Designing a Story Problem-Math

1. Describe your story and what real-life situation it modeled?

We decided to pivot our topic around snow plowing, including, the speed of the snow plow on different types of roads, such as the main street, hilly roads, residential road, and so on. We also included incidents such as the machine malfunctioning, the snow plower taking a lunch break, and a stop at starbucks to drink coffee.

2. What part of your project are you most proud of? Why?

I am most proud of our story plot because I feel like its really creative and it feels satisfying to fulfill the criteria and requirements at the same time in the project.

3. What was the hardest part of creating your piecewise function?

Creating the piecewise function wasn’t challenging, but we did have some changes regarding the time periods of when the breaks and malfunctions happened.

4. If you could revise one part of this project, what would you improve and how?

I feel like we did pretty well on the project, I would probably do the same next time.

Math Unit 2 Reflection & Semester 2 goals 🧮

Part 1: Unit 2 Topic A and B Test Reflection (Functions & Statistics)

A. Evidence of Your Best Thinking

Select two questions from your Unit 2 test that best show your thinking.

  1. I chose Question 3 as evidence of my best thinking because I described a scattered plot using mathematical language, for instance, by naming the association, outlier, cluster, and the definition of the slope.
  1. I chose Question 4 as evidence of my best thinking because I calculated a problem by looking at the line of best fit on the scattered plot, and created an algebraic equation to find the answer.

B. Skills Reflection

Complete each sentence honestly and thoughtfully.

  1. Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at statistics.
  1. One skill from this unit that I still need to work on is showing my work, and deepen my knowledge regarding correlation vs. causation.
  1. The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was reading every question clearly, because all of the mistakes I made was from not reading the question clearly.
  1. One strategy that helped me on this test was checking my work when I’m done with the test, because I sometimes make careless mistakes that I’m not cautious of when calculating.

Part 2: Goal Reflection & End-of-Semester Check-In

A. Looking Back at Your Last Goal

Last unit, you set this goal: In the next unit, I want to improve on my critical thinking skills and be careful with each problem.

  1. How well did you work toward this goal?
☐ Very well ✅ Somewhat ☐ I struggled with this
  1. What helped you make progress toward this goal?

I started from not checking my work after the assessment, to going over problems that involves a number of calculations, and checking it to make sure that I avoided careless mistakes.

B. End-of-Semester Self Reflection

  1. List three strengths you have shown last semester: Calculating functions, describing scattered plots, determining whether or not the correlation coefficient is strong.
  1. List three areas you still want to improve: I want to improve on showing my work, describing residual plots more in-depth, and be more careful when reading problems.

C. New Academic Goal Moving Forward: Reading questions carefully, and thoroughly.

Complete all parts:

  1. In the next unit I want to be more careful when completing math problems.
  1. What might get in the way of this goal?

Rushing through the questions.

  1. What will I do if I get stuck or need help?

I will make sure to read the problem twice for every single problem.

Digital Art: Self Portrait Reflection

  • Audience Insight: What key message do you want your audience to understand about you as they view your artwork? How did you communicate this message?
  • I want my audience to know that I am extroverted and enjoys going outside and having fun. My portrait contains a lot of floral elements, since I want to illustrate that I am emotional, passionate, and detail-oriented. I also added a volleyball, since its my favorite sport and that I also love bonding with my friends. The island behind me symbolizes my obsession towards travelling and having fun. The music note describes how I enjoy listening to music and expresses that I am energetic. The christmas tree and the present shows that I love holidays especially christmas, which demostrates that I love the delighting ambience, and am cheerful. The pieces of cut off newspaper also shows that I enjoy reading.
  • Risk and Experimentation: During the creation of your artwork, how did you take risks and experiment in order to effectively express your intended message?
  • This is my first time drawing self portraits and it also makes it even harder as this is digital, since I am not familiar with digital art. I started off with red as my main color, however as I progressed, red didn’t seem to be the best fit. This is where I decided to restart, and change the entire color theme. It turned out that I was right, red was too bold for my light-colored canvas. I risked deleting my entire art piece, however the outcome was great.

Kool Koor Artist Visit

1. Cultural Influence on Aesthetic Choices

After meeting Kool Koor and learning about his artistic journey, how do you think his background in the graffiti culture of the Bronx influenced his aesthetic choices in the techniques and styles he demonstrated?

He is born in a family with a lot of artists and later on, graffiti art caught his interest. Graffiti art is known to be an action including speed, risk, and all sorts of challenges. He’s artwork is very unique and creative, he works on various spaces, for instance, walls and 3D dimensional structures. As he says in the video, “I draw the guideline in one color, and build upon it”, and tags his name on clean spaces. His source of inspiration is “cosmos” as described in the video, “never fully explored” and “a sea of information”.

2. Environmental Impact on Art Creation

Considering Kool Koor’s shift from street art to studio work, how do you think different environments (like the streets versus a classroom) impact an artist’s creative process and choices? In what ways did you feel these environmental influences while trying out his painting style?

There is a substantial change in style, starting with being more clean rather than violent, as used in graffiti due to circumstances requiring speed. From his early paintings, he started with explosions, however, later on as his style gradually changed, it developed to an expression of freedom.

