Debate Opening

This piece of artifact is my opening speech for Shelley and my debate, on the question of should drug patents be banned. During the actual debate, our team and our opponents was having a quarrel instead of having a formal debate, especially during crossfire. However, a piece of our team’s evidence was was more recent that our opponents’, therefore winning the debate.

Game of Issues Prep

The Game of Issues was a conversation between 4 team members on an issue using the information and evidence we gathered through research. During the conversation, active participation in the group discussion and effective group work was demonstrated. The graphic organizer in preparation of the discussion was also completed with details.

SLC – Orchestra

In Orchestra, we focused on advanced technical proficiency on our chosen instrument, music literacy, performance practices, musical analysis, and evaluating music and music performance. In the winter concert, we performed Programmatic music – music can be used to tell our own story as an ensemble using playing techniques and musical elements. We have also created a chamber music performance with our peers through multiple cohesive rehearsals with separate parts on our instruments.

I am very excited for the rest of the school year in Chinese along with Ms Xu and my peers, and currently is awaiting for another new challenge in High School!

TEEN MENTAL HEALTH MATTERSSSS

Media could influence teen mental heath negatively due to the content manifested online may show pessimistic content. Media posts related to the bloggers posting of their “fortunate life” may lead to low self esteem and fear of missing out. Other posts such as “how to lose weight in a short limited of time” can lead to illness, lack of healthy eating, and possibly even eating disorders. Mental health stigma exists because of possible misunderstanding, such as the misunderstanding of Bipolar Disorder as in regular mood swings. We can reduce stigma by holding education campaigns or open conversations regarding the mental health disorders.

In this unit, I have developed deep understanding of the Bipolar Disorder, and surface understanding of other mental health disorders such as PTSD, eating disorder, and depression. I have also came to a conclusion that mental health is just as important as physical health, because both will lack concentration and the eager to learn and engage in activities if not put into rest. It is important for teenagers to understand them not just to reduce stigma but also to promote empathy, support healthy discussions, and to prepare for challenges regarding the teens’ mental health.

Health Tech and EQ Reflectionnnnnnn

Research reveals troubling effects of social media on teenagers’ mental health, with rising anxiety and depression noted since the early 2010s, particularly among girls. This suggests that cell phones may negatively impact teens’ social and emotional well-being. An article highlights a superintendent’s observation that students often focus on their phones instead of interacting with peers. The implementation of a no-phone policy aims to improve behavior, mental health, and focus by reducing distractions during school hours, indicating that limiting phone use can benefit students’ emotional health. Additionally, an interview with a high school student showed that while she prioritizes completing tasks, she prefers staying home on her phone during days off. A negative TikTok video about depression she encountered during lunch affected her mood for the rest of the school day, further illustrating the impact of social media on emotional well-being.

I think that I would agree on how using cell phones may be a distraction in the classroom. However, I have control myself and information on the internet won’t affect my mood or mental well being. My friends and I always speak face-to-face and would prefer doing that rather than texting online. I wouldn’t sympathize to the idea of aban for cell phones in the classroom.

Some strategies may be to refrain from taking out my cell phone if it isn’t necessary to decrease quality of emotional health and relationships. However as mentioned before, I already have control with my phone usage, not just in the classroom.

Design Tech – Board Game Plan

Design Tech is on a project where we are being Ethical Global Citizens and making a board game from recycled products and 3D printing. The point of this project and this game is teaching kids to make ethical choices. This is an individual project and this is the plan that I made last class.
