PE Badminton Unit Reflection

During this badminton unit in PE, we practiced serving, varying our placement, controlling our force, and timing of return to prevent anticipation from opponent (which is what we were grade on, apart from active learner). We did this by constantly practicing playing in doubles (in groups of 3, except we would rotate between group members every 5 points due to there being less courts available compared to the amount of people we have in the two classes). Badminton wasn’t an easy sport, as it’s the fastest racket sport, according to our teachers, but me and my friends maintained sportsmanship, making the entire unit and learning processes very fun.

Math Unit 2 COL Reflection

Unit 2 Topic A and B Test Reflection (Functions & Statistics)

Evidence of My Best Thinking:
I chose Question 1 as evidence of my best thinking because I correctly identified the maximum, minimum, and intervals of increase in a piecewise function.
I chose Question 4 as evidence of my best thinking because I was effectively able to calculate certain variables based on the given line of best fit and apply that to real world situations. However, sometimes I would need to check my work more in these circumstances.

      Skills Reflection:
Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at analyzing scatter plots and piecewise functions. One skill from this unit that I still need to work on is checking my work more when applying my knowledge into real-world situations. The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was showing my understanding in the difference between correlation and causation. One strategy that helped me on this test was remembering to use all elements in DOTS when describing an association in context.

              Goal Reflection & End-of-Semester Check-In

Looking Back at My Last Goal:
Last unit, my goal was to challenge myself more by completing extension options in assessments or projects, and I worked towards this goal a lot. One thing that helped me make progress toward this goal was completing more challenging homework and choice board options. One thing that got in the way of this goal was perhaps the fact that I didn’t check my work that often before submitting my work.

              End-of-Semester Self Reflection:
Last semester, 3 strengths I’ve shown are analyzing scatter plots and piecewise functions in context, challenging myself to complete extension options, and organizing my time well to complete all homework assignments. 3 areas I still want to improve on are checking my work before submitting, applying the concepts I learned in class to real-world situations, and taking more organized notes in class.

              New Academic Goal Moving Forward:
In the next unit I’d like to check my work more before submitting, especially when analyzing real-world situations.
One thing that might get in the way of this goal is if I rush through the problems and left no time to check my work. If I get stuck or need help, I would ask my friends, classmates, or my teacher for some advice.

Math Designing a Story Problem Reflection

              1. Describe your story and what real-life situation it modeled?
The story we created was about the money in a credit card that belongs to a girl named Audrey. She had a budget of 20 thousand dollars in a credit card just for recording expenses for her bakery. She spent 12 thousand dollars on the construction of her bakery, and 2 thousand dollars buying ingredients (that never expire) for bread and cake. Afterwards, her bakery had loads of customers every day and she earned 16 thousand dollars the first month after the opening of the bakery. She then decided to close the bakery for 10 days to spend time with her family, only to find out that she had ghosted her friend Miranda online. Therefore, Miranda stole Audrey’s credit card and spent all the remaining money on iPads.

              2. What part of your project are you most proud of? Why?
I am most proud of calculating the domain, range, as well as the x and y intercepts. These were concepts we have practiced multiple times in class before, so we already had a solid understanding of them. Therefore, we were able to effectively calculate them when we created our own graph or piecewise function.

              3. What was the hardest part of creating your piecewise function?
The hardest part was arguably calculating the equations of the intervals of increase and decrease as well as the constant intervals. These were aspects we didn’t think about when creating our story, which made them a bit more complicated than we expected.

              4. If you could revise one part of this project, what would you improve and how?
If I could revise this project, I’d probably add more intervals of both increase and decrease (perhaps also constant intervals), in order to challenge ourselves more with the calculations. This would make that part of the project more difficult, but it would ensure we have a solid understanding of the concepts.

              5. What did this project help you understand better about piecewise functions?
Through this project, I understood that graphs and piecewise functions can be used in real life. This project ensured we had a solid understanding of the math concepts we learned in class, and it also taught us how to apply that knowledge to real life situations, which arguably made the learning experiences more fun as well.

              Art Mixed Media Self-Portrait Project

What key message do you want your audience to understand about you as they view your artwork? How did you communicate this message?
Through the creation of this artwork, I’d like the audience to understand that I am a person who values uniqueness (represented by stars and other solar elements), hard work, and determination (both represented by the lotus, the book, and the thought bubble). I enjoy reading and anything related to music (represented by the book as well as the music notes, bunny, and hearts respectively). The main color in my artwork, purple, (also my favorite color of all time) represents ambition, confidence, wisdom, and creativity. I also communicated this by having the cut-out parts interact with my self-portrait, so that these elements would feel like they are part of me.

