Organization: I organize my time and plan ahead to make sure that I allow enough time to get everything done.
Stress resilience: I am satisfied with the way I handle stress, handling it in healthy ways, rather than engaging in self-destructive habits to cope.
Healthy relationships: I feel good about the amount of trust, respect, and honesty that exists in all of my relationships, including dating relationships, if applicable.
Rest and Play: I am satisfied with the amount of time I spend with the important people in my life.
Handling Emotions: People who know me with say I handle emotions in a healthy way.
Spirituality: I have a clear sense of meeting her purpose in my life.
School and Work: I am satisfied with that way I pay attention, participate, and prepare for homework for my classes, extracurriculars, volunteer work, or job.
Care for the Body: I am satisfied with amount of exercise I get on a regular basis.
For my second woop goal, it was targeted to resolve conflict in a productive way with my family and friends. It was to try to talk through a conflict so that it doesn’t escalate.
One example that I worked through a situation like this and that I changed my reaction was when I had a argument with my friend. This time, I didn’t have my normal reaction but instead, I was more calm, I remembered my goal, which is to resolve the problem, not causing further miscommunications which stops the root problem from being resolved. Normally, my emotions were the obstacle and the raised voices when me and another friend both get angry, we raised our voices and the whole thing get fired up.
My plan was to control my amygdala, be calm and practice my mindfulness. I chose this because I wanted to work on controlling my emotions and it has a impact in my future life whether in relationships with my friends/family but also with classmates, colleagues and also the different people in the society.
Upon being able to calm yourself, you also need to develop social skills, being able identify a suitable time and things to say things and resolve the problem. These are both crucial in resolving a problem.
This is also another alternative for a healthy relationship to be resolved. Looking at something in someone else’s view. This creates understanding and deepens the bond between two individuals.
In this unit, I learnt about the technology values, how it affects our brain, how our brain reacts with instant gratifications and the reward center. I also learnt about the psychology behind how and why our brain behaves the way it does, how social media affects our mental health and the different mental health conditions.
Tech and brain
This is an artifact for the tech and brain, how technology affects us and how our brain reacts. I used to think that our distractions are just simple because we don’t want to do something and think that other things are more interesting but now I think it is more complex, how our brain is affected, notifications and triggers. I also learnt about the feeling of desire and how technology effects out thoughts here.
Behavioral psychology
Here are two experiments we learnt related to brain psychology and how our brain behaves as well as how it affects our daily life decisions.
The first picture represents something we learnt about a psychology experiment which is the instant gratification monkey. It is a test on monkeys to find the impulse of individuals to seek out pleasure and satisfaction without any thought for the consequences. I also experimented on the temptation and tendency when an individual is craving for something enjoyable. I used to not really get the experiment and how the results impact each individual but now I think that it does impact an individual/monkey greatly by the amount of future benefits the monkey gets without having the urge to get that instant gratification.
The second picture represents the marshmallow experiment. I used to think that it was just about the ability to control yourself but after looking deeper into the experiment and other aspects, now I think it is also that from these experiments and examples, we can measure how well (in this example) the children can delay their immediate gratification to receive greater rewards in the future. This experiment also predicts how successful a child can be in the future given the qualities they have developed since young.
These two examples teach us about behavioral psychology and how it affects our brain, the way we process information and think.
Body Image and Social media
In this unit, we also learnt about the information on social media, how to correctly analyze them and how credible they are.
In this task, I looked at an article about the positives and negatives of the “fit-influencers” and how they do more harm than good. I analyzed this article using the 4C’s template provided. I used to think that the fit-influencers were pretty credible since they have many followers, they show real and visible changes but now I think these fit-influencers, even if they work or seem “healthy” and “effective”, they might have negative effects on us for example on the over influence of the so called “perfect body” and creating misunderstandings of what a “fit body” looks like.
