Unit 1 Comic

What safety behaviour do you think are most important for you?

The most important safety for me is to be safe and not being chased after. As well to keep yourself safe like not doing something for something else and to keep your body image safe.

Who are your five trusted adult?

My five trusted adult is:

  • Mom
  • Dad
  • Grandma
  • Grandpa
  • My old teacher

How does Social Media and Tech impact teens the most in your opinion?

Social Media and Tech impact teens the most because teens get very easy addicted to Social Media and Tech.

What strategies can you use to help protect yourself in everyday life – online and in real life – list 3-5 strategies.

  • To not look at social media or post anything beyond 9:00 pm
  • To only post things that your family and good/ close friends can see
  • To not text someone you don’t know
  • Leave your device outside.

What would be the biggest takeaway (learning) you have?

Something that stood out for me was that blue light HARMS YOU A LOT, as well as that sleeping is VERY important and you should sleep early.

Dystopian Fiction The Giver

What did I do?

I learned about the Dystopian Fiction by writing academic paragraph related to the text.

What did I learn?

We also learn to build up our vocabulary, writing academic paragraphs, using transition words, and collaborative discussion.

What worked?

What worked was when I was doing my collaborative discussion because I worked very well with others as well as chatting with others about my discussion notes. As well as to write my note.

What did not work?

What didn’t work was to use magic school to help me to learn all of the vocab words. This is because when I was using magic school, I couldn’t really remeber.

Personal Relevance

I was listening very closely to others when they were talking. I think that this can help me in the future because I will be able to hear others.

Bake Sale Reflection!

What Did we do?

We participated in a math bake sale, where we had to sell desserts we made, and calculate the total money. Honestly, at first, we thought nobody would come to buy our chocolate lava cake, but then many people came. We made chocolate lava cake.

What did we learn?

We learned how to calculate rates and percents. In this unit, we got to learn about rates and how to calculate them. For our final project, we had to calculate the rates for one batch of cakes and sell it for a good price.

What worked?

What worked well was when we were working together to bake our finally lava cake. This is because when we helped each other when we didn’t know how to do something and help each other understand the process. Also, when we bake, we tried to discuss out a time that we both can bake at each others house.

What did not work?

What didn’t work was that when we bright-heartedly called to customers, some ignored us. Also, for the baking part, sometimes when I had time, my partner Bela didn’t. That made it extra-hard to let us bake together, so we had to think of another time and sometimes cancel some things for this project.

Personal relevance

This learning might help us in my future, this is because when we want to sell things in the future for money, we can calculate the correct ratio and percents. This will be helpful because when we use it, we won’t earn less then we were supposed to earn and we won’t earn more. We will be able to set the correct price.

This was when we were selling our chocolate lava cake. 🧁

Unit 2 – Ötzi Unit Reflection

What did I work on?

During this unit, we mainly worked on researching Ötzi. We mainly used different tools and different sites to research whether “Ötzi was murdered or not”. We had some wonders and inferences about why we should care about the past. After that, we also learned how to write a CER paragraph. We also learned about how to write and what is an open and closed question.

What did I learn?

During this research time, we learned about Ötzi, the well-preserved Iceman, as well as “Why should we care about the past”? We learned about the past and why we should care about it. We learned that Ötzi the Iceman was an old person that lived 5300 years ago.

What worked well?

What worked well was when I was researching the past of Otzi’s life and what happened in the past as well as the sketch note about him. I was able to do a good work about his death and the sketch note. I am proud of this because when I was doing the sketch note, I made it really colorful and eye catching. Also, when I was researching about Ötzi, I was able to find a lot of information about how he died.

What did not work?
What did not work was when I was presenting/ arguing that Otzi was being murdered because of the injuries and traumas on his head and between his thumb and forefinger. This was because I spoke with a very small voice and not as much practice. Also, when I was having the argument, I was not that prepared, and I don’t have an argument that is strong.

Personal Relevance

What could have been better was that I could have prepared more and run my speech more often. Also, researching more deeply and not having to rush through my work about Ötzi. I also could have improved speaking loudly and clearly just like the other groups.

Egg Car Challenge Science Reflection

What did I do?

We built a egg car using only three pieces of A3 paper, a straw, two pairs or wheels, and on metered tape. We were supposed to make a car that can hold the egg and that the eg cannot cracked.

What did I learn?

We learned about Newton’s first, second, and third law. wNewton’s law has acted upon the egg car challenge because Newton’s first law states that what stays in motion will stay in motion and what is in motion will stay in motion, unless and unbalanced force is acted upon on it. This is acted on the egg car challenge because when we were putting the car on the ramp, the car has to com down, and when its in motion, it will want to stay in motion unless an unbalanced force is acted on it, which is the concrete wall.

