramp. I think I would like to make some changes to that part.

Personal Relevance:

I now know the crumple zone plays a big role of the safety of the passenger. Also the seatbelt, the airbag, and the crumple zone can’t be so hard or that might hurt instead of help. It is important to know Newtons law because they are used to develop different safety objects like the airbag.

Balloon Car – Reflection

What did I do?

I made a balloon car with my partners Scarlett and Daisy. We used two thin straws for wheels along with two stick and two wheels. These made it possible for the car to move. We also used a piece of cardboard for the bottom and a balloon to give the car more force to move forwards.

What did I learn?

I learned newtons first, second, and third law. The first law is that if a object is moving then the object will stay in motion unless another force acts upon it and if an object is at rest it will stay in rest unless a unbalanced force acts upon it. A example of newtons first law is that a ball will stop if you roll it this is because gravity and normal is a balanced force and it’s acting on the ball as well. The second law is that a bigger mass the harder to accelerate it. For example a truck will be harder to accelerate because of the bigger mass, on the other hand a small car will accelerate faster because of the smaller mass. The third law is the law of action and reaction. For example the tug of war that we did when we first started the unit. The action was pulling and the reaction was the movement when it was an unbalanced force.

What worked

Scarlett, Daisy, and I did a good job in collaboration with each other and staying on task. Another thing that we did well was communication. We split jobs so that we could finish faster. Also so that each person was doing something and not just standing around.

What did not work

Something that did not work so well was the design of the balloon car. I think this is because the way we cut the car and the air could not slide beside the car and build up air resistance. Also I need to work on neat organization of my data.

Personal Relevance

The balloon car was like swimming in the real world, when I push off the wall you push backwards but you move forwards. I see Newton’s third law in real life when I bounced a ball and the ball bounces back at the same force. It is important to know these Laws because it helps me to understand how multiple things work like how putting on a seat belt is important.

Growth and Development

. Why is it important to understand the changes that occur during puberty?

It is important because then you can be ready when the changes happen.

. What is the change that you feel most confident about?

I am most confident about growth spurts.

. What is the change that you feel most concerned about?

I am most concerned about period cramps.

. When looking for information online, how can you ensure it is credible and appropriate?

When you are looking for credible info you can see if there it is more well known and also see if there is multiple sites of the same thing.

. What is one aspect of your learning you want to improve on moving forward?

I want to improve on presenting in front of the class.

Creative Writing Reflection

What are we doing

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning?

Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers)

Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits)

Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)

Setting (the world that I create for my story)

What’s Working:

I really enjoyed planing and writing the part where she enters the portal and see everything going crazy.

Some story elements that I am proud of is the descriptions that I wrote of the surroundings.

I got the idea from some parts of my life like parts of the dream.

The Best Line from My Story: “Because I now know that you do everything for me.” I continued, “I love you.”

Areas of growth

What story elements were challenging to plan and write? The writing the about the shapes and sound was hard to describe.

How did you deal with these challenges? I asked my family for inspiration.

What is your least favorite part of the story? Some parts of the story I should have wrote even more description.

Personal relevance

How can creative writing help you in real life? This can help me because it makes me more creative.

Do you enjoy creative writing – would you possibly like to continue using your imagination to tell stories that matter to you? I would like to continue writing this story.