We then researched about different mental illnesses using credible sources provided by our teacher. I used to think that searching on google gives me mostly credible sources but now I think using the recognized credible sources are better especially for mental health researches since there are many common misconceptions to different symptoms, causes and treatments. These credible sources are mostly sources that conducted specific and professional research on specific issues and most likely will not include the misconceptions that provide false informations to the readers.
I also did a presentation with my classmates on bipolar disorder. We researched many different aspects of it and used the credible sources to conduct the research. One thing that was interesting is the common misconceptions. For me, I used to think that bipolar disorder is just mood swings and people who are extreme and in general, mental illnesses are just because these people have certain actions. Now I learnt that there are many different factors and the mental health issues both in terms of the diagnosis, treatments and effects can differ a lot based on the time, frequency, severity and each individuals’ experiences.
The purpose of my conference is to explain why I are here and what I want to share with my parents about my learning journey.
I’d like to share:
What I’ve done and what I still want to achieve
Some areas of growth, struggles, and some of my work
My goals and how I plan to achieve them
Vision board
Some of the things included on my vision board are:
Control
Interests
Love
More detailed:
music/instruments
sports
food
art/oil painting, etc.
baking
animals
travelling
These are important because: They are the things that represent me.
My Goals are:
Read news and books for at least 30 minutes everyday on weekdays
Do not procrastinate in homework and tasks
Put effort into everything I do
Here is evidence of how I was able to start to make progress towards my goals.
Transdisciplinary Transfer Goal (TTG)
The TTG I chose to reflect upon throughout the year is active learner:
One way I showed that learning is through my science:
I want to be better at previewing and reviewing my work, notes and the information I learnt. Also, I want to have no procrastination making the goals easier to achieve. I sometimes struggle with time management, making it harder to achieve the high-quality work I could have done. As well as being more familiar with the new information learnt and better prep for tests. I will preview and review to make sure I fully understand what is taught.
One way I showed that TTG is through my plans:
Social Studies
I will now share my progress in Social Studies:
In social studies, we navigated through 4 units, Inquiry into interest, Perspective on issues, WWI, Migration. The unit we are currently doing is Shark tank.
An artifact I did was inquiry into interest. It is a poster on a inquiry question I had.
This artifact is the product from the first unit which is inquiry into interest. There were 3 parts, research, product, OneNote. I selected this artifact because it represents the process of me learning how to research, create a product and present it using a poster, infographics and captions. This shows my progress in developing skills to keep notes and use them in my final project, combine different skills and provide evidence and reasoning to support my research. This also was a chance to research more deeply into topics that I am interested in.
Artifact 2:
This artifact is the research on the unit perspectives on issues. It was when we chose a topic to debate about as a group of 4 and split into two groups. It was a rare chance for me to have the chance to use the combination of interest in a inquiry project. This project also helped me develop my skills of researching, making claims and using relevant evidence to support my claims. As well as providing reasoning accordingly.
Language arts
I will now share my progress in language arts.
Artifact 1: Reading writing passport
This artifact is my reading writing passport. It is something that reflects my learning for the first semester because I developed the skill of being able to be used to writing, reflecting and doing reading writing passports on top of reading my book. The reading journal helped me develop the habit of actually thinking about what I read and having the chance to write some of my thoughts down. This also helps deepen my learning and actually make my brain think about what is happening in the book. Another thing that this reading writing passport did was help me improve my time management skills. I think this is a crucial skill because in the passports, in order to get an exceeding, apart from getting all the academic work done, we still have to schedule meetings with Mr. Fisher to discuss what we learnt and check everything off. We also need to make shares and split all the things into 5 different meetings to check. This helps us to not only develop the reading skills, writing skills and reflecting skills but also time management skills.
My notebook is a rather organized tool that helps me review and go back to what we learnt. This helps me quickly find what I need to review for my different tests and quickly find the information needed for a specific area.