3. Personal Reflection on Aesthetic Development

What aspects of your culture or environment do you think will influence your future artistic choices for your self-portrait mixed media artwork? How can you incorporate elements from your own background into your artwork to express your unique identity?

China is time honored and has a rich heritage, the country involves favor towards animals and flowers, this is also one of the reasons why I like to incorporate flowers into my art work. I have a lot of interests and passions such as my favorite season: winter, and my favorite holiday: christmas. I often enjoy adding winter elements and christmas vibes into my artwork. I also love warm colors so my self portrait could also be warm color-themed. My interests could stay with me for a significant amount of time and could potentially influence my future artistice choices.

Sticker Project Reflection🖼️

Something that I like about the project is that I feel like it was a really fun process, turning something that you like to a sticker, and then creating a graph of it was really fun. I enjoyed performing transformations around the graph and playing around with adding new elements to the toppings of my pancake. Something that I would do different is that I would draw my pancakes more precisely (to scale) since I feel like every pancake looks different on my notebook.

Unit 1 Reflection & Goal setting

Select two questions from the Unit 1CeLebRAtiOn 🎉 of Learning that reflect your best thinking in this unit:

1.    I chose question 2 (performing a dilation centered at a non-origin point) as evidence of my best thinking because I had no idea of how to perform a dilation from a non-origin point at the start of the unit. This demonstrates that I have improve my math skills regarding dilations.

2.    I chose question 6 (proving congruence of two triangles) as evidence of my best thinking because I didn’t know how to prove congruence at the start of the unit and had some problem with it.

Complete each of these sentences.

3.    Throughout this unit, I improved the most at proving relationships/congruence of triangles.

4.    I feel that I still need to work on naming angles in transversals because in one of the answers I meant to write “alternate interior” but instead of that I wrote “consecutive interior”.

5.    3 strengths this year is rotations, translations, and dilations.

6.    I want to improve on making simple mistakes and errors due to the lack of reading the problem thoroughly.

 7.    Create an academic goal by completing the sentences and answering the questions.

In the next unit, I want to improve on my critical thinking skills and be careful with each problem.

What might get in the way of this goal?

Me rushing through problems unintendedly and not fully reading through the question.

What can I do if I get stuck or need help?

I could force myself to re-read the question again to fully understand.

Art Field Trip-Reflection

In what ways can an exhibition influence the ideas, beliefs, and experiences of the audience?

Exhibitions provides a variety of selected art pieces were the audience learns and enhances their knowledge towards a topic of art. For the art field trip, I went to the “Paths to Modernity” and “After the Red Moon” exhibition.

What I learned from the trip to the Museum of Art Pudong:

In the exhibit “After the red moon”, I was admired to see massive art works being showcased, where every detail was carefully displayed. Far away, the art piece looked like waves floating in the air, while in closeup, its hundreds or thousands of bottle caps, metal clips, copper wire, and foils carefully attached one by one together. After seeing the gigantic art pieces, the only question I had in mind was the amount of time they dedicated to create this art piece, persistence, effort, with thousands of details, hand made. I also learnt how the perspective of how you look at the art work creates a contrasting view. For instance, Act 1, when you look at it from the first floor it looks like detailed materials piecing waves together above, in the ceiling, however when you approach the second floor, the waves that were floating in the ceiling, suddenly turned into something that sort of looked like a carpet. Being able to experience it was such a wonderful experience, and seeing different perspectives of an art piece. In conclusion, I learned how the perspective of an art piece influences the view of the audience, and how recycled items (looks like trash) could create such incredible art pieces.

U1 Table Tennis🏓 Reflection

During our table tennis unit, I learned a lot about the game, including different types of strikes, defensive strategies, and the importance of practice.

Forehand strike: A powerful topspin shot that requires proper body positioning.

Backhand strike: A challenging but essential strike for returning shots.

Serve: Crucial for starting points; I practiced various serves to keep opponents guessing.

I recognized the importance of consistency, focus, and sportsmanship throughout the unit. Practicing regularly improved my skills and understanding of the game.

This unit was a valuable experience that enhanced my striking and defensive abilities. I plan to continue practicing and developing my overall game. Table tennis is about strategy, skill, and enjoying this sport.

Art Sketchbook Cover

I started by piling the sketchbook cover with my passions, hobbies, interests, and simply everything that illustrates me. After the easy part, I had to develop a connection among the variety of elements on the cover. It was difficult until I recognized how I can demonstrate my obsession of accessories by adding sequins to every element on the cover, or at least is connected by a string of sequins. That was basically what I did for my sketchbook cover.

Probability Fair reflection

There is 1/3 of a chance to exceed to the level, and the higher the level you get, the bigger the prize you win.

There were some conflicts about money, prizes, and the layout of our game, however since we have people there is always a majority, and so it is more easier to get over with the conflict.

Something that went well was that a lot of people enjoyed our games, and decided to play it multiple times.

I would change the probability of winning because the person that came to our stand won the grand prize on their first try.

The theoretical probability of our game is 3/95 but in real life, 7 people won the grand prize and approximately 60 people came to our stand.
