Mental Health and Tech Unit Review

I used to view conditions like bipolar disorder solely through the lens of depression, but I now recognize that there are manny different types of bipolar and we shouldn’t stigmatize the disease. They encompass a wide range of experiences, from significant mood swings and anxiety to episodes of high energy or mania. This journey has opened my eyes to the unique nature of each individual’s mental health challenges, emphasizing that they cannot be easily pigeonholed.

One key area of learning for me was the different manifestations of bipolar disorder, include Bipolar I, Bipolar II, and Cyclothymic Disorder, each with its own specific patterns of mood episodes. Understanding different diseases and making sure that all the different types known is crucial to reduce stigma and to increase knowledge on different topics.

To break down these barriers, it’s important to foster empathy and understanding, especially in our online interactions. By actively listening to the stories of those who share their experiences online, we can cultivate a compassionate community that respects and validates the struggles of others. This approach not only helps reduce stigma but also encourages those suffering from mental health conditions to speak up and seek the assistance they need.

I’ve also learned the importance of creating safe spaces for open conversation. Mental health issues often remain hidden, and by promoting an atmosphere where individuals feel comfortable expressing their feelings, we can make a significant difference. Mental illnesses need to be recognized as real and complex conditions, deserving of the same care and attention as physical health issues.

We also need to be cautious about how social media or technology may affect us, it may shape or body image since many things on social media may be fake which would dramatically shift the idea of whether or not our bodies are healthy by feeding us with fake information that could not only be useless, but harmful too since we believe that we aren’t being healthy, we might feel that too and its something that is incorrect.

Lastly, my understanding of mental health highlights the vital role we each play in reducing stigma. Through empathy and a commitment to understanding, we can foster supportive environments that empower individuals facing various mental health challenges and encourage conversations that break the silence surrounding these issues.

Encore class: Chinese

This is a really simple example of one of my Chinese homework where we have to create sentences from specific words and we have to make sure the sentences make sense and that we can recognize most of the words. I know that in this worksheet I’m able to write sentences but sometimes I have to go online and search about how to write most words which is something I can improve on.

This is my more improved version that shows my writing, my writing has changed as I wrote a paragraph about a famous NBA player known as Kobe Bryant, I showcase my ability to write in chinese for paragraphs and how to write without losing ideas, and to keep the readers interested, I learn how to make the paragraph interesting and has lots of info.

Encore Class: Health

This is a small though model that shows that I can complete assignments over class, but it also shows that I make my assignments simple. This assignment talks about how your thought can affect your actions and eventually they have impacts. I could have explained a bit more or typed more so there would be lots of improvements to be made.

This presentation proves that I have improved on my abilities to complete assignments along with typing more, I also learns new strategies to calm myself with coping strategies such as my presentation with Jio and Jared which I talked about how to meditate with different coping strategies, both positive and negative.

Health App review

REMEMBER THE MILK REVIEW

Functionality:

The app functions similar to any check list, you can type in an important task and choose between the dates where you have to turn your tasks in, for example, if I had a science project, I could make it a task, when I complete it I press a check mark and then the task would be complete.
The app is extremely easy to use as you can change between tasks or add more, there’s not many complications and would only take about 10 minutes to fully understand the app. The only negative thing about the functionality is that you can’t make the dates specific and can only choose the options today, tomorrow, or within this week.

Usefulness:

This app is extremely useful as it can support my wellness goal of staying organize by reminding me to organize my backpack or organize my room after school. It helps develop my healthy habits because when I want a reward and I’m scrolling through my phone after school, I would get a reminder to say that I should first organize and sort out myself so that I’m more prepared for tomorrow. It can help not only my mental health but also my physical health as I can be more organized and have more time to go outside due to not being that much of a mess.

Design:

This app’s design is very simple and easy to understand, theres only 2 main colors being blue and black, the colors are bland and is not meant to be addictive, this add could make the users life more organized or easier. The long-term impact is that overall, the user could be more organized and have more tasks completed. The design is meant to make the user not get addicted to the app so they would spend more time completing the task instead of doing something else.

Part 2: SCREENSHOTS OF USE

Over the last 7 days, I’ve took screenshots on how I used my app to complete various tasks.

The first few pictures are me first understanding the map such as adding task and learning how to complete them by clicking on the app and tapping a check mark to make sure that the task is complete, I learned that you can add a task by clicking the red button and you can type a post, you can also complete the post by opening the task and click a check button to complete it. You can also set a date to when the task is due to make sure its completed.

These are most of my tasks that I had and I wanted to do to keep organized

Math: Artifact 2

This artifact may be something smaller and something that we didn’t focus a lot on in class but it’s still important due to showing my dedication and my focus during class even if the topic may be boring, this maze from finding slope was important to me as it shows my behavior in class to be focused and not drifting away from class topics.

Psychology of Stress

A lot of things can make someone stress and there are many different ways to deal with stress, the stress is caused by the pre-frontal cortex which is the executive function with mature, intelligent thinking. This is the intelligent part of the brain compared to the amygdala which activates your FFF response. The amygdala reacts to fear. The hippocampus compares new learning to past learning which cause emotions like stress or frustration. Stress triggers your prefrontal cortex to be weaker as shown in lesson 3 page 13. There are also mindfulness activities to decrease your stress and build stress resilience such journaling or yoga. Mindful activities are extremely helpful for decreasing stress by reducing your amygdala’s activities.

Social Studies: Artifical 2

I’m pretty proud of this lab report since we worked on this for a rather long time, so I’m proud of my ability to track data and compare it to other pieces of data such as the class data. I can make a hypothesis and identify different variables and learning about how to do this project. I also learned to make graphs which could be useful in high school.

Language Arts: Artifact 2

This artifact is something I did more recently and shows my growth to analyze stories or text. At the first semester I was only able to analyze on short story but I improved and wrote on essay on three that focuses on the moral conflict of testing empathy and trust between friends. I improved more on analyzing and learning how to write an essay with in text citations more.

Language Arts: Artifact 1

This artifact is something I did at the very start of the first semester where we wrote about a CER(claim, evidence reasoning) on the story, Thank You Mam by Langston Hughes. I was able to analyze the story pretty well but it was only a short story and I think I could do better by comparing to other stories and make CER’s or organize my paragraphs more. I also need to not repeat ideas and to make my CER flow better by rephrasing a bit.