I think I improved in terms of completing assignments and reflecting on learning. I try to be ahead of the work we are doing incase of special events and being focused and on task. I also would complete my homework as soon as possible and I do the homework on the day it got assigned in case of times
This shows how my check for understanding quiz grades has improved throughout time. This also shows how I understand the concepts more throughout time such as improving my CER writing skills, my idea of weathers, etc. I use data in my evidence, I do not use wrong words in different sections of the CER.
Evidence of growth in science skills:
This shows how I grew in terms of learning in being able to pick some key concepts that I wasn’t originally familiar with and being able to search it, learn more about it and graph it myself. This shows my growth in the skills in terms of both understanding and showing it/applying it.
French SLC
Artifact 1:
This is a comprehension quiz. We did this in class and listened to a audio to answer questions accordingly. This showed growth over the course of the school year because I improved in terms of reading comprehension and also answering the questions in French and forming a suitable answer.
This helped me improve because I wasn’t able to listen to comprehensions originally that we fast and now I am able to understand it faster, more easily and more efficiently.
I also have a much better idea of how we should do the reading comprehensions and how to listen and write. First time listening and writing as much as I can and the second time filling in what I don’t have.
This is a letter we wrote of World War I. It shows how we learnt the format of writing letters, corporate the information of the World War I poilu as well as being able to write in a perspective of someone else. This showed the growth of matching ideas and communicating with my partner and matching/describing the harsh conditions.
We used special and formal letter words such as “Ma Chere”, Ton bien aime, even if it is written to my “wife” we are required to use formal words. We also used dates in the form which day/day/month/year.
Writing in this form, it allows us to know more about the background of ww1 and connect them with the circumstances.
Math
Artifact 1: Math statistics unit storyboard
I chose this because I think this is both a good representation of my knowledge on statistics and showing my active learner.
My first artifact is the ensemble unit. We played the piece spring by Vivaldi from the four seasons. It was a pretty hard but we learnt how to cooperate together, especially with not all the ideal instruments we wanted in our group.
Artifact 2: Concert
We learnt how to perform different music styles and mix together with other players that are not normally in our class.
Health
Unit 1: Psychology of Stress
This unit I learnt about the pre-frontal cortex, the amygdala, the FFF’s and many stress resilience strategies. Additionally, we also learnt about the mood meter, negativity biases and how our amygdala triggers.
Pre-frontal cortex controls the important actions your brain does such as planning, decision making and memory. It also controls certain aspects of what you do on a daily basis.
Amygdala
The amygdala is a small almond shaped structure in our brain. It is a detector for our body that prevents us in danger. This is extremely important when it comes to survival. We learnt that although it is important for the amygdala to send signals, it sometimes gets wrongly triggered when it comes to our daily life and we learnt about how to deal with it.
FFF
The FFF are the fight, freeze and flight modes. They are the instinctive responses that we have toward things that happen in our daily life when certain types of hormones are released. They are also natural body reactions towards stressful, frightening or dangerous events.
Mood meter
We learnt how a mood meter can match our moods and how to use it. Additionally, we decided on the scale what a situation looks like and which mood matches it the most.
Negativity bias
We learnt how negativity bias means when you think about all the negative things that happen to you in your life and you tend to lean towards those things that are negative, a natural habit, a instinct.
PE
Artifact 1: Passing, setting and spiking
Artifact 2: grades
This demonstrates how I work towards the different sports with ones I am familiar with and comparatively stronger and ones that I don’t play but still work on and try at. I learnt how to correctly do soccer/football dribbles and accurately shoot in the footballs.
Passion project: Food stand 🍱🧋
The passion project I choose to do was creating a food stand with 2 other friends.
We are making a variety of foods from different cultures to create the cultural exchange.
The app I chose to use is called School assistant.
Functionality:
This is an app that helps monitor our to-do’s and keeps track of what we have to do with deadlines and necessary links. It is pretty easy to use since the instructions and buttons are all clear and you can add details if needed to your plans.
Some complicated parts of this app is how to set up everything at first which takes a long time as well as the class system does not really work since I have to link everything with my google account calendar in order for it to work.