During the creation of your artwork, how did you take risks and experiment in order to effectively express your intended message?
During the process of creating my artwork, I challenged myself choosing an image of my face and my hand to turn into a self-portrait. I knew that hands would be difficult to replicate, but I still decided to include it, as I believe this hand gesture represents me and my personality well. I also took a risk by letting the different cut-out elements in my artwork interact with each other, such as the music note and the star on the left, as well as the star, thought bubble, book, and my self-portrait on the right. It was somewhat challenging since I had to plan out the exact layouts beforehand, but it was definitely worth it, as I felt like these interactions and overlapping techniques would impart the fact that all the elements are part of me instead of simply floating around me.

              PE Outdoor Invasion Games Reflection

In the 3rd unit of PE this school year, we participated in outdoor invasion games (mainly soccer) that involved skills like transitioning, dribbling, effective collaborating, etc. During the first class, we only practiced dribbling and throwing & passing soccer balls. This built a strong foundation for actually playing soccer in the following classes. I ended up getting all 3s for this unit, after I improved my transitioning, dribbling, and effective collaborating skills.

              PE Swimming Reflection

In the swimming unit of PE class, we reviewed our swimming skills and learned how to swim without goggles and with out heads up, in order to participate in water polo games. In the beginning, we were struggling a bit with swimming with our heads up, but we persevered through the process and ended up having fun in the water polo games. We were able to practice our effective collaborating skills when playing water polo as well. By the end of the unit, we were all really confident with these skills, and I got a 3 for both swimming skills & water safety as well as transitions from offense to defense and vice versa.

              French Comprehension Orale Unit 1

During unit 1 of French class, we learned lots of vocabulary words from the book we were reading, “La Guerre des Jumeaux”. Using that vocabulary, our teacher created a listening comprehension in order for use to showcase our skills and understanding in this unit.

I did decently well on this assessment, and got the highest score possible. However, I did make a mistake on question 8 of listening 1. The question had asked for the time that social studies class finishes at, and I wrote down the time starts and ends at. Technically my answer still does include the correct answer for this question, but it wasn’t fully correct, even though I still got full credit for that.

The feedback I received from my teacher was:

Comment:22/22 Perfect understanding ! Bravo. You have a great ability to catch key words in a oral dialogue.

I agree with this, as one of my key strategies to doing listening comprehensions is catching key words in the dialogues, even if sometimes they may be there to trick us.

PTC comment: I learned that my French teacher strongly encourages me to take the A2 exam in November, maybe even B1 next year.

French Reflection: La Guerre des Jumeaux

For our first unit in French class, we had to read a short novel about a pair of twins, Charlie and Lili, who are constantly fighting. The story was at a suitable level for most students in our class, containing certain vocabulary words we were unfamiliar with while still ensuring that we would be able to understand it.

We had to practice the vocabulary from the story using quizlet. Usually, I memorize the vocabulary by thinking of what happened in the story that corresponds to the word, and then I’d look over the vocabulary words over and over again until I’m really familiar with it.

We also had to retell the story using illustration pictures in the book. I challenged myself to use past tense (passé composé) to retell the story. I prepared for it by brainstorming what I would say for the oral. However, most of what I actually said during the oral was either improvised or planned that day, which was a bit challenging but I still managed paraphrase the story decently.

              My oral:

The feedback I got from my French teacher:

Comment: It’s an excellent summary of the book. You were able to reuse vocabulary in context. You also demonstrated a good managed of the past tense . You used several words to organize your speech You can be proud of you.

Personally, I believe I did decently well when it comes to using passé composé when summarizing the story and reusing the vocabulary from the story. This is what I am most proud of. I believe I can improve on using different types of past tense, specifically l’imparfait.

PTC comment: I learned that my French teacher strongly encourages me to take the A2 exam in November, maybe even B1 next year.

Science Semester 1 Active Learner Reflection

My current goal is to achieve higher scores for 3-for-3s, to make sure I understand the concepts discussed in class very well. Sometimes I struggle with these things, which negatively impact my performance in class, as well as my grades and report card. In order to accomplish this goal, I will make sure to complete all assignments, check the criterias, and keep track of upcoming 3-for-3s. I will also be sure to ask my teacher about aspects I don’t understand that well in class.

Thus far, I have made visible progress on my 3-for-3s. I received a 2 in the second most recent one, and in the most recent one I was confident in my skills and understanding, and I got a 3. I did this by reviewing class concepts with quizlet and schoology and always completing class assignments on time. I will make sure to check in with my teacher if any confusions appear when it comes to my understanding about the concepts discussed in class.

In science class, I am currently most proud of my collaboration skills with different people, as we get assigned our teams and seats for most if not all collaboration projects in science class. The biggest challenge for me would be understanding certain concepts and reviewing them for 3-for-3s, which is also my goal in science class (which I have also been working towards). I have demonstrated my active learner skills by reaching out for help or feedback when necessary. This also contributes towards my goal of asking my teacher about confusions I have about concepts studied in class. This is to ensure my understanding, which would be showcased in 3-for-3s. If I have made enough progress on this goal for this semester, my goal for the next semester would probably be to challenge myself more in certain projects or criterias.

PTC comment: I learned that my teacher believes that my presence in the classroom environment makes it a better environment.