What worked?

Something that worked well was when my partner and I was working on the egg car. This is because when I was building the egg car, we both participating, and then we talked out what we wanted and then made out the egg car together.

What did not work?

Something that didn’t work was when we put our egg car on the ramp. What happened was when our car fell down first, and then our egg fell done can then hit the wall.

Personal Relevance:

Something that we can do better on your egg car was to plan it out first. This is because we kind of just built it out and then kind of wasted our material.

Design Tech

What did I do?

We did three things that was very interesting and the first thing we did was laser cutter, then we did 3D printing, at last, we did robotic.

  • During our first unit, we did laser cutting, we choose something to laser cut and then give it to our client. We can make keychains, fridge magnets, earrings, coaster. We drew some pictures for our projects and then summited to the teacher. This is what we drew:

During our next unit, we did 3D printing, we choose a theme and tried to make different chess piece. The theme that we choose was an animal theme, we each chose different animals and made it into a chess piece. We drew some pictures for our projects and then summited to the teacher. This is what we drew:

In our next unit, we did robotic, we build it and then coded it. It was very fun when we raced and then tried to fight at the end when all of our weapons were built properly.

Balloon Car Science Reflection

What did I do?

The balloon car was built using wheels, paper, one balloons, and a paper plate. Our goal was to build a balloon car and make it go as far and as fast as possible. We used it to learn about Newton’s first, second, and third law.

What did I learn?

I learned about Newton’s first, second, and third law. Newton’s first law says that whatever stays at rest will stay at rest, and what ever is in motion tends to stay in motion unless an unbalanced force acts on it. We see this law in action with the Balloon car when we release the the balloon car and let it drive. Newton’s second law says that a greater the mass is, the more force needed to move it. We see this action in motion when we add washers into the balloon car. Newton’s third law says the every action has an equal, opposite reaction. We see this action in motion when the air goes out through one side and the car goes out the other way and every action has another equal reaction.

What worked?

Something worked well was collaborating with my partner and others because we were able to talk what each other wanted and made a decision that we all agreed on and a little bit both ideas. We had to combine both of our ideas into one piece. This is because we can both get what we wanted and not get upset with each other and work properly.

What did not work?

It was struggling when me and my partner’s balloon car released the air too slow and it goes very slowly. We solved this problem by trying to make the straw bigger so the air would be able to run out faster. It was kind of hard, because we had to cut the bottom straw so we can make the top straw big, but we still manage to do it with TEAMWORK!

Personal relevance

The balloon car example was like driving in the real world, this is because when we drive, the gas goes through out one way ( through the back) and the car goes forward. I see Newton’s first law in real life when I ride the car. It is also very important to know all of theses law, because sometimes when you are riding a car, it is important to know why you have to put on your seat belt and when someone else doesn’t you can explain to them.

Creative Writing Reflection

What are we doing?

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning?

Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers)

Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits)

Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)

Setting:

  • In a magical cave
  • In Aladdin’s house
  • In a magical cave

What’s Working:

What worked was when I was writing my story, I had a lot of ideas for my story and I was able to write pretty detailed and very much about my settings.

Areas for Growth:

ON of the things I can work on is to jot my ideas down and my typing skills, this is because all of the brilliant ideas that it have, I couldn’t finish typing all of my ideas.

Personal Relevance:

Creative writing can help me because it can help me have better imagination skills and creativity and my future writing skills.

Critical Thinking Activities In Science

What did I do?

I used my critical thinking skills to complete challenges with Indi robot cars and build build rollercoasters with Gravitrax.

What did I learn?

I learned about how be graded for Critical Thinking. Critical thinking is my ability to solve problems and make the right decision.

What worked?

I thought critically when I problem solved how to make a spiral out of the Gravitrax and tried to not make the the marble fall from the track to the ground/ table. What also worked was when I was working with my partner in the Gravitrax station and we were able to work together and get something moving. We also made a big drop as well as a spiral on the track. I would be great if it was a real roller coaster🎢.

What did not worked?

What didn’t work was when I was in the Indi robot cars station and we were I guess too exited to play with the robot and wasn’t really on task. We got things done, but then we also played A LOT with the Indi robot.

Personal Relevance

Todays learning was very fun and used my critical thinking skills during the stations. This is because when we were all trying to figure out how to use the Indi Robot and how to make a spiral in the Gravitrax station, we all tried to use our critical thinking skills. I also suggested that we should use some drops for the Gravitrax station so that the marbles can start the spiral routine when it drops down.

This is the picture of the Gravitrax staion.