The basic features are to-do’s and the deadline and the more complicated and advanced features are when you have a full on schedule view, how you can go directly to the website page your homework is on and don’t have to have messy tabs all opened on google. You also have a lot of choices on what you set based on your preferences such as color mode, font, deadline, due date, how the app reminds you.
The app supports the WOOP goal because it helps me fulfill the parts wish, outcome, obstacle and plan.
My wish is to not procrastinate that much and actually finish my work on time. The outcome is that I finish and stayed focus.
Some obstacles are that there are many distractions such as notifications, things that make me off task and it is hard for me to get back on track.
Plan – My plan was to keep me away from phones and distractions as much as I can and try to have something that keep me on task.
This app works since it is downloaded on my computer so I comparatively, there are less distractions as well as it also has a option for notifications which can remind me and these notifications have the same triggering effect as other social media notifications such as on insta and wechat, etc.
This app helps me develop healthy habits because I will try to finish everything on the list and having big read DUE EARLIER or DEADLINE IS TODAY makes me feel a kind of pressure (which is the healthy kind) that pushes me to finish my task as soon as possible.
This app can improve my brain and body health because from not procrastinating I can be more efficient which makes my sleep time longer and my brain healthier with less stress later on.
DESIGN
This app uses humane designs like notifications, design options that makes it personalized and easy to use. This shows the addictive thing that makes us used to how easy it is to press things after getting our work done and always going there to find our work. It makes us rely on this app and more likely to look at the deadlines there.
A long-term impact would be being very used to this app and using it on a daily basis maybe even before the website and checking everything on there first.
My to-do’s
The school work is basically all my to do’s along with the set deadlines for each task. The completed schoolwork are ones that I have finished and I pressed to finished button. It is there for me to check my progress and see how many things I have finished.
Here are my finished works/recently done.
This shows the different changes I can make to this app based on my own preferences. This shows how each of my goals are set, I set the time, the title and I also put the corresponding links that bring me directly to the homework page. It also shows me the time until its due so I can better prioritize each assignment.

Standard: I can develop a model of the Earth-Sun-Moon System to describe seasons, moon phases, and eclipses.
Our model’s guiding question is: Why do we need special eyewear to observe a solar eclipse but not a lunar eclipse?
We need special glasses to observe a solar eclipse and not a lunar because the sun is very bright and the solar energy is massive, if we look directly at it, it could damage our eyes, the special glasses can prevent out eyes from getting hurt. On the other hand, we don’t need special glasses to observe a lunar eclipse because the moon doesn’t have a bright light and there are shadows. During the solar eclipse the umbra that has shadow reflecting to earth is really small but during a lunar eclipse the umbra and penumbra reflects and covers the` whole earth. The very little light of the moon also doesn’t harm our eyes. In addition, the solar eclipse is during daytime and the lunar eclipse is during night time.
Standard: I can develop a model that shows how adding or removing thermal energy affects particle motion,
One of our most important ingredient is ice. Before the making it, the ice is solid. After, we added thermal energy, that means the kinetic energy is increasing. From that, we also know that the temperature of the ice cube increases and the particles inside moves faster. The particles spread out and the ice starts to melt. Finally, the ice turns into liquid.
African are endangered because people took their guano nests and they don’t have a place to keep their eggs and themselves cool. We are building nests to help protect them and increase their population. We tested out which materials are the best to keep the penguins cool and used the materials. Below are some photos of our penguin nest’s design:
We need to build nest because heat always moves from hot to cold and in Africa it is very hot, the penguin’s guano got stolen by humans, they need a new protection, so we build the penguin nests! The nests are to keep the penguins cool, we did 2 investigations to test out which material better and how is it going to work for the penguins. In my nest, I used foam, tissue paper, aluminum foil, wooden sticks and cotton at a cost of 75. We made this cost so that a lot of penguins can afford to buy it so more penguins can get protection. By that, we can the save the endangered animal – Jackass penguins.
